SRUAlmn and BaciBecky ~ FL Res. Booking Code BEW This is where I found the code I used.

Chip 'n Dale Express ~ The water might be warm enough, but I'm not getting in the pool if I'm going to freeze when I get out. LOL Anything under 75° is too cold for me to swim. :cold:

Yes, the flowers spray water into the pool. It's a great pool with plenty of deck chairs and a bar "Petals" nearby. Enjoy!!

Not today :( He said to keep checking back, though :) Also, I asked about general public codes for the summer and he said they usually come out at the beginning of the season prior. He said that peak season begins on 2/17/05, so the summer codes should be out somewhere at the end of Feb or beginning of March :)

Zandy: You're a FL resident...that explains it :)

That is a very good rate for peak season. Rack rate is $119 I believe. I could only get our down to 75. That was with a lot of negotiating with the group people.

We are staying at POP next week. My son and husband love to play basketball. I figure that POP does not have an area to play basketball, but does anyone know if there's any place else to do so?

Hoops buildings at All Star Sports if you don't mind 30 foot tall baskets... :)

I cant quite place EpCot from the Pop. When we were at Caribbean Beach in Oct I took a walk over to Pop. It seems rather than sides of the bldgs facing the lake that EpCot was actually closer to the end of Pop that is closer to CB. Why do people ask to face the lake for Illuminations?

To see Spaceship Earth from some POP rooms you are looking toward the end of the lake, not straight at the middle - does that make sense? If you look at the POP map and building 2 (Jukebox) in the 50's, it's the rooms on the back of the left arm of that building (or other rooms facing that way) that have, I think, the best view of IllumiNations. It's the top of IllumiNations, of course, but nice!

Last Feb we were in a room in that building and could see IllumiNations right from our window. Our room last December required that we step outside onto the walkway and look to our right. We were in the Tramp building, lakeside.

Maybe someone else can explain it better! Hope this helps.

I don't understand why it's considered a Wide World of Sports Resort because it is so close to EPCOT. I think folks might understand the location better if it was listed as an EPCOT area Resort.

This is the Crazy Daisy I was talking about. I don't know who made it (maybe Fisher-Price), but it was a kid's sprinkler toy for the yard. I was wondering if the ones at POP were giant versions.

It's listed as a Wide World of Sports area resort, because that makes it easier to find. Just look for the WWoS signs, and BAM you're there. :)

:o Yes, I can see how that would make sense for most people...but..when were driving around last December the WWoS just got us confused! We kept taking the wrong turn!!!;)

We had a FANTASTIC visit at Pop Century!!!! For anyone not wanting to splurge on a more expensive resort and who is not expecting all the 'frills' but wants to be 'on-site' at DW and not just somewhere nearby, I'd fully recommend checking out POP!

The pools were GREAT ... and yes the petals :flower: look like giant versions of the fisher price ones and they mist water ... and there is even a 'pool princess' ceremony in the morning when the sprinklers are turned on. Apparently the princess selects a guest to go around and magically activate each mister?!?!? I wasn't there to see the ceremony, so I don't know all the details, but my hubby and daughter told me about it. I'm guessing it occurs around 10:00 when the life guards go on duty (the pool is actually open 7 a.m. to midnight but life guards are on duty from 10 am-10 pm) Anyway ... my daughter enjoyed it and hubby thought it was a really neat touch!

The 'kiddie' pool which is near the petal pool is fabulous as well ... just a very shallow gradually deepening 'bowl' with water bubblers that jet up fairly gently around the perimeter. I'd say the water goes from 0" at the edge to maybe 8" or so in the middle. Life vests are available at each pool. Towels are not ... bring your own beach towels from home or take your room towels to the pool. You can request extra towels from housekeeping if needed.

There's also a 'bowling pin' shaped pool, a square 'computer' pool and Goofy's water jet area. None of these are as themed or have all the special features like the more expensive resorts, but for basic pools to play in and get wet they are fine. My kids would love water slides and water falls and volcanos and all that jazz, but I don't think it's worth paying twice as much for a room just to have those things (but of course you get more than just a nicer pool at the nicer resorts, so I'm not knocking them, I'm just thinking of just specifically the 'pool per $$$ value' for our family.)

The room truly is a basic 'motel' room ... two double beds (or one king), a nightstand w/ alarm clock & phone, a small table with two chairs, a plain entertainment cabinet to house the TV and provide drawers and shelves for storage, an open vanity/closet area and a small toilet/tub area with a door. There are several nice wood hangers in the closet area, some with skirt clips. There was a data port under the table and one in the side of the phone for dial up (not high-speed) internet access if you bring a laptop. Nothing extra, nothing all that special ... but a clean room that was big enough for us for the small amount of time that we actually spent in the room. We went with friends and had connecting rooms ... the girls really loved going back and forth between the two rooms and getting to play in both.

The in-room 'ammenities' are limited ... bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths, shampoo, facial soap bar, bath soap bar, plastic cups with the ice bucket, an iron and ironing board, safe. No lotion/shower gel/hair conditioner, no dirty laundry bag, no hair drier, no drinking glasses, no coffee cups, no coffee maker, no microwave, no fridge (unless you pay $10/night). I didn't care about the toiletries ... I always bring my own stuff anyway. We would have really liked to have had a coffee maker in our room ... and a fridge would have been nice too, but even without these things we had cereal with milk each morning. We brought a cooler and lots of frozen bottles of water for taking into the park) and this kept the milk cold all night and part of the next day till it was all gone.

