The Hyena Chat thread: Everyone's welcome!

Hey Alex, we've all had those days where we forget to feed our kids lunch. :lmao: Luckily starbucks was in the day for you. Do you own stock in that company? :lmao: Sounds like the boys are doing great in their activities. :thumbsup2

I'm upset about missing the service but it was going to be really hard to get back. it was 3-5pm tomorrow with dinner following and we would have to come straight back to Phoenix after dinner. We all had to be back by early morning Monday. Jeff closes tonight so I couldnt leave until I found someone to watch the kids. I wouldnt even be gone 24 hours. I started talking to my brother about it and he said I should stay home then when Morgan got hurt I hate to hand her over to another family until 11pm tonight til Jeff gets off.

Good afternoon, hyenas!
It's overcast today (DUH!) but temps are kinda balmy (60ish maybe?), weird! But not raining! :woohoo:

We had our crazy morning of:
1. Swim class registration at 7 AM. Uff da! Big long line when I got there around 6:45, and once I got in I found out everyone else in line already had paperwork filled out!

I was under the impression they would just hand out a number, and we'd come back at 8 to register, being called up by the number. (That's how it worked last time I registered...) So I scrambled to find the forms and fill them out while I was in line (1 form per child per class, so 4 for me to fill out.) They don't actually start processing them until the afternoon, so I won't know if we got our classes until perhaps the end of next week. Here's hoping...

2. Went to Starbucks for java for two, brought it home and then showered and dressed for a birthday party DS4 was attending.

3. Dashed out of the house (forgetting my camera but remembered water bottles) for the party; arrived and found a great parking space right out front! Was told we were half an hour early for the party (oops!), and forgot the water bottles in the car. Ah well...

4. DS4 had a great time at the party, and they fed the kids pizza, juice and cake afterward. The birthday boy was so adorable, told every child thank you for the present (without prompting, I was impressed!)

5. DH took DS8 to his swim class. He said DS did GREAT in his class, he's really progressing well! I'm so pleased, especially considering this is a hard class. (It's more advanced than I ever got, for sure! Not that I went that far...)

6. Then they dashed off to DS's orthodontic appointment, to check on DS' palate expander. He's doing great with it, wearing it all the time, and his teeth are responding well! So they did a minor adjustment (making the outer wires fit more closely to his teeth) and said to keep up the good work!
:thumbsup2

7. Gave DS4 a bath when we got home, and popped him into bed for nap.

8. DH just dashed off to coach one of his two soccer teams in a game.

9. DS8 just came in to ask if I would feed him lunch. GEESH, I forgot to feed my kid lunch! :headache:

:faint: Well, I am exhausted now. My day seems pretty easy...sleep in until 9, get ready for soccer closing ceremonies which thank goodness were "take your trophy and get out". Then hit DH's work to pick up one of his employees daughters (he really needed her to work, and she has no babysitter), and have spent the rest of the day "winterizing" my wardrobe (I am sure if you google that Shawna you will learn what it means) When DN gets home from work he is going to work on my fench some more :thumbsup2
Sorry, I had to go fix a game for Jake. :sad2: I dont blame you. Thank God they did not tell Jeff he could not go on vacation OR in a way I'm really glad they didnt tell him this happened when we were in FL.

Its nuts I've been totally stressing over it all summer. Stressing my time as a SAHM mom is coming to an end. I know this will sound horrible but I've been terribly depressed about it too but I'm beyond that phase now. (I hope) :lmao: I just need to do something and luckily I have a lot of friends who are nurses that pushed me towards that instead of finishing up my meteorology degree. That wouldnt get me many places. My priorities have changed since I started that years ago.

That sounds great and just what you needed :goodvibes

 Sorry Shawna - I think I missed that discussion - I have had to skip a bunch of pages

I forgot to post what my nephew got me for my birthday....he is building me a fence!!! :cool1:

I know, probably sounds weird, but our property is horse property, so it would keep in a horse, but not a beagle. So poor Stitch is on a long chain to keep him in the yard - well he is fencing in a portion of the yard - this way Stitch can come on the porch and live in his dog house (which he is building too) when it snows :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 sounds awesome! I've always wondered about dogs in the horse properties around here.

