I am booked. I got all of my paper work today from the local AAA unit. I am stoked about this trip like I haven't been in years. I always love going to WDW but for some reason this year is different. I haven't figured out why yet. Maybe because I am staying on property instead of a condo offsite. Maybe because thisis the first time in five years it will be just me and my family instead of people going with us. At the same time, I am confused. I am getting calls from the school for my kids to go to summer school. I said that will be fine but they will miss one week. The school system is saying that is unacceptable. If they can't commit to the whole six weeks, then they can't go for one week.? The school system and government is basically saying it is all or nothing. Does that make sense? Our vacation has been planned since February. They are expecting me to change our plans just to work around theirs. Any suggestions??? :confused3 ::MickeyMo :guilty: :grouphug:

I think it might depend what 'type' of summer school your kids are attending. I know where my mom works in PA and here in MD if your kids are supposed to go to summer school due to 'not so good' school year grades then they are required to attend every day with no excused absences and that rule is for the good of the kids who need the extra help for the upcoming school year. If your kids are on a rotational system and it's just that their normal school year falls throughout the summer, then I'm not sure why they wouldn't allow them to miss a week just like during the rest of the regular school year.

Are there ceiling fans in Pop rooms? I know probably not, but I love a fan.

No ceiling fans- sorry :( My BF always sleeps with a fan on, likes the noise (and he's always hot) so we took a little mini one with us and put it next to his bed and it worked great!

Help! We are going to be staying at Pop starting May 25th. How far is it to walk to the parks from the bus stops? Where is the drop off for each park? Would it be easier for us to drive and park our car in the lots? We have 4 kids ages 17 mo. to 5 yrs. We will have 1 double stroller and 2 unbrella strollers and at least one diaper bag.

The bus stops for Pop are right near the stops for the other busses at all the parks. I noticed on our trip in September that most of the parks' Pop stops were the last one or close to the last one (probably because it's the newest) so it's a little bit of a walk, but it's a good warm up for all the walking you'll do in the parks :) You would walk from the bus stop to the park entrance. Your parked car may be further away, but you can get on a tram and ride the tram to the park entrance (still some walking from the tram stop to the entrance as well.) It's really up to you whether or not you want to deal with all of your strollers and small children getting on and off a bus, or if you want to load the car, unload the car, load a tram and unload a tram. In a nutshell, taking the bus will probably involve a little more walking, but the driving and taking the tram will involve more loading and unloading of strollers onto vehicles. I don't have any children, so this is just IMO. Maybe someone else with children can offer some help as well.

If they must attend summer school for academic reasons than my suggestion would be to research the exact areas they need assistance in and home school over the summer. I dont know if your a working parent but even in you are there are many programs that allow students to work with only minimal extra assistance.

Good luck and have a great family vacation!

Are all the room the same or diff from each decade bldg?

I like the room in the 60s bldg. We have stayed in the 60s bldg twice. And the room does have the 60s feel to it. (I have seen pixs from the 60s.) I am wondering if the 70s would have like the 70s furnitures or the 50s bldg would have the 50s furniture? Has anyone stayed more than once at a diff bldg, if so, can you tell me? Thanks!!

We stayed in the 70's and the only things I noticed that had a 70's feel were the border of people disco dancing and the framed piece of artwork that had memorabilia from the 70's. I thought the furniture and lighting seemed much more modern than the 70's. I also believe that all decades have similar bedding with a mosaic type of decor representing icons from that decade, and then the decade number randomly posted across it as well. Was the 50's section different???

Hi! Ths is my first post, so please be patient...
I have read almost this entire post. It is AWESOME! Thank you so much for maintaining it. I have gotten so much out of it.
BUT, I am now totally confused as to what my room request should be!

I am relying on the experts here...we are going to the POP for the last week of May. It is my DH, DD6 and DD3 first trip so I am trying to plan some details and have a good general knowledge before we get there. I know that it is only a request but can you give me some advice as to what my best room requests should be. Obviously, I would like to be as close to Classic Hall as possible (as everyone would!) As I said I have DD6 and DD3, so the pools will be a big thing also. I have learned that upper floors are probably better especially for noise. I thought that the 50's would be the best request but now I saw some posts that if you are at the far end of the building it is not good either! :earseek:
PLEASE HELP! I would just like to know what you recommend..give me any suggestions you can. Any advice you can give would be great. :earboy2: THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE WITH A NEWBIE!!

