I posted on the "What Are You Reading" thread yesterday that I had just finished reading this book and hated it.

[ducks out of the way while everyone throws things at me]

That being said, I'm curiously interested in the casting of the movie, even though I probably won't watch it. I thought Jennifer Lawrence was a great choice for Katniss (which I know is also kind of unpopular). They announced some other casting today. What do you think?

Josh Hutcherson (from The Kids Are All Right) is playing Peeta. Liam Helmsworth is playing Gale. I would have switched these two around, I think. The image I had in my head while reading the book was the exact opposite.

I think they should get John Malcovich to play Haymitch. That's what I had in my head while reading the book.

I really liked the books.

After watching Winter's Bone I'm happy with Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss.

I'm disappointed with the casting of Peeta and Gale. The choices make me worry that this will be a Twilightesque, commercialized piece of tweeny garbage.

I loved the books, and truly dread the idea of the movie! It is a shame that such a thought-provoking young adult trilogy will be turned into tabloid junk. It is sad that our society thinks every book must be turned into a movie! What is wrong with a book just being a book!?!

I'm not happy with any of the casting yet. Josh/Liam as Peeta/Gale seem backwards to me too. I'm worried about LHs ability to play Gale's later material. I'm not worried about JH's acting as Peeta and I like that he isn't tall & skinny but they seem to be throwing the physical descriptions of the characters out the window. Blond Katniss & Gale w/a dark haired Peeta...ok then.

I absolutely love the books :lovestruc and when I was reading the first one actually said to DH that I hope that they don't make them into a movie. I just don't think that they are going to be able to do it justice, trying to make it into a movie. Now that they are, and I see who they are casting in the roles, I don't think that I will want to see it. I am happier having read it and imagining Katniss and Peeta in my head. :goodvibes I definitely don't see Josh as Peeta. I think Hunter Parrish would have been perfect for that role. Oh well.

Hulagirl-I notice that you have Coraline in your signature. Just curious as to whether you have read the book, watched the movie, or both. IMO it is another example of a movie not doing the book justice! :-)Wondered what you thought.

Interesting... I've not seen the movie, but I remember reading RAVE reviews of it when it first came out.

Random thinking I'll blame on a RPG: but was anyone else thinking Zac Efron as Finnick?

I thought the movie was decent, but it lacked the true tenor of the book. The book was deeper, darker, and made Coraline a much stronger heroine. A very good read for the upper elementary/early adult set.

Personally, I liked the book and I like the movie, but they are two very different creatures that really can't be compared.

Now as to The Hunger Games. Uhm. Yeah. Not really thinking these books will be well-translated, though I think they could be.

The first book was okay but I totally baled on book two. The concept and plotline simply went awry and "head-shaking" for me.

As for J. Lawrence...ummmm..one would imagine she'd dye her hair for the role.

Haymitch I pictured as overweight and scruffy and grumbly.

Liam Hemsworth is too pretty to be Gale. I pictured him a bit more haggard and rugged. Josh Hutcherson is too baby faced to pull off Peeta.

I am sure they'll turn this YA book into a teen romance. Yuck.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that didn't like these books. I really wanted to like them but I just couldn't get into them at all.

the only that gives me hope is that the author is so involved in the process. Even with that, I am finding it hard to stay positive. Then again, I am not easy to please when they make the books I love into movies.

:):wizard:

DD loves this book series and is really hoping the movie doesn't ruin it.
