The Hyena Chat thread: Everyone's welcome!

Did they mention Boeing??? The vote was today... I guess I should check that out, huh?

Strike is OVER!!!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: I knew this was it! Alright. To bad this means I probably wont see my hubby again until Christmas. :lmao:

yep, the same exact one!

The owl startles me.

WHO? :rotfl2:

There are two batteries on the back...one runs the clock and the other runs the birds chirping. I just took the bird battery out.

Well, ladies... I think I better get to bed. My thinking is getting slower... and fluffier. :lmao:

Hey, Ch. 4 has a new news anchor from Phoenix. I wonder if Shawna and Dizzy used to watch her. She says after 5 years in Phoenix, she's had her fill of sun. Good thing, girlie, since you sure aren't gonna see it here anytime soon! :rotfl:

Goodnight Alex! Happy Dreams.:cloud9:

And here is the wood cook stove that MIL gave to me. Yes, it works and has all the internal parts, but I don't have it hooked up. Also, we would need legs for it if we ever used it because right now it sits directly on the floor.

And here is the antique trunk my mother gave to me. It holds our Christmas ornaments in the off season...are you getting a sense of my house?? I am the responsible person, so everyone gives me their special family heirlooms to take care of and pass down.:lmao:

I have asked my mom not to give me any of her stuff. My sister likes it, and displays it. I DONT like it. I have one or two things that are important to me.. My dads shadow box, and this silk screen my dad had handpainted for my mom in japan. Other then that.. I dont care. I dont want it. We just arent stuff kinda people.

And this is a rocking chair that my grandmother gave to me. She had it for years, it's very old and creaks like crazy when you sit in it. I love that chair and the purple afghan is one the DH's grandmother was working on when she passed away.

Love the cook stove, if we ever buy a house.. I wouldn't mind using an old stove.. not a wood one, but the old gas ones from the 50's. They are beautifully made.

I see them pop up on Craigslist frequenlty. People want to get rid of them, they work just fine.

My mom used a wood cook stove when she was a young girl. Her grandmother had one on the "farm", even used the old irons that are put on the stove to heat.. my mom has a scar from playing with one .. dropped it on her foot. You can see the pointy tip on her toe.

My fave aunt used a wood cook stove out at her cabin-- it was fun to watch her heat it up and use the griddle to make tons of pancakes for everyone. :goodvibes

OH! and I have the rocking chair my mom used when I was a baby. I teethed on it, and it has my little teeth marks all up the side of the arm.

That's sweet!

I kept a few toys and writings from my childhood. Kept the fave things of the boys from when they were babes.

E was aking "when do we give them their stuff?"

When they have babes of their own of course. :goodvibes

Exactly! I have a couple of toys.. Dolls, cabbage patch kids. I gave them to my kids.

I am so not a keepsake kinda person. I dont know why.. I dont collect anything... I dnt decorate.. I like plain and simple.

I want my mom's cast iron griddle. Someone else can have the depression glass (passed from her mom) nad the other collector plates. I have fond memories of watching my mom make pancakes in the camper on that griddle.

Perfectly seasoned from many years of use.

I love having the stuff that belonged to our ancestors. But it's all stuff that we use, not just stuff that sits around and looks pretty. I have tons of kitchen stuff that belong to my great grandmother...useful stuff...lots of really neat old bowls, crystal and glassware.

Not all of it is real old, I have a big melamine bowl that was my grandmothers that I use to make cookie dough in.

This is my great grandmothers serving tray, it is just depression glass. It is called the harp pattern and was very popular. One time I found a picture of the matching pieces in a book...they were all very expensive, but had a note that to date only 1 serving tray had been found, so it was very rare and probably worth about $1,000. But you know what? I don't care that it's old or expensive, I loved my great grandma (Nannie) and she would want me to use it. So here it is right now in my kitchen with cookies on it. If it breaks I will be sad, but I would be even sadder if I put it in a case and never used it. I guess in some ways it makes me remember them, I tell my kids lots of stories about them every time we use them and I feel a sort of connection with them still, even though they have passed away.

Hey pix. Im up because my bed is otherwise occupied. I dont feel like going in and kicking any one out. Yet.

Hey Staley! How are you?

I took the longest nap this afternon and am not the least bit sleepy. I woke up early for some reason (8:30am) and could not fall back to sleep. Watched a bit of I Love Lucy in the morning and made some sunny side up eggs and some turkey and ham for breakfast. I watched an episode of Dirty Jobs and then my bf woke up. We went to America's Tire to get the tires I ordered. My tires were balding but still had a bit of tread left. They match Tire Rack's website prices. Oh and this one sales guy I didn't like at my local America's Tire was there at the one I went to. Ugh! :headache: Thankfully my bf was with me so he didn't try to rip me off this time. :sad2:

My bf drove his car so we could wander around while we waited for my car. I got some frozen yogurt and then went to Barnes and Noble. When we came out it was starting to rain again. When I woke up this morning it was pouring for a while and there was a thunder. Then a couple minutes later it stopped and looked like it was going to be sunny but then it became cloudy again and started raining.

We watched Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3D (the DVD comes with 4 3D glasses). We went to Target awhile ago and I tried to get these Domokun figurines that were on clearance but they were all gone :(

Now I'm watching Sex in the City: The Movie. Have you guys seen it? It's actually good. I've never seen the show though.

I collect a few things (fun silly stuff, not of value) and we do lots of keepsakes (drawings, first toys, locks of hair, etc.)

.. no decorating going on here

Keep it simple and functional -- just the right size to fit in a tiny apartment. :thumbsup2

Hi Alison! :) Ooooh cookies, better hide them from Albort! :rotfl:

Hey chicas, so what are you all doing up so late? Hmm? popcorn::

Hiya Pix! Why we gain another hour tonight due to daylight savings time ending, so we didn't want to waste it.:lmao:

Hi Alison! :) Ooooh cookies, better hide them from Albort! :rotfl:

They were kinda weird cookies...tried a new recipe "Banana split sundae" cookies. They taste like banana bread only in cookie form. They are good, but just weird, kinda bread like and spongy. Good with ice cream, but kind of odd by themselves. But it used up about 4 bananas in the recipe, so a good way to get rid of the over ripe bananas without wasting them.:thumbsup2