We didn't eat in the food court very much, but I did grab a cheese danish and coffee :drinking1 to take with me as I drove to my conference one morning and later that morning the rest of the group ate a very very late breakfast before going to the pool. The breakfast pastries in the food court were DELICIOUS ... and my 13 yr. old son raved at great length about the Fritata he had for 'brunch' one day. The girls enjoyed Mickey waffles. Drinks are expensive $1.99 for a cup of coffee ... but the food really is not that outrageously priced. ($3.99 for a kiddie breakfast of two Mickey waffles with bacon ... I'm not sure about the 'adult' portions.) We drank bottled water, capri suns and soft drinks which we brought with us most of the time, but I did give in an buy a cup of coffee one morning. Hubby bought a pinacolada on the rocks at the Petal's pool bar one night and reported that it was good. It cost $4.75 which to me seems about normal for a mixed drink ... not cheap but not hugely inflated.

Nothing in our room looked 'worn out' or battered or dingy. The room was clean, bright, and in good shape. Mousekeeping left washcloth animals in our window for the kids which delighted them. We also saw real live bunnies in the bushes as we walked along the sidewalk to our vehicle one night!

The busses seemed to be running like clock work. We took them everywhere and had no trouble and no super long waits. We rode on busses that were completely full with folks standing, but we also rode on busses on which we were the only family on the entire bus. Heck, I rode from Animal Kingdom to the TTC one time and was the ONLY passenger on the bus!! It did seem to me that the POP bus stop was usually the FURTHEREST from the gate at most of the locations ... meaning a noticeably longer walk, for example, from Epcot's gate area to the bus stop than from the gate to the stop for the more expensive resorts. It may just be coincidence, but I found it to be true at many different locations. And honestly it makes sense ... I don't think Disney is 'punishing' us 'cheapskates' but it does seem logical that they would want to make things most convenient for the guest who are paying the most money to be on site.

Now, if I ever find a fantastic super great deal on a more expensive resort, I'm sure I'll jump at it. But if we can get POP for $60-$70 and our next closest option is $130+ ... then we'll definitely be back at the POP! In the past for various work related trips and family vacations, I've stayed in everything from super luxury country club golf resort hotels to bare bones budget econo motels ... so I think I can appreciate the POP from a balanced point of view ... I'm not spoiled to only having the best in travel, but at the same time I'm not viewing it only from a 'motel 6' perspective. Anyway ... We enjoyed the time we spent there.

I'm no Disney expert, but if I can answer any questions or share any of our experience to help anyone else decide on whether or not to give POP a try, I'll be happy too! :cheer2:

Just so you know for a future trip, you can request a hair drier. Just give housekeeping a call, and they'll bring one up for you. It's complimentary, and you can keep it for the duration of your stay. :)

The main reason is that the value resorts will often times have the larger lines. If you put the big crowds at the beginning of the area, it blocks walkways to the further stops. In the big scheme of things, it's not a huge difference in walking distance, although at the end of the night it might appear that way.

I know check in time is 3pm, but should we try to get there earlier to get a good room? I was thinking about taking DS out of school early so we can get up there sooner.

My guess is that your room will already be 'reserved' regardless of what time you arrive. If you're early you can 'pre' check-in and may or may not be able to get into the room ... if you're late getting there they'll hold the room for you, but either way it will probably be the same room.

One advantage of getting there early would just be to have a little more time to relax and unwind if it's a long drive. We drove all day on Friday to get there, and went to MK on Saturday ... if I have it to do again, we'll add an extra day just to hang out at the pool, maybe go to DTD for ice cream, etc. *before* the first day we go to the parks. It seems like the kids had a MUCH better time on Sunday than they did on Saturday ...and I think it was mainly because they were just tired from the long ride.

Personally, I didn't mind at all keeping my 1st grader out of school on a Friday and the following Monday ... not a huge deal at that age, in my opinion. I mean I wouldn't do it 'all the time' but for a once a year trip, it didn't hurt anything in my opinion. On the other hand, my 8th grader may have missed a good bit and he has a lot of work to make up and in-class notes to try to get. A lot may depend on the individual child, their academic level and even their teacher's attitudes. I know my son's teachers seemed more accepting of his missing several days for a trip to London last year than the teachers this year did for Disney. It might just be that London seemed more of an 'educational' oportunity and Disney is just all 'fun' but I was really surprised at how 'sour' one of his teachers seemed about the 'missing two days' issue.

Oh well ... we had fun! And he's a smart kid ... he'll jump right back on top of school stuff!

ElaineHN, which building did you stay in?

I was also wondering about check in. If you check in late, are you pretty much guaranteed to not get your requests?

We were on the first floor in the 50's bldg (w/ rooms 1100-1400 ... so bldg. 1, I think?) We had not requested a specific room or building. We arrived super early on our check in day (We had to stay at an off site hotel the night before because I couldn't get the first day of our stay at the POP or any of the value resorts) ... I'm thinking we arrived about 9:00 am and I was able to check and get our key cards, etc. but we couldn't get into our room that early. We could have checked our luggage and they would have delivered it to our room, but instead we just left it in the van. We took the bus to the Magic Kingdom and enjoyed the day ... then we came back to the POP in the evening and unloaded the van.

I could be 100% wrong, but I honestly think that the room assignments are made up ahead of time *IF* you make a special request with your reservation, I don't think they just stick you in a room according to what time you check in ... but if you don't make any specific requests perhaps they do just do it on a first come/first served basis. I would think, whether or not special requests which are made ahead of time can be honored, would be more a matter of when the request is made and your deposit paid, not when you check in to the room. But again, that's just my understanding of things, maybe someone could call and ask an actual guest services rep. and report back?!?!?

Good Luck!
Elaine

Some rooms are pre-blocked (usually the ones with requests) but the majority of the rooms are unassigned, and get assigned upon check in.
