The Groovy New Pop Century FAQ Thread!

DD7 is an avid fisherkid (catch and release). I read on this thread that you can fish from the shore at POP.

Questions: What is there to catch (she usually catches sunfish) in the lake at POP?
We will be flying, therefore, no way to bring her fishing gear. Can we rent DD7 equipment anywhere at POP?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Suzy V.

There is no equipment to rent. Not sure what kind of fish are in there, but I wouldn't expect much.

You can only fish from the shores, not Generation Gap Bridge. I should warn you that the shore lines are very steep, and the water drops right off.

Thanks for the quick reply. To tell you the truth, I am glad they do not have rental equipment. We live on the lake and DD7 fishes tons already. If she was able to fish at WDW, I'm afraid she would prefer that then going to the parks.

We are looking to book connecting rooms and would like a K/Dbl.Dbl. Am I right when I look at the room layouts that there are no standard King rooms on the 4th floor? It looks like they are all accessable rooms on the 4th floor. That is fine but then I won't ask for a 4th floor room.

Also--my son has severe food allergies and we were wondering if we could get a fridge to keep his soy milk/yogurt cold or would we have to pay for it?

Thanks a ton :flower:

The only king rooms on the 4th floor will be the accessible rooms with a shower. Standard kings with tubs are only found on 1-3. All kings will connect to a dbl/dbl with standard tub regardless of standard or accessible king.

Fridges for medical reasons are complimentary.

Pop Century will be a “Magic On Demand” resort. (MOD will be based out of Zone 5)
What is "Magic on Demand?" I searched the board but couldn't find anything.

I have a preferred room booked for my upcoming trip. I would love a view of Illuminations. I have looked at the map, and don't understand exactly why a lake view room in the 50's or 70's would have a view, but the 60's wouldn't... Can anyone help me understand?? :earsgirl:

Last year we stayed at the Pop Century and purchased the free-refills drink mugs. We are going back this year (next week, Feb 2-9, 2005) and I was wondering if they were still good for free refills. Thanks. ::MickeyMo

timandlesly and bacibecky: Thanks for the advice. I change my reservation to stnd room and the CM was so super nice :earsgirl: She put on my request to be near transportation & food court and that I was traveling alone with small children.

I've got tons of questions. Is anyone else iced in this morning? Even our church services are canceled. so I'll fire away some ??? hoping someone else is home.

1. My girls love to swim. Should I pack beach towels? At the poly they had large towels at the pool but I don't know about that at the Pop. (I hope it will be warm enough!)

2. Our first day we will arrive at the Pop around 10 am. Should we eat at the food court or head straight out to a park and eat there? (we have 5 day ph for the girls so I need to use them each day as I didn't get the non-expiration type)

3. What is your recommendation on transportation to MK?

4. I smoke, but not inside or near my children. I don't want to smoke around other people's children either. Is there a place at the Pop where I can sit without being in someone's way? (ie. at home I go out on our back porch; at the park I sit on a far away bench where I can still see my girls, but the smoke is my own problem, not everybody's around me)

I've got more, but that will do for now
Thanks,
Shellie

I have a feeling the refillable mugs get reissued every year and you will need to purchase another one for 2005. Maybe someone else could confirm this?

Hi, Shellie! :wave2:

1. My girls love to swim. Should I pack beach towels? At the poly they had large towels at the pool but I don't know about that at the Pop. (I hope it will be warm enough!)
The POP does not supply pool towels, but you can call for extra so when you get back from the pool you'll have fresh towels. Just ask them to leave them in the room.

2. Our first day we will arrive at the Pop around 10 am. Should we eat at the food court or head straight out to a park and eat there? (we have 5 day ph for the girls so I need to use them each day as I didn't get the non-expiration type)

You all might be excited to get going and as you know, there are lots of counter choices, depending on which park you hit first. The POP food court will probably be quiet so that might be a nice way to begin -then when you get to the park you'll not have to stop right away to eat :)

3. What is your recommendation on transportation to MK? The POP buses are great and go directly to each park, no other stops!

There are tables with ashtray's near the pool and outside the food court. Since I don't smoke I just tried to sit a bit away from the folks who were enjoying their smoke! :)

Hope this helps! Send on the questions! That's what keeps us busy when we cannot be there ourselves!! :flower:

Well, not to start an old argument but... When you buy your refillable souvenir mug, it is for that current stay only. You are supposed to buy a new one each trip. :earboy2:

Any insight? Arriving at POP on Saturday, 2/12 ... reservation says "guaranteed nonsmoking and connecting rooms for families" .. does that mean "we are guaranteed connecting rooms"? I ask because the CM's conversation about not being able to "guarantee" and the reservation's note about "guaranteed" were different and makes me very nervous ... we are party of four .. DH and self requested king connecting with double for DS and DB .. DB is an adult, but would not be comfortable unless we had connecting rooms ...

As far as I know, the only guarantee is if the 2nd room only has minors in it, Disney places them at the top of the priority list. If you are disabled and have one of the disability access king rooms, basically the connecting two double bed room is set aside for you if you need it.