I have been addicted to these boards and see hundreds of replies to some threads but I only had 1 person respond (Thank you Soupermom). Can anyone else give me any recommendations? :confused3

50's section. Its close to the food court area, and the bowling pool is there also. ;) I always ask for 4th floor, end room, and got it once so far, last week I was on the 2nd floor end room near the elevators. :confused3 I actually have the layout of the rooms if anyone wants to know where a certain room is! :p

If being close to Classic Hall and a pool are the most important things then I would definitely say the 50's are your best bet. Then make 2 requests- close to classic hall and top floor. Remember, they're only requests, but it doesn't hurt to ask ;) We were in the 70's and thought they were a great location, but there isn't a pool right there, so I would say 50's is your best bet. Good luck!

I am newbie here, hello everyone. First on-property visit for me, (normally I stay at a timeshare. ) I was wondering how do you get from Pop to other resorts? I am thinking about checking out the other resorts for future visits. If I do this it will after park hours and I don't want to to get caught at another resort after the busses stop running!

Busses go from all resorts to Downtown Disney and Pleasure Island (in the same area) until about 2:00 a.m. The last bus out of Pleasure Island is at 2:00 a.m. (or maybe slightly later). So, you can use the Pleasure Island location as a sortof "transportation hub". Meaning, you can take a bus from your resort to Pleasure Island (PI) and then hop a bus to another resort. Just make sure you get back to PI before the last bus leaves for your home resort.

This actually makes me wonder (Maybe Chip N Dale can answer this) ...

how late do busses go BACK to PI? I want to go to Jellyrolls at BW, and I'm sure to want to stay there as late as possible. I'm wondering how late is "safe" to hop a bus back to PI to make it on a bus to POP by 2 a.m.?

Thanks!

I am driving from Fort Lauderdale and I do not think I will be getting off on I-4, could you tell me how to get to pop century. Thanks (leaving in four days)

We just got back and found the easiest way to pop was follow the signs for wide world of sports, as it is right there the road to get into pop we went mgm and epcot way and was way longer, WWOS way was very easy!!

There is a floater bus at Boardwalk that departs at 2:00am that can take you to where you need to go.

we live in western palm beach county and drive the turnpike till it ends and take the osceola parkway into WDW- follow the signs and it should be up on your right! its the easiet way for us to get there.

This is a GREAT thread. We were all set to stay at the ASMu for the first part of our trip in a couple of weeks, but were changed to POP. Somehow ASMu was overbooked (huge crowds I guess) and they asked us to switch to POP and promised us 25 Disney Dollars upon arrival for our trouble. (After reading this thread, I think I should give them $25 for changing my ressie, LOL.)

Early Saturday morning, I booked my second stay at Pop Century! :cool1: I'm hoping my second stay there is just as magical as the first! :wizard:

I am less than 5 weeks away from staying here for the first time and I am so excited. ( I feel like one of the Pointer Sisters when I say that. :rotfl: ) We have been planning this trip since February and noe that it is just around the corner, I can taste it. I feel like I can already see the resort. I have no idea which resort we are going to be in but it really doesn't matter. I kind of don't want to be in the 70's just because I wasn't a fan of the decade but I really don't care where I end up. I feel like telling them to give me the room furtherest away so somebody else could have something closer. I don't mind the walk and besides if I can do something to make someones trip better then I am all for it.

Let's go today! I'm ready now!! ::MickeyMo :teeth: :cool1:

To the two September visitors, we are hoping to go back this September before our annual passes expire. About the same time as you all, as the expire 9/20/05. Hope to see you in the coming months on the boards while we are all planning! Oh, and thank you for wanting the furthest room, as we usually ask for the "closest to the coffee"! We will be one of the ones that you make our vacation! Especially the next trip with a 3yo, and a 4month old! :love1:
