and the asking price is
$1,395,000!!!!!:earseek:

The realtor we used to buy our house, her office has the listing. She told me that just to see the house the potential buyers have to have a pre approval from a mortgage company for $2,000,000. They originally had it listed for $1,750,000 and refused to put a for sale sign on their property. I guess they changed their minds.
They have this really fancy for sale sign too. It looks like a sign for a business! She also told me they paid close to $300,000 for it in 1993 and they completely restored it. If you're curious here's a link to the listing:

Can someone tell me, WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE WHO CAN AFFORD A HOUSE LIKE THIS!!!???

I have to say I do have a nice view. I love old homes and this one is beautiful and nice to look at.:teeth:

I need a MLS number to search it...the link isn't taking me directly to the house.

I just edited it. The link should work now, sorry about that!

Wow, that is gorgeous. Maybe I'll win the lotto. ;)

It's a dream house. Couldn't even afford the taxes on the house!

It is a very beautiful home . . .its so HUGE . . .I can't imagine having that kind of money and to spend it on a house.

You'll have to keep us informed on its sale price. Someone will purchase it . . .someone very wealthy.

It is ridiculous to say, but after seeing the house, I thought, "Gee, that is a pretty reasonable price"!

Real Estate in this area is out of control and a house like that on the North Shore of Chicago, meaning Winnetka, Wilmette, Kenilworth would be twice the cost.

Here are a couple of examples:

Winnetka House #1

Kenilworth House

Ignore the acreage size on the Winnetka House, it is messed up somehow, the lot is about an acre. Also notice the lot for the kenilworth house is fairly small. So from the standpoint of really nice, very large houses in this area, your house is a "steal!" :p

Real estate anywhere commuting distance to NY (and in lots of other areas too) has gone positively through the roof over the last few years. It really sucks for people like my husband and myself who are trying to get into the market with prices so high. Of course we are not looking at anything nearly as large or extravagant as that but it really is an awful feeling when a "starter" house will set you back at least $300k with a 1:15 commute to manhattan :(

That is not a bad price. It is on 3.3 acres!

Lori

And it's got 18 rooms! The house I live in has 4 rooms, 5 if you consider the livingroom and kitchen separate.

tricia.

That would make a beautiful bed & breakfast!

:earseek: My brother-in-law lived in Goshen yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeears ago. Amazing it increased that much in 11 years.

There was an article in The Times Herald Record (local newspaper in Goshen) a couple of weeks ago that said real estate prices in Orange County has increased 400% in the last two years. It is insane. DH and I are from this area and planned to retire there after he finished in the military, but now it is virtually impossible unless we win the lottery.

Nikki, DH and I know this house, I have always loved it! On one hand I can't believe the price, but on the other hand I am not surprised. I can't imagine a $10,000 a month mortgage!

My Mom used to live near Goshen. I have to tell her about that house. She will be in shock.:earseek:

It is such as seller's market around here (Northern VA) that I don't think that price is bad at all for that house. What I would consider the "norm" around here (1900 - 3100 sq. ft. homes) are going from the high 400,000s to the mid 600,000s. My neighor has 1900 sq. ft. on two levels and is getting ready to list her house for $459K!! She paid $219000 in 2000! There's very little inventory right now so that's what the market is doing.

That house is AWESOME and I agree, that's a GREAT price for a house like that. We live in Princeton, NJ and a house that big on 3 acres would be over 2 million at least!!! Commuting to NYC from Orange County is a little long IMO, one of the reasons the house is priced lower than I would have thought. The taxes up there are SO REASONABLE to me. I don't pay much less than that here in NJ, so to have a house like that, with those taxes seems like a dream!!! Trust me if Orange County could be a decent commute into NYC, I would have to drag DH up there to look at it!!!

Who do I make the check out to??
