I am at the 10 day check-in point.

I just did the online check-in. You can't reserve much, but that was ok with me. I have preferred reserved so I'm fine with any building/room. The only options you have for requests are :
1) ground floor
2) close to transportation
3) pack n play

The one plus I noticed to online check-in was the ability to use the "online check in" line. So I'm hoping that will make things go quicker as I'm arriving at 3 pm on a Friday and it'll be a busy lobby day.

Message I received after completing my check in online :
Thank you for submitting your information. When you arrive at your Resort hotel, remember to look for the Online Check-In Service logo at the front desk. Simply present your photo ID to receive your Key to the World card and Welcome Folder.

We checked in last Sunday and it was 4 PM, prime check in time and pretty busy. There was NO seperate line for online check ins. I did see a sign, but it was not in use then. (the sign was off to the side)

Wow...thanks for the head's up jenseib.....what was the point of my checking in online then I wonder ? I'll be sure to ask this question when I get there on Friday.......

Somethings I noticed.
The smoking section by the Petals bar is no longer there.
No more aplle juice at the fountains. I asked and the CM told me it must've just happened because she didn't even realize it.
No diet caffiene free pop at fountains. It was like that last March too, but I have heard others say they have seen it, so maybe it comes and goes?
If I think of other things I'll post them.

Welcome back! How was your trip?

I'm a smoker but I'm glad that smoking section is gone. It was too close to where everyone walked to get to the pool. I felt badly for families coming from the main building and either having to walk through the smoke or go way around it. :goodvibes

I faxed this year and last year 4 days prior and got exactly what I asked for. I was so happy.

here is my fax. It was pretty much the same both years, with small changes. I'll x out the personal info

Attention Room Assigner

Hello from Ohio! Brrrr!

I would just like re-confirm our reservation and see if you could possibly accommodate our room requests.
Our Reservation number is xxxxx. We are booked for March 8 -14, (celebrating my 40th birthday!). There are 3 of us, Dean xxxx, Jennifer xxxx, and Claire xxxxxxx (4 years old). We would really appreciate if we can get first floor (because we have a stroller and hate to hassle with elevators), poolside ( because Claire is quite the swimmer), and 60’s section ( because Claire loves the Jungle book),

If you have any questions my home phone is xxx-xxx-xxxx. My cell is xxx-xxx-xxx
Our home address is
xxx xxx xx
xxx xxxxx

Thanks you for your time and consideration. We are excited to be seeing you all soon!

Jen

If you want to be close to parking, not too far from buses and close to the jets, and playground, plus not far from the food court, 70's preferred would be good, but you won't see fireworks from there.

What number do you fax this too? It seems like I had heard that faxing room requests was looked down upon by those who assign the rooms, but if it works I'd hate to not try it. Thanks for sharing that!

Yes they have toasters, but not the standard slice type you put bread or an English Muffin into at home. These toasters are more like restaurant ones that will take your toast into it and run it through it. They also have microwaves at each beverage stand and butter and jam are available with the condiments.

Thanks!!:cool1: , I know the one your talking about that will work out fine.

Oh man  What's the point of the mugs if I can't have juice in the am and caffiene free or juice at night? Grrrrr

I have plenty of time for planning my options. I'm sure people will post more info as it becaomes available. Then I can decide if I have netgrocers or other deliver juice along with bottled water.

Darn it Disney!!

Welcome back, and thanks for the updates, Jen! I'll take some of your comments and place them in Post #1 within the next few days. BTW, I've also heard mixed experiences with the caffeine-free sodas.

Speaking of modifications in Post #1, I thought the question/answer about purchasing alcohol (besides Petals) was a great, so I added that to Post #1 yesterday. As always, thanks everyone for making contributions!

What number do you fax this too? ...

You'll find the number in Post #1. There's also a blurb or two about making preference requests, which I think I have under the "Making Reservations" section. :)

The week of MLK weekend is Feb break for many schools in the NE. It is known to be a busy weekend and week (meaning if you arrived the day after MLK it would be a very busy week).

If you meant the week following that, it would be quieter. :)

4th floor lake side is not a difficult request, but whenever you go, be sure to ask again at check-in if your request was able to be honored and if not, could they please check to see if there are any 4th fl rooms lake side available. Sometimes they give you a room that is empty, but if you're willing to wait a few hours then the room location you want may be available after housekeeping clears it for occupancy. :)

We've stayed in 4th floor rooms four times and the only time we ever heard noise was the one time we were bumped to a pref room location, overlooking the Hippy Dippy Pool. It was nice to be so close to the food court, but missed the lake view and would definitely request that again, should we return to POP. We had too many long weekend budget trips and am missing our favorite deluxe and moderates now. ;)

MLK is in Jan, not Feb. Are you thinking Presidents day? I know alot of schools have break then, but I don't know many that do it in Jan. Some people do go for a long weekend over the weekend of MLK, but I think the next weekend should be just fine.

