Just back from a 10 night stay at POP. I'm going to do a bigger review, but had to do a quick post to say our stay was GREAT!

I cannot believe the service we received from all castmembers, but we were simply amazed by our mousekeeper. Her name was Matilda, and she was unbelievable. The room was immaculate, we were always given extra towels, soap, shampoo etc. and a few towel animals.

We have stayed at all levels of resorts over the years and I now place POP at the top of that list. I cannot overstate how happy we were with the place.

Oh, for reference, we did not do a room request, but got bldg 6 lake view which was fantastic!

More later in a trip report when I have time. :)

I can't wait to hear all about it!

Welcome back, Steve! So glad you had a great time! May I ask where you room was located - bldg # and floor? We've wonderful stays at POP with the exception of housekeeping - it has been horrible except once in the 50's bldg 2, pool view.

Looking forward to your review - pics too, we hope? :thumbsup2

Does anyone know when Disney will enter the 21st century and upgrade the TVs at POP? I realize it's a value resort, but it's Disney World, not a third-world country. :)

Actually, POP had better TV's than other resorts (including mods & deluxe before recent refurbs). POP opened the end of 2003 - we've always found the TV's fine! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the welcome back! We were on the 4th floor, lake view, 60's building, room 5419. (For the life of me I can't think of the building# but I'm thinking 5 due to the room#)? Either way, it was the last 60 building on the left if facing the main pool. Had baloo and mogley, forgive spelling, as the characters. We loved it. Also very, very quiet. I'm thinking being on the 4th floor helped!

Oh, wanted to add that we also had a bounceback offer in our room. Free dining for the August\sept. Timeframe. We booked 9 nights at AKL for August 23rd through Sept. 1st of 2010. We have never stayed there, and as much as we loved POP, are really looking forward to it! Besides, when our son and daughter get older, we will probably always stay at POP due to cost.

I've never been to POP but have been to WDW around the holidays. It is so pretty! If you get a chance, stop by the Grand Floridian and check out the gingerbread house. It's awesome!

We are actually having dinner two nights at the Grand Floridian. So we will be bye there at least twice. I hear Boardwalk is nice too.:santa:

That is a very peaceful location and handy to everything! We were on the pool side 4th fl, same bldg, last summer, but think the other side would be even nicer. Oh, yes and it is bldg 5. :thumbsup2

We had a fabulous stay at AKL the year it opened. We booked a std view (never heard of the DIS back then so knew nothing about possible views at AKL - we'd stayed at Poly and Cr many times and views were always great). Anyway....at check-in we were told we had been upgraded to a Savannah view, but we declined b/c we're not into Zoo's (concern for animal care etc) , but the CM convinced us to give it a try and assured us the animals were exceptionally well cared for. We still hesitated, but she said she would find us a good room and to please give it a try...sooo we did...well, I never wanted to leave the balcony! It was incredible! I am sure you will have a fabulous stay!! :woohoo:

Happy planning! :goodvibes

This is actually good to know. I booked a pool view, rather than Savannah, but have already been thinking about upgrading it. Just not sure if it will be worth the extra $5-600 for the stay. :scared1: Maybe I'll just keep the pool view, and pray for an upgrade. :goodvibes

Oh, yes, keep the pool view - but be sure to try get one with an actual view - some have nothing but trees and a slice of water (have also seen photos of really nice pool views). I read on the AKL thread that some pool view rooms can even see a bit of a Savannah - maybe you could research and request that end of the resort? We'd book a pool view at AKL in a heartbeat!

The TV's are fine it is thelimited choice of channels:lmao:
:lmao: At least POP is equal to all other Disney resorts in this "amenity"! :rotfl:

You are correct building #5 . I was on the opposite side near the kiddie pool RM#5110! A friend from DIS was on the other side under you in RM #5121 :goodvibes

Has anyone faxed in a room request (ex. location/bldg)? Or does POP not do that sort of thing? I may be staying there next month for the first time and am really lookimg forward to it :) Thanks

We've been there 3 times the first week of December and it is completely decorated, so I bet it is before Thanksgiving. :thumbsup2

Years ago we were at WDW for Thanksgiving and the decorations were to go up the next week, so we missed it, but now everything goes up earlier.

Funny, POP is one of our favorite resorts during the holidays - and we've stayed at Poly, GF, BC, POR, FQ etc etc...lol...something homespun and old fashioned about POP decorations - in a good way.

Couple of yrs ago we were at the Poly the same week and it was beautifully decorated - we still missed POP decorations and went over to visit.

:goodvibes :goodvibes: :goodvibes:

My favorite thing about Pop at Christmas time is hearing Christmas music being piped in over the grounds. Nothing like hearing "Rockin around the Christmas Tree......"!

I just changed our Jan/Feb 2010 trip from the Fort to POP. As much as I like the Fort, I love POP. I am almost home again

Oh yes, I'd like to know that!

Hello there! :) We stayed at the POP last year from 17 Nov -22 Nov and I remember it was Wednesday afternoon so that would make it the 19th of November the tree was up!! We left out to the parks in the morning and it was not in the lobby and much to our surprise when we came back in the afternoon it was there!! Throughout our week they were putting up the decorations little by little and it was the week prior to Thanksgiving. The Gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian also went up during our trip. We had a blast and can't wait for the next trip in a few weeks!! :cool1:

Hope this helps!
Heather
