That's great! My dd (age 4) and I are going down in October for a mommy/daughter trip and I'm keeping it a surprise this time. Last year, I told her 9 months in advance and she asked me every single day if it was November yet. :rotfl:

We're getting really excited. Only 9 more days!

How's the food at the food court. I was thinking about eating dinner there the first day since we won't be going to any parks that day.

I actually like many of the foods there.. like the Twinkie Teramasu. that was good. I thought the tie die cheesecake was kinda bland though.

Our trip is just myself and my DD3. She knows that we are going but has no concept of time. We made a change link and take away one link everyday. It seems to be helping. I am not being asked everyday like before our last trip. I hope you have a great time and look forward to hearing how it goes. I am a little nervous about traveling by myself with a 3 year old.

Debbie

I'm a little nervous too, but I have a nonstop flight, a town car to POP, and I know I can take it form there! DH wants us to tell DD SUnday or Monday so he can say goodbye! (He told me this last night!)

Can't wait to try POP! I think it will be perfect for our trip!

I took my dgd4 a few years ago and didn't tell her until we got up that morning to leave. The day before she had asked me what we were going to do the next day and I told her I was taking her to a park. I just didn't tell her the park @ WDW.
I had gotten up to get dressed and put a few things in the car when she woke up. It was about 5:00am. She said "grandma, what are you doing up so early"? I told her "remember how I said I was taking you to the park today"? Then I proceded to explain what park I was taking her too and the plane ride ect. To say she was excided is an understatement.

I think it is better with small children not to tell them too soon as they don't understand the concept of time. I have taken her twice since then and she say's the time that I surprised her was the best way to go.

That is so cool. We took our DDs (2 & 4) in Jan and didn't tell them until we pulled into the Pop to check in. We drove and just told them that we were going to a hotel with Grandma & Grandpa and they were thrilled. When oldest DD realized where we were she couldn't stop talking. It was so worth it!!

Hi everyone! I am so happy to have found this forum. I am planning a trip for my family for the first week of August and looks like POP will be perfect for our family. We have a 14 yo, 4 yo, and a 20 month old.

I know a lot of room recommendations have been posted....just wondering what you recommend for a great view for the kids, but quiet for the babies naptime and convenient for our tired legs at night?

Also, where do most of you make your reservations? I am considering getting adjoining rooms so we're not all piled into one room. Where do I get info on that?

OK - one last question, I promise! My DH is concerned that there is no kitchenette and that food will be a major expense. Any advice on that? Can we bring a microwave as well as the request for the fridge?

THANKS TO EVERYONE who can share a little guidance to this much overwhelmed mom!

I don't think microwaves are allowed for safety hazards, but you may want to call Pop directly to ask. Their direct number is (407) 938-4000.
If you'd like to book directly through Disney, call their CRO at (407) 824-8000. :flower:

Pop is so much fun, your family will love it. Make sure you ask for "Connecting" rooms if you want them to have a door inbetween. I asked for "adjoining" rooms and got just that, two rooms right next to each other. Wasn't a huge issue, but it would have been easier if they opening up to each other.

As for naps, my youngest (2) took a nap every day and didn't have a problem sleeping. We were on the 4th floor, maybe that helped. The rooms are really dark when you close the curtains. Perfect for sleeping.

To save money on food, we brought pbj lunchables for the kids. They don't need to be kept cold. We never ate out for lunch. The adults would eat a big breakfast and then snack before a big dinner. It can work if you're creative. Have fun!!

There is not a microwave in the room, and you can not take one, but there is a microwave at the food court.

As for food expenses, it can be expensive. Keep in mind that buffets are free for your little one, so that will help a bit. A website that will help you with the food, and menus is www.allearsnet.com Deb has many menus, for sit-down rest, as well as counter service. I think you will like it, and the info will help you know how to budget for food.

We usually bring breakfast items for the room. Cereal, pop tarts, bagels, yogurt, cheese, fruit. It is def. a money savings, but also just quicker, and easier in the morning. We never rent a fridge- too expensive. We just always get a cooler, either take a collapsible one, or a styrofoam one at the grocery once we are there. Keeps things fine. Bring a couple of rubermaid containers so things won't get water-logged.

Good luck, and have fun planning. :sunny:

There are great ideas for helping with food expenses on the budget boards! My favorite is sharing meals. Ask for the double cheeseburger meal with an extra bun and two of you can eat! Most times they won't even charge for the bun! Good luck. :wizard:

Thank you all! My DH is worried about not having a kitchenette, but we will manage I'm sure....noone else seems to have any problems. Hmmm...share a cheeseburger - thanks for the tip! I'll also be sure to pack plenty of snacks and water.

Any other tips for staying at Pop - I am going to get connectng rooms as mentioned above, just so the kids can have their own room and the little ones can get to bed and we won't disturb them. Of course, that's upping the price to $200/night. So, therefore we need to save where we can.

What's the dining plan all about? I've seen it referenced several times, but don't know what that means.

Thanks!
Kathy

I noticed that you said you would be paying $200 a night for two rooms, which leads me to believe you don't have a discount code for your room. Watch www.mousesavers.com for general public codes that can be used by anyone to save some money on your room. They don't always release these, but keep checking daily, as they are limited and will run out fast. If you don't get one you can also save with a AAA membership sometimes as well. It also depends on the time of the year you are going. I just feel you might be able to get a little bit better rate than what you have now. Good Luck!

Hi! Does anyone how far in advance you can resquest an upgrade?? Its our honeymoon and would like to request a room in the 70's section - not sure how far in advance I can go. We can't wait to go - we got our disney wedding ears today!!! - Only 48 days left to go!!! If anyone has an recommendations for restaurants - it would be greatly appreciated!!! We will be traveling with our grown children and grandkids. The kids range from 16 mos. to 9 yrs. I know for breakfast for the kids the parents have bought cereal and pop tarts and fruit. We have planned on buying milk and fruit at our store stop on the way to the hotel. For the baby we bought oatmeal in individual container's. We just add water and can heat it in the mic. in the food court. I have packed a collapsible cooler on wheels. Last trip I had a collapsible cooler with no wheels and it didn't work out very well when it came time to put ice in it. It was too heavy to carry. Just some ideas.

Definitely go to Le Cellier. It was one of our favorite meals of the trip. Of course you also want to go to Cindy's Castle. Oh, I'm so jealous! Hoping to have my honeymoon there someday. Have a great time!! :)

P.S. PM me and I'll tell you what room we were in and send you some pics if you'd like. It was a great view and location in the 70's section.

We're wondering what size of milk it will hold, in addition to some of other fridge items...

TIA!

a room in the 70s would not be an ugprade. thats still a regular room(even though I prefer the 70s location to the 60s) :love2:
