The frustration I felt was that the flower pool kept closing due to little kids not wearing swim diapers and pooping in the pool. It closed 4 times in a half a day for about an hour each time. I felt bad for the lifeguards who have to clean it out.

This happened several times when we were there. Actually the first day we were there, it was closed for 8 hours and then hours here and there-can't they make them where swim diapers?

Wow! That would be frustrating. Last Sept, the pool was NEVER closed for accidents when we were swimming which was everyday, mid afternoon. Knock on wood, I hope we have that much luck again!

Why would a parent not use a swim diaper? I know if my child needed a swim diaper, wasn't wearing one & caused the pool to be closed for everyone, I'd feel awful & would be embarrassed.

Hello, all. Right off the bat, I have to tell everyone that I am reading the entire thread and after a week I'm on page 66. You guys sure can talk! I didn't want to wait until I reached the end to introduce my self, so here I am! Two girlfriends and I will be taking a Diva's trip to Disney in January. They haven't been since they were very young, but I am a Disney-holic. I've only stayed onsite once before and that was at AKL, which was amazing. But the three of us are trying to keep costs down, so Value it is! They say that the 70s building sounds like the most fun, but I'm curious to know which decade/building everyone prefers. It looks like the front building of the 70s is close to everything, but is that considered preferred? Also, has anyone experienced the lounge? If so, what was the atmosphere like? Any help/opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Also, I'm very sorry if I'm asking questions that have already been answered, but it's taking me a long time to get through this thread!

By the way - great thread! I'm learning so much and am very excited about giving this resort a try.

I don't mean this to sound wrong, but the difference from our visit last year compared to this year was that there were mostly foreign visitors and maybe swim diapers are not used in some other countries? Just a guess but it seemed like at least 75% foreign visitors. I also guess that the lifeguards can't judge who is potty trained and who isn't without insulting people by telling them their child needs one?

We just got back from POP and were disappointed. We loved the theme of the resort and the resort itself, but our rooms were very gross! We had adjoining rooms in building 1, 50's building. Room 1454 smelled so bad of smoke, we had mousekeeping come in 3 times to spray the room. Room 1455 had stain all over wall by table. I asked mousekeeping if they could try to wash it (wasn't sure if it was a fresh stain or old). It did not come off. It covered at least a 5 foot area, maybe it was soda or something that was sprayed all over wall? My DS spilled his juice on the bedspread and I called mousekeeping to let them know and ask if it could be washed and we get a new one. We went 4 days without a bedspread!! I finally went to front desk to ask for a bedspread! I really felt like I was staying in a really bad run Motel 6! And I couldn't even get an AP rate and paid full price. Our first night was at Comfort inn LBV for $45 a night and the room was in better shape than Pop. I know we could have asked to be moved, but we had already moved from DVC stay at BC and my DH and i were traveling with 7 kids! the last thing we wanted to do was move again. We figured we would not be in the room alot so we dealt with it.

We have stayed at all of the All Star resorts and loved them. I think we will be going back to one of those.

Wow, sorry to hear you had a bad experience with it. We recently said in room 1312, same building one floor down, and we loved it. We had no problems with our room being clean and our mousekeeper would leave us towel animals as well as extra towels and such.

Yikes!! We requested the 50's section! DD loves Lady. Are the 50's buildings former smoking rooms?

I don't know if they are or not but we didn't smell any smoke in our room and we were in the same building just one floor down. We loved this location! I think that you will be fine there.

We have only stayed in the 50s building C so we are partial to that one. We have always faced the lake and you have a decent view of some fireworks and Spaceship Earth (from the 3rd or 4th foor). That being said, I don't think any building is far from the Classic hall or the bus stops.

We did have the most wonderful mousekeeper this trip. I was so thrilled after having one last year that didn't clean well, wouldn't leave extra towels when asked, and the kicker was she actually stole from us. Concierge would not believe us about it though.

It might be better if Pop would pass-out free swim diapers to families w/ toddlers.


Which building were you in? Did you tip mousekeeping? If so , how much and how often?

Thanks to all for good questions & good answers! I've been a sideliner, reading lots, but finally had to reach out to my fellow Poppers for an answer to a question. We are leaving for Pop in 10days!

I've been reading this thread, got to page 105, and okay here now.

This is how I drink coffee in the morning

Can anyone tell me if they serve Plain Cream, Coffee Mate Cream or International Coffee Cream at the food court? I prefer use liquid, not the powdered stuff, and if the coffee is as bad as everyone states.... okay, I may be grumpy. And it may be a very, very long week.

