The 2011 London riots are a series of public disturbances and lootings in London, initially in Tottenham, which began on 6 August 2011 following the fatal shooting of a suspect by the police.[10][11][12] This added to discontent about high unemployment and cuts in public services.[8]

Originating in Tottenham, similar events occurred the following evening in Wood Green, Enfield Town and Ponders End. Vandalism and violent conduct was also reported across many other areas of London. Attacks were carried out against the Metropolitan Police Service while local businesses were looted and buildings set alight. At least 35 police officers have been injured.


Hoping it doesn't spread into my town. The closest place with riots occuring is Lewisham, which is about 20 minutes away, by car. Maybe 10-15 minutes by train?