Tarnation! I had this huge, long post, and the DIS ate it!

Anyway, sorry for running off earlier, but I did need to feed that poor child.

Kids are almost in bed (thank goodness!) and Criminal Minds is a repeat.
Somebody save me! :rotfl:

I'm starting to feel a lot better today after having taken my new meds. It seems to be helping my cough more than the promethazine. :confused3 I'm still coughing but at least it's a dry cough and the doctor said I should be fine and can return to work on Monday.

My bf and I went to a Japanese store that we like in the mall. They have these imported photo booth machines. It's similar to the ones I took pics in when I was in Taiwan. It was really strange though because one camera was on the top and then we would wonder why our head was cut off and then I look down and point to a camera below. We had to squat and take pics and then stand up to take pics and it was crazy. :rotfl: Then afterwards they give you loads of time to add stuff to your pics with a stylus pen before it prints out.

We ate lunch at Red Lobster and we ate their lunch specials. Then we headed back home because my bf wanted to work on his bike. He had to take half of the pieces of his bike back to the paint shop. Whoever did the clear coat did a poor job and he took the parts back and they said they would redo them.

I rested at home for a bit and then we headed out to Nordstrom to pick up my pre-ordered merchandise. The lady rang up the wrong handbag and it turns out that they did not have the one I originally wanted. She was confused as heck and didn't seem to know what she was doing. :confused3 I remember her saying she had worked there for a few years now but she seemed lost. I asked that she do a return for the wrong handbag and she did but it took a long time because she kept mumbling things. :confused3

Oh and she asked me what my job was and she said that her son is quitting his current job to become an Imagineer for Disney! I said: "Wow, that's so cool!" and she said: "I guess...if you like that sort of thing." I wanted to scream: "OMG! ARE YOU KIDDING ME???" Apparently she's not a Disney fan.

We stopped at Fossil on the way home. I have a watch that changes color and that part stopped working. The salesman was really nice and said that my watch runs on 4 batteries. He checked the batteries and replaced it and got it working again. It cost $10 but he did clean the watch as well and said the batteries should last for about a year.

My local Walmart used to replace battery watches but they now have a new policy. They said that they will only replace batteries for watches purchased in their store. :confused3 I guess they don't want to be held responsible if something bad were to happen.

Good Morning Hyena Folk! Hope everyone has a wonderful day.:)

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: I'm so sorry Megan that your DH is having an affair with Little Debbie. Sadly that hussy seems to make her way into many homes. Just try not to make it a threesome. Now is the time to kick her out before she takes over your entire family.:rotfl2:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: OMG... That is REALLY funny, because just last night.. He told me he would divorce my butt in a minute for Little Debbie. :lmao: :lmao: Drop me like a sack of potatoes. :lmao: Im good with that, I would do the same. :lmao:

We watched the new Indiana Jones movie yesterday.. It was okay. It more reminded me of the Librarian movies, then the old indy movies. but then.. I have to say... Indy was a bit before my time. :rolleyes1 The kids liked it.

It totally made me think of Disneyland though. :rotfl2:

Just made a new salsa recipe I found on the back of a can of black beans. It is very tasty, healthy and depending on how much onion you put it, it could be very kid friendly.

1 can black beans, rinsed.
1 can corn, rinsed
2 tomatoes, diced
Onion, diced, however much you like. Recipe calls for 1 medium.
1/4 cup lime juice
1 tsp. cummin powder

Works good with Tostito's Scoops, but I think it would taste awesome on taco's, burritos or even on scrambled eggs.:thumbsup2

mmm, looks good.. but I bet it would be even better with a bit of cilantro to give it some OOMPH. I've heard that some people don't like cilantro because it tastes like soap to them-- odd.
I would use canned tomatoes.. but only because finding a decent fresh one around here is nearly impossible now that the season is over. I do okay with fresh, it's the sauce that kills my tummy.

and then the newly found chore of storing the summer clothes and bringing back out the winter clothes (I know Shawna, you have no idea what I am talking about here, but it really does happen)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo say it ain't so! I'm going to pretend that it will stay warm, not packing up the summer clothes. If I don't pack them up then I will have warm sunny days...Because I said SO! :snooty: SO THERE!

