I feel really bad but I can't remember who offered to measure the width of the bathroom door for me during their stay at Pop. They said that they would add it to their list and I think they were going not long after they offered to do it for me.

So, any luck?

I think one of the reasons people complain about Pop is because to compare it to say a Best Western or a Super 8 Pop is lacking. Best Western and Super 8 are budget hotels that offer a fridge(bigger then the one you rent at Pop), microwave, coffee maker, queen beds in some rooms, free internet and a few others things for around the same price per night as a room at Pop. I like Pop but do wish they atleast included the fridge in the price of the room.

I say let those people complain so that there is always a room at Pop for me!

I'll pick Pop over a Best Western or Super 8 any day because of 1 thing: I know what I'm getting. Best Western is franchised, so while one Best Western could be absolutely gorgeous, another could be falling apart. The amenities might be similar, but you can go from really large rooms to small rooms. From new hotels to ones that haven't been renovated since '85. Plus, you don't know when that hotel may suddenly change owners, so it's hard to rely on reviews from 2 years ago.

Super 8s...while there might be some that are nice, it still has that stigma of being in the same category as a Motel 6. While I'm sure the majority are nice, I'm not willing to take a chance (even in the days of Trip Advisor) so I'll always pay more for consistency in a hotel, even if I technically "get" less. It's why I go out of my way to stay at Courtyards, Fairfields, and especially Hampton Inns when I travel for work. Same idea with the Disney owned hotels. When I check into any category of a Disney hotel, I know what I am getting. And if for some reason I don't get that, I know I can go back to the front desk and they will take care of me.
I'll pay more for that every time.

What's funny, is that if you do your homework, many times, you don't have to pay more for it!!

...and thanks to the person who mentioned putting a review on Trip Advisor. I always do when I come back, but I forgot. I'll do that now!

If I request a ground floor room-- can we hear the people above us?

what about next door to our room- will we hear the TV's and talking?

I am so excited! I just got the mail from the box and I had Mickey Mail inside! :woohoo: Only 29 days until I'm at Disney and staying at Pop! :woohoo:

That was me... I'm so sorry I completely forgot to post when I got back. I did measure the door and I wrote it down, somewhere. I just looked thru my vac. info real quick and didn't see it. I can look more carefully tonight. I know it was a little over an inch, but I'll get back to you with the exact measurement. Again sorry.

No problem! I totally forgot too.

In case anyone is interested to have a look I put a Pop review in tripadvisor.com, to try and neutralise those reviews that give the Pop a bad rap for simply being what it is - a VALUE resort.

I got annoyed with people complaining the rooms are small, they have no fridge, they have no restaurant, there's only pizza for room service, my room was miles from the Main hall, my girlfriend and I wanted some romantic private time and there were kids everywhere, whine whine whine etc etc.

What do they expect for what they pay? It's a budget hotel.

If they want pampering, go to a pampering luxury resort. The advertising material for the Pop doesn't pull any punches about what is and is not available. It doesn't say "24 hour room service, with fridge and coffee maker in every luxury suite" and then not deliver.

Maybe if those of us who love the Pop put more positive reviews on we could lift it's rating?

Anyway, just my 10 cents worth. Have a magical day! :wizard:

I wholeheartedly agree with you. You're totally right, Pop doesn't pull any punches about what it is, it's a value resort. We've been there twice, and we'll stay there again. Maybe someday with the right discount we'll stay at a Moderate again, or maybe even a Deluxe... 'till then, we'll stay at Pop. Oh, and I'll take Pop over a Motel 6, Best Western, Holiday Inn, or the like *any day.* Heck, I'd even choose Pop over a moderate with a discount, there's not that big of a difference!

We were on the 2nd floor. I did hear people shuffling around and the door to (what I'm guessing) the bathroom be shut-slammed I guess. But I didn't really hear TVs or people talking. I know the room next to ours was occupied. I think we just had elephants above us

It wasn't that bad, I mean, we fell asleep right away and it didn't wake us. But for honesty's sake, it was there and I could hear people. It didn't bother me though.

Has anyone verified recently the condiments at the POP food court (ie: peanut butter, jelly, etc....) Just curious. Also, I've heard they have frozen cokes and that they don't have them any longer? Anyone been there recently that can tell us?

TIA

I would agree. We just got back yesterday and we were also on the second floor. I could hear more toilets flushing than our last trip when we were on the 4th floor, but it didn't bother us or keep us awake. I was on the lake side of building 4 and found it quite quiet.

But then everyone would want to stay there, and us devoted fans would never get in!! I think I might have to go add a review talking about what a dump Pop is. :thumbsup2

I was just there. I didn't use peanut butter or jelly so I don't know about that. They have a dispenser with ketchup, mustard and mayo though. And yes, the frozen cokes are definately gone - but I did enjoy the sweet tea that replaced it. Other non-soda choices were blue powerade and lemonade - along with coffee, hotchocolate and tea (I'm talking for the mugs) I don't know if there was milk available for the mugs or not - I didn't see it, but I may have missed it. There is milk available as a beverage choice with QS meals though.

Nope, there's no milk for the mugs. They also took out the apple juice that they used to have.

We just got back from our stay at Pop Century our first stay at a value in a long time. We had a great time. So much so we booked bounce back for next year for 10 days at pop with free dining. Yes you can hear toliets flushing and we had noisey neighbors. So yes I did get awaken every evening but went right back to sleep. Beds were super comfy much better than our POFQ beds in April. Never had a problem with buses even at park closing. Cast memebers were more friendly here than other resorts we have stayed at. We got our room request 60's section facing the lake. We had a veiw of a tree. But that was fine as long as I wasn't near the pool. We got 4 towel animals never have recieved one before this trip so that was a cool bonus. The cast members Halloween afternoon did the thriller dance in the food court very neat. My kids never missed the slide at the pool. I'm glad we tried it. My dh didn't want to stay at a value because we had a bad experience at one of the values one year. But he liked pop also. The only thing we missed was the double sink. I think if we ever upgrade it would be to a deluxe. We love POP.

I don't know if this has been previously posted, but when I was talking with the cashier at POP about the mugs (she wanted to make sure I'd get my money's worth since we were only going to be there two days - very sweet of her), she told me they had to get rid of the frozen coke machines because they broke down so often. So much so that they were losing money on them. That's why they have the tea machine, which our family prefers. And we did get our money's worth, too!

I agree 100% with Gina. I have been thinking about starting a thread encouraging others to stay away from Pop--don't want it overcrowded so that I can't get in ;).

BTW, how do I put someone's quote in???

At the bottom right corner of a post you will see a "reply" and "quote" buttons. If you want to reply to one post, hit the reply. If you want to reply to more than one post, click on the quote button - it will turn red to let you know that you've selected it to reply to. Then once you've selected all the posts you wish to reply to, hit the "reply" button and they will all magically appear in a Reply to Thread post.

Clear as mud?

What floor were you on? We were in building 4 facing trees (and the lake) on level 2. I hope we weren't the noisy neighbors :rotfl: I don't think so, we weren't there a lot. We went to the MNSSHP on the 27th as well. I didn't see a bounce back offer in our room :confused3