Yeah free swim diapers would be nice but one for each child each time they go in the pool would cost them a fortune. As it is they are already paying the lifeguards who have to clean it so it doesn't cost them to close it to clean it.

We were in the 60's prefered and got poolside in the baloo building. It was awsome and the closest we have ever been to everything. DS loves the pool so we liked it for that reason most. We have stayed in the 70's and 60's buildings in the past and really didn't feel any location was too far from everything. It is really nice that there are 3 pools as well so there is always a pool nearby.

For mousekeeping we tipped $3 per day for 2 of us and then I found our mousekeeper our last full day there and gave her a note thanking her and telling her how welcome she made us feel. I gave her another $20 then just for the fact that she made us feel so at home and cared for. Honestly, it was worth more than that even.

We have stayed on Disney property a total of 50 nights over the years and never had a housekeeper any better than any other hotel and the one time it was the worst ever. This year was the best of any stay anywhere. Our mousekeeper was one of a kind that's for sure.

I will be checking in on the same day as you are and at the same resort.

All the buildings are fun and I am sure you will love the 80's. The computer pool is right there with rubic cubes for stairwells and a giant walkman and giant Roger Rabbit in the center of each building. To get to the busses you just cut through the parking lot and they are right near there. You are going to love it.

Your in luck it is liquid creamer in a machine so I am not sure what kind but the machine might have regular milk in it? Then I think I saw small regular creamers in a bowl as well.

Personally, I like the coffee but I am not a starbucks drinker. I like regular old school coffee from a can. lol If you like, this is what I do to give the coffee a bit more flavor: Add a bit of hot chocolate to the coffee. If you like chocolate it tastes wonderful and it might take your mind off the fact that it is not strong coffee if that's the way you like it.

I'm glad to hear you like it so much! We're just so completely stoked at the idea of even going to WDW. To have such a fun place to stay will be the icing on the cake!

So is all this talk of "poopy pools" really that common? Right now i'm dealing with a new dog that thinks cat poop is a yummy treat. The thought of any poop problems on vacation kinda makes me ill!

We've always had good luck with Mousekeeping at Pop. As a matter of fact, we came home with the e-mail address of our mousekeeper from last year. Her boyfriend was Goofy at Chef Mickeys and we sent her some great photos of him in action. Very nice college kid working her way through school. She did a great job on our room every day - per our request vacuumed every day and left us twice the usual number of towels. Not to mention that we came home with bags of Mickey soap (I donate it each year to our local abuse shelter - the kids really love it!)

We've requested bldg. 1, 50's Lady. Theres 5 of us: Mom, Dad, big brother9. little brother5, princess 20mos.

How much should we leave if we like the service?
Where did you leave it? - on the bed or table?
Just the cash or in an envelope?
Do they cahnge the pillowcases while you're there? - I'm bringing an allergy cover for little brother, it went missing last trip (off-site).

We stayed there for 2 weeks last year and had a great time! Did you know that at Halloween you can go Trick or treating at Pop! Yup we did it! We stayed in the 70's section and on many mornings last October we woke up to hot air balloons going overhead. They were beautiful! We can't wait it go back next month!

We've always left MouseKeeping a little introductory note and made our special requests that way. I don't think they'll take the money unless you put it in an envelope or put a note on it - they'd have no way to know it was meant for them otherwise. We always print up the envelopes at home - one for each day.

Tipping is a personal choice. There are usually two or three of us in the room so I generally leave $5 per day.

I've stayed in the 60's Playdoh bldg & in the 50's Tramp bldg. I liked both !I might try the 70,s next May, but when we all go it will be the 60's DD loves being close to the Hippy Hoppy Pool!!I had an awesome mousekeeper called Sue the first time we went. When I went solo I barely saw my mousekeeper but she did agreat job, no towel animals like Sue gave us. You do have to leave anote that ti[p is for them or they won't take it !!

Yes, the rule is swim diapers for kids who aren't potty trained, but as I said before, the problem was not with the diaper kids, but potty trained kids. The yjust have accidents. The water makes them have to go and they don;t want to stop playing. The bartender was talking to my DH about this and it happens quite often and rarely are the small kids.

Welcome. I have stayed in 70's and 60's. Liked them both, but loved the 60's more. We were poolside first floor and for us that was the best.

The lounge is no longer open. But the poolside bar, Petals still is.
