The GROOVIER New Pop Century FAQ Thread Chapter 2! ~ Post #1 is a must see!

I have seen it mentioned before where someone says they called the week before their trip to request a certain room in a certain building. Does this really work? We are going down to the POP next week. We have booked preferred (which I have never done on the higher priced properties I have stayed at but for the extra change I thought we would try it at the Pop) for a couple of days. Thanks for the above link to the preferred room map. Since it will be cold(florida cold that is 45-65) when we are there, I would consider swimming in those bath-tub temperature pools if our room was close enough to get to after getting out.

So, re-cap. Have you ever made a request for a room at the POP, was it honored and should I try it?

Thanks all,

Maz :3dglasses:

So what would you recommend for a quiet preferred room? Do they pay attention to the faxed requests? I would like a woods view if we can get it so it at least seems a little quiet come bedtime. I sort of wish I hadn't requested preferred now, but since we're leaving in 9 days I think we'll just enjoy it and know better next time. TIA

January is a great time to go. My last 4 trips have been in January. I've stayed in standard rooms each time and they were all quiet.
- Lakeside 4th floor Bldg 6 on the side away from the 60's section.
- Woods side 1st floor Bldg 10, quiet except (rarely) when people walked past
- Lake side 2nd and 3rd floor Bldg 3

I'm looking at the map provided by Canadian Guy ( http://www.disboards.com/showpost.ph...31&postcount=2 ) who replied to you and notice several preferred locations that might be quieter.
- Bldg 10 the triangle facing Classic Hall and the Guest check in parking lot. It does face the playground, but I don't think that would be noisy at bedtime. I can't say for sure.
- Bldg 4 the angle facing Bldg 3
- Bldg 1 the angle facing Classic Hall and the parking lot.

All of these look like they would be quiet. I'd recommend the angles in Bldg 1 and 4 as first choices.

Also, I like the first floor for its convenience but the upper floors would have less foot traffic going past your door.

Hope that helps.

Enjoy your trip. I'm going to miss it this year. :sad2: Hoping for January 2010.

Good advice and you also don't hear those toilets flushing when you're on the top floor.

That's a great link. I didn't know that they had expanded the prefered are past the 60's. Shows how little I know. I really like staying in the jukebox bldg., 4th floor, facing lake. It never took me too long or seemed like a 'hike' to the food court but then I'm used to the 'hike' at SOG to/from the Poly. Also, there is so much to see and take in. I love the Pop first thing in the morning at late at night. Beautiful!

You didn't take offense to my reference to Canada, did you Boncho ? I just noticed you are from Canada.

Not sure what your "confused" icon was in reference to ??? I meant nothing by it. We were there around Valentines Day one year (2006, I believe ?) and there was a family with 4 kids swimming when it was like low 50's. I was dipping my foot in the pool to feel how warm the water was and got to talking to the parents of the kids. They were from Canada and told me they felt this was warm. So not sure if you took my comment offensively by your icon ? It was not meant like that. Rather....it's true for many from cold areas----60 degrees would feel toasty if they're used to 20 degrees or below. I have relatives who live in FL and they were coats and hats when it's 60 ! :rotfl:

No, I didn't take offense to it. I couldn't imagine going swimming when it is that cold - I won't even take my sweater off until it is at least 65 degrees
:lmao: :lmao: I think maybe I'm just getting a tad grouchy because we are supposed to get more snow and freezing rain today. On a lighter note, I have a joke for you - A woman was driving behind a truck and they came to a stop sign. The woman jumps out of the car, runs up to the truck and says to the man - My name is Wendy and you are losing you're load. They drive to the next stop sign and once again the woman jumps out of her car, runs up to the truck and tells the man - My name is Wendy and you are losing you're load. They drive to another stop sign and once again the woman jumps out of her car, runs up to the truck and tells the man - My name is Wendy and you're losing your load. When they come to the fourth stop sign the man jumps out of the truck, runs back to the car and says - Lady, my name is Dave, you are in Canada, it's winter and I'M DRIVING A SALT TRUCK

We will be at Pop 3/13-3/20. It is not Easter week, but it is considered Spring Break for some school districts. How crowded can we expect Pop to be? Will we have a hard time trying to catch a bus? Has anyone been to Pop during mid-March before. I'm worried about the crowds at the resort.
Thanks!

:lmao: Too funny Boncho ! :rotfl2: I'm glad u took no offense to my Canada reference and the pools ! I share your misery with the cold and I'm grouchy and get the blues during the winter. So dreaming and planning about a nice warm, bright place like WDW and POP gives me alot to look forward to.

does anyone remember what the original non-smoking buildings were at pop? i'm thinking 2,3,6 & 7, but i could be wrong, and i can't seem to find the post in the info threads. i'm allergic to cigarette smoke and need to make sure my room has always been non-smoking. a coat of paint and a new bedspread won't do it for me.

I am from Upstate NY too! Verona NY! :) I am very much looking forward to the weather so far it looks pretty good compared to 2 degrees here! :thumbsup2

::yes:: Upstate is no place to be right now.. unless you are an eskimo!

This was tough to dig up. I found this info on another website (looks like 70's and 80's had no smoking rooms if this is correct) :
Andrea, I'm sure I cannot do anything about them smoking outside but I'm thinking that if they have nonsmoking buildings instead of rooms or floors, I'll stand a better chance of staying smoke free. I'm looking at my Pop Century map in my 2005 Passporter and it has little icons for smoking rooms avail. listed on building A in 50's, both A & B in 60's none in 70's or 80's and on A in 90's. I'm beginning to think it might be smoking floors instead of buildings. I might need to request 70's buildings. Has anyone stayed in 70's buildings that could verify if smoking was allowed in their buildings?

One thing I'm hoping you expert Pop'ers can help me is been whether or not to bring an over the door shoe hanger. I know a lot of people say to bring it for bathroom things but I don't know exactly what people put in them. I can't see us having a lot of stuff near the sink. Is there anywhere to put the stuff near the sink or is it just a sink? Also what do all of you put in them? Thanks for your help.

There is a small amount of counter space and a shelf above the sink.
I hung my over-the-door shoe organizer in the closet because over the bathroom door it would've covered the mirror.
I have a lot of tolietries...it was nice to keep everything organized, in one place, etc :thumbsup2

I would think for the smoking you would be best to put it as a medical request that you get a room that has never been a smoking room.
