okay Im taking the kids on a solo trip without dh is a few weeks and this will be our first stay at the POP. What area should I request with two kids? I want to be close to the pool and the food court but not so far away from the bus stop. seems like the reviews of the preferred make it sound noisy and Im not sure I would want that at night. TIA

Pool views & first floors will have the most noise. The higher up rooms along with lake views will be quieter.

I see that this thread is still going strong!!! We got back from our second trip to POP on 4/4. I am still recovering from WDW blues!! Anyway, we had a great time and had the ABSOLUTE BEST room at POP. :earsboy: It was room 5161, in the 60's section. It was the corner room on the first floor, and it was THE CLOSEST to the food court! Filling those mugs was a breeze! We experienced no late night screaming, and had a very peaceful stay!! We checked in at 1 am on the 3/31. All that I can say is WOW- we stayed a POP one other time and got a room in the other 60's building, facing the pool on the 1st floor. I thought it would be noisy, but it wasn't then, either. Maybe in the summer when people are at the pools later, it may be noisy, but we couldn't beat walking out to the pool, and not having to go far for food, pool, or bus. The parking lot is a hike, but a 5-7 minute walk- we always saw rabbits out hopping, and DS2 loved that. No complaints here- maybe Tyler can verify the 'cool' factor of our location!! Room 5161 ROCKS! :cool1: :cheer2:  :Pinkbounc

okay so what section of this resort would be close to the food hall and pool besides the 60's and not a far walk to a bus stop? thanks

Check out the resort map. POP Century Resort Map

If you get the closest "wing" in 50's A or 70's B, you'll be just as close, if not closer, than staying in the 60's. We stayed in 70's B and it was very quiet. Unfortunately we got the wing that was the furthest from Classic Hall, but it still wasn't that long of a walk.

mrsdiznee- yes, it is a non smoking room. I'll try to post a photo of our 'view' from our front door...

Dumb question, based on the map posted above, where exactly are the premium buildings then? Just wondering since I'm paying for a premium room.

THANK YOU!

Would the extra payment be worth it just for the 60's section then? Or should I just pay the regular rate and request a room elsewhere? Why is this so confusing? Is it me? Sheesh . . . it's just vacation, I should be happy ANYWHERE right? I just want my family to have a better than awesome time (since I'm giving up cruising for this). Help!

Hi cruzin2paradise!

I would vote against the extra money spent on the preferred section. I've stayed at POP twice & will be back again next month - both stays were in the 50's section. If you're looking to be close to the main pool, food court & bus stops - request a room in the 50's or 70's. The 50's also has the Bowling Pin shaped pool - so, it's nice to be near 2 pools.

I think your family will have a great time wherever you stay at POP - have fun! :)

Is it true that the teen groups don't get put into POP Century? We want to avoid them like the plague if we get back to WDW this August. We were awakened at all hours of the night by High School Marching Band members "hanging out" by the dozens right outside our room, at ASMu. We will scrimp to afford a mod/deluxe if that's our only hope, but this is a trip we probably should not be spending $ on, lol...just dying to get a better WDW trip in before AP expires.

From what I have read on here, the cheerleading, dance, & sports groups will be kept at the All Stars unless they are overbooked and then some overflow may be put at Pop. I'm not sure about a Marching Band group, but if they are there for a competition that is taking place at the Wide World of Sports complex, then I would assume that would include them as well. Have fun at Pop :)

don't count on avoiding the teen group.

most of the competition will take place in WWoS - any regular visitor to WDW will know that the Pop Century is closer than AS. Plus I am pretty certain that WDW will allow group booking at Pop rather than lost the business. Now the rate will probably be higher - but some people will definitely pay it to be that much closer.

Now if this will be a big number of people - don't know.

I stayed at P.O.Riverside in December and there quite a few groups booked there. So as you can see they are liable to be anywhere although most likely in the value resorts.

I must say that I never encounter a problem with any of them other than it does make the food court a bit crowded in the morning.

We are going to be staying at Pop May 25-28th. On our reservations it says classic years wide world of sports area. Does anyone know what this means? Is this where our room will be located? thanks.

In case you didn't know, there are two resorts at POP Century - Classic Years (1950-1990) and Legendary Years (1900-1940). It's like the All Stars has Movies, Music and Sports. However, Legendary Years was started, but never finished.

As for the Wide World of Sports area, all the resorts are "assigned" to an area. For example, Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge and Polynesian are Magic Kingdom area resorts. POP Century is close to Wide World of Sports so that's why it says that area.

Those comments on your reservations don't have anything to do with where your actual room is. If you'd like, you can request a specific building. Take a look at POP Century Resort Map.

Well DH and I are contemplating a trip in December with two sets of dates.
December 15-20
December 21-27
We are unsure of which one we should do. The reason we wanted to go during Christmas is because we have never gone during Christmas and it will be nice to get away from the chaos of four different families pulling us their way and arguing about it. We wanted a nice care-free trip with the peace of it just being us celebrating!

My question is... has anyone ever been to Pop and had a wonderful time at Christmas and didn't regret going at the busy time? I'm sure that the crowds aren't too bad, right?? We are pretty set on going at Christmas and being there for Christmas day but I wanted to hear someone else say it's a great time to go! :rotfl:

All right now, it only took me 6 days to read this entire thread, and it was certainly worth it. I recently had to change our Jan 1st ressie from POFQ to POP due to some unexpected bills at home. Probably will save about $50 a night doing that. Pop looks to be a great family resort based on everything I have read. There will be four of us, myself, DW, and 2 DS, ages 15 &11. We will hopefully help all the other families staying at Pop get what they want as far as requests for certain sections and rooms, because we only want a non smoking room, which I don't forsee being a problem. Other than that, any room with 2 double beds will work for us, as we are only in the room to sleep at night. All of the waking hours of the days will be spent at the parks, DTD, DisneyQuest, and resort hopping. DW and myself are going to spend one day resort hopping while the boys enjoy DisneyQuest. Thanks for all of the great info prior to this, and I have a little over 8 months left to keep reading until our trip. This is a fantastic thread. Bill :earsboy:
