The Hyena Chat thread: Everyone's welcome!

I was just curious, because my location just seemed like... very low-tech, you know? Even lower than the machines I used... what, 25+ years ago! What the heck??? :confused3

OOPS! Gotta run to get the boy. See ya!

I have to run and get mine soon - early release on every Thursday :sad2: . I will yap with you later :goodvibes

dang is anyone still here? my computer is so acting up. I keep posting and then it crashes. ; I've lost so many emails etc lately. I hate this. UGH. working on it though.

How do you vote in your area? Not who did you vote for, but what is the ballot like?

When I was in HS we brought in polling machines, and you'd go inside, pull the curtain for privacy, and then there were a bunch of little levers to pull to make your selections.

I thought when I last voted (4 years ago) that we slipped our paper ballot into a panel, and then used a sharp object to punch out the selection we wanted. (I think these are the ones involved in the whole "hanging chad" controversy last time, though that was in FL, not WA.)

Anway, when I went to vote this time, I saw people carrying around their paper ballots, and there were little bubbles to color in for your selection! Isn't this going waaaaay backwards? I was surprised everything wasn't computerized!

In fact, they did have a new option that was electronic, basically using a credit-card type thing that you plugged into a machine which then displayed your ballot on a monitor. It was a touch screen and you just touched the box you wanted to select and it would fill in an x on the box onscreen. You just touched it again to de-select.

And NO CURTAIN! I was surprised, because people were walking around behind me and it bugged me! I felt like anybody could watch me as I cast my votes, reading along with me on the screen! (I don't think anybody was doing that, but there was nothing to stop them.) :lmao:

Well I guess that makes mine extremely low tech. Our County is apparently to poor for voting machines and did away with in-person voting years ago when they ok'd vote by mail. We are required to do ours by mail. But I did use a #2 pencil or black pen to fill in the little circles. :rotfl2: Ours either have to be returned by mail or dropped off at one of the 5 ballot drop boxes in the County. I think there is a drop box in each town in the county...Kalama, Woodland, Longview, Kelso and Castle Rock.:thumbsup2 Yep, just checked, there is one near our City Hall.:thumbsup2

OK, I'm dying to know what gender the babies are...so just popped on for a few minutes to see if we know or if she's keeping us in suspense. I need to go grab some lunch and if Megan doesn't post it by this evening then I will just have to drive up and dangle some sugary snack like Twinkies in front of her until she tells me!:lmao:
