September visitors too! Our first stay at Pop Century (see signature below)...
September 14-18!

Is anyone else that will be there in September a little nervous about Hurricane season? I would sure like to meet someone that will be there around 9/16-9/21 that will have a car, just in case we need to make a dash for AKL. :moped: ( It is just hubby and I. :teeth: ) My husband tells me I "think too much" but I like to be prepared.

We went last September and were actually there the week between two of the big hurricanes. It was pretty strange, but don't worry, Disney handles everything so GREAT! Just be prepared if you're flying. You may get 'stuck' there for an extra day or two (I can think of much worse places to be stuck :) ) Let me know if you want more details. Have fun! We wanted to get back this September, but we're moving to SC in July and I don't think we can afford to do both so close together.

Look out POP here we come!!! Made my final payment yesterday and it felt soooooo good. Now if only I had a time machine...... :cool1:

Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne came directly through my area (Martin County, FL) last year. Both of them came through in the middle of the night and it was VERY scary.

Where does Disney put everyone during a hurricane?

They put the resorts on 'lock down' and make everyone stay in the buildings and away from windows. So it stinks a little to be somewhere like Pop because you are stuck in your room, whereas, a deluxe resort you could still go in the hallways, lobby (if it's connected,) or to a concierge lounge if you are staying concierge.

When we were there last year between Jeanne and Ivan (I think) we were thinking about staying another night and waiting it out rather than getting caught driving in it. We went to Guest Services around 5:30pm and checked to see if they would extend our special rate (which they were going to.) Then we decided to think about it, we went to DTD, came back to Pop about 3 hours later and all of WDW was booked solid. In that 3 hours they sold out due to people extending their stays and a LOT of FL residents trying to dodge the hurricanes.

Disney really just tells you to stay away from the windows? I guess that's the best they can do though. You aren't supposed to even be in a room with an uncovered (hurricane shutters/plywood) window during a hurricane. We had metal shutters on all of our house windows and they still told us to go to an interior room when it got really bad. Yikes!

OK, I'm done. I won't talk about hurricanes anymore.

I just found out that we might not be staying at POP in October. DH's parents really want to stay at a deluxe and said they'd pay the difference for us to stay there too. We've never stayed at a deluxe before. We've stayed at CBR and I actually prefer POP and the All Stars. It was such a long walk to the food court and buses. Guess I need to start researching deluxe resorts. I'm a little sad because I really like POP.

Hey Zandy,

Where did you find that great countdown ticker. I just went to do one and didn't find anything that cool. We will be celebrating DDs High School Graduation and DSs 8th grade graduation in May next year at the world. And yes we are counting the days already!

Posting to subscribe to this thread.
We're staying at POP in Sept. and I am slowly making my way through the pages of this great thread.....learning a lot!

I could be mistaken, but I believe that all the windows are special reinforced windows that can withstand most hurricane force winds.

What special food (if any) do they serve during Christmas week?? I just thought maybe they had some special stuff maybe. Thanks ahead of time!!

I assume you're talking about the ticker with the days, minutes, and seconds since you have one from TickerCentral.com. Unless you saw the web address and just put it up there. ??? Can't remember where I got it, but I will post if I find it.

JUST MADE OUR REZZIES FOR OUR RETURN TO THE POP CENTURY. BE THERE JULY 25. THE BEST HOTEL IN WDW! :cool1:

Crazy Kanga,

We will be there during that same week staying at the Pop. Maybe we will see you there.

We just got back, last monday - and the POP is very nice place, we did stay in the 60's - Play-Doh side - could see the fireworks at Epcot easily, and the lights from MGM. I'm so glad we had read this thread and knew to buy the mugs - they came in handy! And I suggest - buy the water bottles with fans at home! too expensive at the parks. And if you can swing the bucks - get the prime rib at Le Celliar in Canada, Epcot - so good!

This is my first post so please be patient! We will be arrivng at the Pop Century in June. I have looked at the resort map and would like to stay in the 50's. Does anyone know the room numbers in the Lady section for the end closest to Classic Hall? We know we can only request, but it's worth a shot! Thanks!! :wizard:

I don't know the exact room numbers but that buildings numbers run from 1101-1472 and in the 60's buildings we were in 4310 and that was only 3 rooms away from the stairwell closest to classic hall. Just have them note on your reservation "Building 1, Nearest to classic hall". That is similar to what was noted on ours and we were very close. Also, while you are close to the classic hall building it is still a bit of a walk to the door of that building because the doors are in the middle of the building. Also, none of the buildings are really that far from classic hall, it's just not that spread out. We walked from the 50's to the far end of the 80's building in about 10 minutes, that's the spread of the entire resort. Good Luck!

You're better off requesting by verbage (ie: "Lady building, end closest to Classic Hall") than by room number.
