Hope everyone along the east coast hit by this mammoth snowstorm has managed to stay warm and snug today!

We shoveled and used the snowblower twice today and estimated that we already have at least twenty inches at 7:00 PM! This is definitely a December record breaker for the Washington DC metro area and in our top 10 storms ever!

I braved the cold and wind to get some photos and processed a couple so far.

The view up our 250 ft. driveway in early afternoon

And snow blowing around our screened room with the Christmas tree in the window and snow piling up on the roofline and that funny lump in the lower right is the Weber grill covered with snow.

If it means anything to you, my daughter way playing outside in her bikini today ;) I actually miss the snow a little, but with everyone I know on Facebook posting pictures of it today, I am getting all of it I need.

On Long Island and getting hit with it now. Forecast is saying about 18+ inches.

Wouldn't mind so much but I gave one snow blower away last year and my other one died! Going to have to get up early and shovel because my oldest daughter already told me when she gets up tomorrow we are going to build a snowman, make a fort, make snow angels, have a snow ball fight, go sleigh riding, etc etc :rotfl:

Better get my rest!

For those of us in the Northeast I'll take this thread as an opportunity to remind everyone to shoot at +1 or 2+ ev in the snow...

Glad to see someone managed to get outside and get photos of the storm---I've been in my living room watching movies/drinking cocoa/snuggling under a blanket all day! :thumbsup2

The storm is definitely inconvenient since we just got back from WDW and I have a boat load of Christmas shopping to do, but it's nice to get a big old pile of snow sometimes. For me in NJ, 20 inches is much more fun than 4 inches any day. :upsidedow

You guys are making me home sick. Growing up in MA, we had lots of really nice snow storms. Here in Mexico City we get an occasional hail storm, but no snow (I think the last time it actually snowed here was in 1967).
I know there are a lot of inconveniences that come with a blizzard, but I really do miss seeing the beauty of a good snow fall.

Klmall, I am probably about an hour and a half north of you and so far we have probably 12-14" and its still coming down pretty hard at 9pm. I managed to snap a few pics this morning when it was only about 4" on the ground. Hoping to get out with camera tomorrow for some pics. I did the snowblower/shovel thing twice today too trying to stay ahead of it a little. Here are a few of the pics I took this morning:

We are about an hour north of Hartford and as of 10:00 pm we are waiting for the snow to start. Maybe we will get lucky and it will miss us. The Cape is supposed to get hit hard.

Your pictures are beautiful! I love the delicate look of the snow on the furniture.

It's finally starting to slow down and has almost stopped now so I'll get more pictures tomorrow but it was really something to be out in the thick of it today!

How true about a big snow being sooooo much better than a little ole 4 or 5 inches like the one exactly two weeks ago. This one is worth pictures and cocoa and of course the slushy mess for days after!

And so sorry Anne about the death of your husband's grandfather. We have been faced with similar premature trip returns also and it is not easy but always the best thing to do.

Have a Merry Christmas and better New Year!
Kathy

While I love looking all of your great shots of the snow scenes I really don't miss the snow that much. I had enough while living in Montana and Wisconsin. I heard that it was 80+ here today but I would not know about that since I am inside working.

I understand your thoughts about the snow! We're excited because we've gone without any decent snow for almost six years here and this is really something.

And of course, we're worried because my Mom is supposed to be flying in from LA tomorrow to Baltimore after 10 glorious days in Hawaii. Even if she manages to make it to Baltimore I bet her ride will not make it from western PA to get her! Should be an interesting day tomorrow.....

I am so jealous!!! I want some snow to!! I miss those great New England snow storms. I used to live in MA. Now i am in Indiana and we don't get more than a few inches all season. The Pictures i have seen are so pretty.:thumbsup2

I'm from western PA....and we only got about a foot. Which for here isn't really blizzard-worthy just a snow-storm. So your mama's ride will no doubt have no problems with coming to get her! All the big highways between here and BWI should be fine til tomarrow... the 2ndary roads....well probably not:lmao:

Thanks Paula! That's great to hear. I figured I-81 and I-70 would be fine. Hopefully all the flights will make it in okay!

I finally dragged myself out into the cold today to take some pictures of the doggies playing in the snow and snapped some of our house as well, I'll try to get around to posting them later.
