And it's worth "it" to join AAA just for the original benefits of that organization. Travel discounts are simply among the additional perks offered.

Absolutely none. In fact, you can only find out your room number at checkin IF it's ready for occupancy. Otherwise, the CM will give you a card with a number to call after 3 PM to get your room number. There's NO way anybody will tell you the room number BEFORE you arrive. They can't.

This is standard practice at all hotels. They will not give you a room number until the room is yours and you can walk in there. Otherwise, they'd be afraid of having guests knocking on the door and asking the current family when they are leaving. I'm not saying that anyone here would do this, of course! I'm just giving the reasoning behind why they will not give you a room number until that specific room is ready for you to use it.

Now...........What are the chances that a room will be ready for us as early as a 10:00 AM check in? If a room is ready and I'd rather have another building, are the cms at Pop pretty flexible with reassigning you a room that will become available later in the day?

I'm 26 days away from dancing in the jet pops! :goodvibes

Has anyone stayed at Pop since the change in prefered? I was just wondering if the prefered is really worth the 100+. We were there in April in the 70's and it just didn't seem worth it then.

I go to WDW twice a year and have rarely stayed on-site. I visited POP last month to just check things out, I fell in love with the whole place. Ate at the food court (the sun dried tomatoe calzone was heavenly!) and was detrmined to stay here next trip. I can't thank you all enough for all the helpful info.

I started yesterday morning (at about 2 am) stressing over having to turn a 21 day reservation 10/27 thru 11/17 into 3 seperate reservations 10 days, 10days, 1 day to get the AP rate...I was so nervous I wouldn't get POP for the whole time....well after many hours back & forth on the phone with my TA and much laughter we did it!
:cool1:

Saved $451.71 over the original rack rate at initial reservation, which as far as I'm concerned Disney just handed me a free year of AP renewal  then I bought the MNSSHP ticket for the night I wanted ..the day I arrive.. so excited I have never been at WDW at the RIGHT time for anything in over 20 years and now I will be there for it all! :woohoo:

MNSSHP...MVMCP...Soap Weekend..Epcot Food & Wine...all going on when I'm there!! I just wanted to share the joy!!

SOME rooms in the 50s, 60s and 70s are now designated "Preferred". OTHER rooms in these seven buildings, along with ALL the rooms in the 80s and 90s, are "Standard". Remember, you can request anything (floor/building/section/view/etc) but you're guaranteed only a room with the designation for which you paid. That said, Disney does its best to grant all requests.
Re: smoking-optional: See page 108 of THIS thread for building numbers.

Does anyone know how many rooms are standard in the 50's, 60's, and 70's? I don't mind not being in a preferred room, but I really want to stay in one of these sections, I just like the theming better  How do you make a request for a section? Call them directly or with your ressies? Thanks!

I don't know how many rooms are preferred, but you simply make your request when you call to make your reservation. The CM will note your preferences on your ressie. If/when I need to call back about a ressie, I always ask to make sure my preferences are still noted.

Just remember - it is simply a request, not a guarentee. :sunny:

My family (DH, DS7, DD4mos) and I are headed to Pop! next month & I would like to know from other families that stayed in one room together what types of things that you brought with you to keep your your room organized. I have seen mention of a shoe hanger for accessories in the bathroom - something I never would have thought of! Any other great "tried and true" ideas? I am getting so excited & I have to start channeling my excitement to preparation! :thumbsup2

Oy, did you just give me an idea!!! DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME, or ANYWHERE - it's a JOKE! Arriving Guests could scope out the resort and, on determining which room location looks good to them, knock on the door and ask the resident if they're checking out that day. If they are, the arrivals can request that room, saying they KNOW it's becoming available that day. If not, the new arrivals can repeat the process at nearby rooms until they get an affirmative answer. Or no, wait! Like the stroller hand-off - Disers checking out the day other Disers are checking in to a given resort could call the arriving Guests and tell them what room to request!

Disclaimer: Any moderator may delete the above if any think it's inappropriate, aka, someone may actually try it.

Yep. I prefer - I mean like... not to be confused with room-type designations - the fourth floor in the 70s because I'm partial to green, and each decade's building colors darken as you go higher. It's not a special effect, they used four different shades on each section.

We were there a few weeks ago in a 'non-preferred' room in a fantastic location. We were in the 70's building, just behind the Mickey phone, 1st floor, 2nd room back from the "T". I was shocked that this was not a preferred location. It was super convenient and close to everything. I didn't do anything to request this location, just was really nice to the CM when we checked-in.
:thumbsup2

Let's talk about the laundry rooms. Are they generally crowded at all times? I'm hoping to do laundry on a Friday around lunchtime. I'm hoping most other people will be in the parks. Are there laundry room hours?

I am getting so excited about Pop. My ds likes the look of the 80s section. My dd is a Lady & the Tramp fan and wants the 50s section, and I'm eyeing the 70s because of location and I think it might be slightly quieter without a pool right outside the rooms. I guess any section is a winner for us. :)

OT--Ruthie, your dog is beautiful!

Just got back home from the Pop on Tuesday and boy am I depressed! :sad1:

Tell us more! Which building did you stay at? How were the bus services? Was it crowded? Don't leave us hanging here...... :)

Now you'll have to plan for another Pop trip someday so you don't get the post-trip blues.

We have requested a King room and it has a non-smoking guarantee on it and a medical refrigerator noted. We also requested to be connected to our other room with two doubles. Do these requests usually get a handicaped room? We don't have to have one, but just wondered.

I know, I was just there in MAY and have no trips planned, and have MAJOR post-trip blues!!! <see link to my trip report for lots of details about our GREAT stay, including pix, at POP>

Ok, ok...I guess I should have given more details. Sorry! :confused3

We were in the 80s building, 3rd floor, facing the pool...we were a little miffed by that because we requested the 60s building with ajoining rooms on the 1st floor, because there were small children in our group. The walk to the buses and food court was quite a trek at first, but we got used to it very quickly! :thumbsup2

The buses were great, didn't have to wait very long and we only had to stand up for 2 bus rides during our week long visit...we were psyched about that! :dance3:

We had gone to the World the same time last year and noticed how much more CROWDED :crowded: it was this year....I know this is because of the DDP. popcorn::

We won't be going again until 2008...what am I gonna do?! :confused3 Won't be staying at POP in 2008 though. I really loved it there, but I'll be going with a bigger group, so we're thinking about villas.

If you have any more questions, I'll be happy to answer them! :thumbsup2