But I did add my four long sleeve T's to my drawer shhhhhhhhhh...

J asked if we had boots... umm wha's that?? :rolleyes1

I was supposed to go To San Diego tonight to go to the Memorial service tomorrow for my brothers friend However, Morgan came home from dance early today with a hurt ankle. Jeff has a mess at work so with everything I am not going to San Diego. Lovely.

 I'm sorry that you won't be able to go. I know it was something you really wanted to do. Hope Morgan's ankle gets better soon.

Oh I need to share my new venture. I thought I would wait til I got back to get started on it. I have an appt with an advisor at the school next week to start the LONG process to go into nursing school.
:goodvibes You will do wonderfully!! It's a big change, but I think you are well suited to nursing.

Tarnation! I had this huge, long post, and the DIS ate it!

The DIS was hungry. Congratulations, you fed the hungry monster-- making way for all of our posts. Thanks! :thumbsup2

but then.. I have to say... Indy was a bit before my time. :rolleyes1 .

I just taught the old man how to make lasagna.. I have this fear that I will be so laid out before long that I wont be able to stand long enough to cook.. Or that I will have t go on bed rest or something.. So i have slowly been teaching my husband how to make simple BALANCED meals for the fam. Namely for the beasties.. I asked if he could make dinner for the kids the other night, and he pops out with a can of ravioli. They wont eat that!!!!! Odd... I know. But it grosses them out.

So I showed him how quick and simple it was to make pork chops, rice pilaf, and green beans. Not the healthiest, BUT.. healthier than ravioli. Today was the lesson in lasagna. Easy. with some salad, and garlic bread... another meal. Before long, he will be an expert chef!;) :lmao: Probably not.. But he WILL be able to cook a meal without resorting to cans.

OMG! This person makes the cutest cakes! http://flickr.com/photos/21878993@N03/ :wizard:
I was looking through the cakes, agreeing that they are so adorable! Then I came upon the real reason you loved those cakes:

I agree, pix ~ very creative decorating! Just had to give you a bit of ribbing about the Juicy cake. ;)

I don't know that 'soap' is exactly the flavor I would call it, but is just as distasteful as a bar of soap, it makes me gag. Even just the tiniest amount! I had this salad once I was trying to enjoy, but couldn't because every once in awhile I got this terribly bitter bite that would make me want to hurl. I eventually figured out that the flavor was cilantro, when my (now ex-) SIL made a salsa with cilantro in it. :scared:

Good for him! :thumbsup2

My dad's cooking skills are limited to frying (and burning things on the barbeque in the summer), so whenever my mom was laid up, we had fried sausages and eggs, fried pork chops, fried hash browns... If it would fit in a skillet with oil, that was called 'dinner'.

Hi Alex...
Hey, how are you feeling today? Not so achey, I hope. :flower3:

DH and the (big) boy went to the grocery store, and DS4 is supposedly napping. (Or is it 'allegedly'? 'Supposed to be'!) :rotfl:

So I get a few minutes of peace. It's nice. :rotfl:

He is definitely doing better then when we first met. He could barely make make toast. He could grill fine.. Thats not an issue.. But to him, he will grill up some meat, and ther eyou go. Theres dinner. :scared: You cant just feed them MEAT!! I just want to get him to understand exactly WHAT is in a balanced meal.. He seems to not get it.

I"m thinking I should sign up for Staley's Idiot's Guide to Cooking class... :lmao:

Learn to boil water!
Learn to take advantage of your crockpot!
Learn the basics so that you can confidently prepare any kind of meat that your family will love!