As for the noise debate...I just got back yesterday from a 1st floor, 60's poolside room. I had one last year too, a few doors down. I noticed more noise this year than the other two, but still not much. I never notice other room noise, or only a hum of noise. never heard the famous toilet flush in the 3 times we've gone. I would hear some outside noise, but very minimal. After 11 or so it was for the most part quiet, and if it was bothering me after midnight, I would go out and say something (hasn't happened yet though).
the down side is at 8:30 in the monring they turn on the powerwashers to scrube the sidewalks and pool decks. The first morning it was plugged in right next to our room. I was up, but DH and DD were still sleeping and DH was having a fit. DD slept through it. 4 days later they had made full circle and were in front of our door again. this never bothered me, as I got up early each day, but for those who want to sleep in, this isn;t so great.

Everything Pop has a real good selection of merchandise for a resort store we have always thought. and I have bought many things there over the years. Never saw any comics though, but they do have a daily newspaper on the counter each morning for those who want the daily news. I was searching for a new hat last month and did a pretty thorough search of Everything Pop's merchandise.

thanks for the info! I can't wait to buy disney comics and a dvd of BOLT!

I always feel guests who have first floor rooms are brave! I've read about snakes, bugs and weirdest of all - white worms infesting a POP first floor room.. A couple of years back there was an entire thread about the white worms in rooms, luggage...even went home with a guest. Yuck!

In December 2005 we were coming out of the elevator near Tramp and there was rat sitting up on it's hind legs, nibbling something in his paws. I let out a squeal, but he didn't budge....relaxed as could be. He was right next to a 1st fl room..if someone had opened the door it could have run right in!

We stopped by guest services to report it, but the CM kept saying it must have been a rabbit!! We assured him that we truly knew the difference between a rat and a rabbit!! :rotfl:

Do be careful!

EEEK! LOL! I luckily have not seen any rats or worms. I've seen the million birds, rabbits, ducks, and and very few lizards actually at Pop. I'm sure they are around though.

I guess I've been lucky then because I've visited WDW 12 times and never seen a rodent and Mickey's the only mouse I want to see. The only things we've seen are the little lizards but I just know this time I'll be looking around a lot more closely:lmao:

Me too. I've not had any try to come in my room. But I did have a crow swoop down at me while I was eating breakfast out by the pool the other day and he took a stray peice of egg off my plate from my breakfast wrap.

That's not a bad price! You'll have to update us on what was in the bag :thumbsup2

I've seen them online with the celebrations stuff. They have basicallyjunk, and not much, there is one a little more that had more stuff in it and looked a little better.

I hope our family love to stay in the 70's and the 80's! Oh! One more thing does everthing POP sell any disney comics?

What do you mean by Disney comics? I've never seen any....anywhere...but maybe I'm misunderstanding you.

I'm slowly catching up and found that correction later on. LOL!

The trip was great. The weather was awesome. I'll be starting a trip report soon and I did take alot of pics. I think about 1500.

It's in the first post.

Ok this would be a major problem for me,I drink only Diet drinks!!:scared1: ,tell me this Is just a typ o:scared1:,I am diabetic and can not drink reg coke, most of the time.

The is regular diet coke, just not caffiene free. And light lemonade would be the other "diet " type drink. I noticed they had powerade fruit punch (i beleive) and I don't think that was there last year.

Eeeek this is sounding scary. I have never been to Florida before and I had no idea about the bugs and things.

We won't be in our room for long though - up and out to the theme parks first thing and then not returning until bed time is our plan.

Chances are you will not see anything more than some of the little lizards scooting across the walkways - I startle every time, but they are kind of cute and harmless. You are least likely to see any in your room, but rather outside.

Roaches do come out in hoards when the lights go out for a night time parade or fireworks, so good idea not to sit on the ground or steps near anywhere that sells food.

Florida is tropical and beautiful! Rats are due to the food dropped everywhere, but mostly because they live in palm trees. You will probably never see one - Disney has traps everywhere, where guests would not notice...boxes hidden in shrubbery.

A few yrs ago, when visiting California, we stayed a beautiful historic monastery, whuch was now a guest house. I was shocked to see ginat rat traps under little tables in the hallways!! The monks explained hoew rats nest in palm trees - I still love plam trees, but I don't lean against them anymore!! :thumbsup2

You will have a wonderful time!! Just know you might see a creepy crawley. If you do find something in your room, call for a room change and they will take care of that room. :)

:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Geesh, I totally forgot where you'd gone!! So glad you had a great trip and can't wait for a TR and lots of photos!

A CROW stealing food??

Welcome back!!
