Day 2

Good Morning AKL!

IMG_0333.jpg

This morning we were heading to DHS to meet up with a fellow diser, antss (and as I would later find out, also with disneymiss). I was excited to see antss again and mom was excited to finally meet her. Mom wanted some coffee when she first got up so I made a pot in the room and we sat on the balcony for a little bit watching the few animals that were out; really just the birds and ducks this morning. I had a schedule to keep due to the surprise for mom so I suggested that we get dressed and head to breakfast. This was our first breakfast in the lounge. When we got to the lounge, antss texted me to see where we were. She was also staying at AKL and in all her Disney trips, always stays clear of the buses so she wanted to ride with us. I told her that we were gonna get a quick bite first and meet her at the bus stop. (sorry that we took so long antss, too busy taking pictures); the offerings in the morning are oatmeal & quinoa (there was brown sugar, granola and such to put in); lots and lots of fresh fruit, croissants (which I ate every morning because they were so good with the strawberry jam), bagels, muffins, cold cereals, pastries, different juices (mango, pineapple, etc.).

We met up with antss and she and mom hit it off right away.

IMG_0340.jpg

The bus ride was uneventful and antss made it thru okay. Her first bus ride………..YEAH!

IMG_0342.jpg

After getting thru the DHS gates, our first stop was toy story. They didn’t have this attraction last time mom was here and since she is a big kid anyway, I knew she would love it. The wait wasn’t very long so we grabbed a FP and then went into standby so mom could get the full effect of the queue. I think that this is one of the few lines I never mind standing in as there is so much to see.

IMG_0347.jpg

We finally made it on and mom and I rode together with antss behind us. I did mention that my mom was a big kid right…………well she laughed and giggled thru the whole ride. She is that person you always want to do 3D things with as she is always so unsuspecting. It was hilarious. Antss didn’t know what was going on and I could hear her giggling on the other side. Score check: Antss (116K), Me (101K), and Mom (47K) – not bad for a first timer but she said I cheated. THANKS MOM….WHERE IS THE FAITH? When we got off, antss kept asking, “mom are you okay?” I warned her that my mom couldn’t ride anything without making noises and to just sit back and enjoy. What a character she is! Antss said that we were also meeting up with disneymiss whom neither of us had ever met before so we were excited to share the day with her. We all hit it off right away! (hey disneymiss…………as long as you keep cold water and candy with you, mom will follow you anywhere)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMG_0352.jpg

We headed to the great movie ride, one of mom’s favorites. They need to definitely update it but I still love this ride. I did hear some crunching that I never heard before while on the ride………….oh…it was just antss having a snack. (hey…no eating on the ride). We ran into these 2 ladies on our way to another attraction. They noticed antss’ and disneymiss’ birthday buttons and we stopped. They were a hoot.

IMG_0354.jpg

IMG_0355.jpg

We tried to ride RNR (minus mom of course) but the standby line was too long and mom and I were eating lunch at Sci-fi. We sadly parted but promised to text each other when we were done with lunch to see if they were still in DHS. Mom and I headed off to Sci-fi.

IMG_0359.jpg

IMG_0357.jpg

We waited only a few minutes to be seated. I had such a good time here solo and my mom loves all those old movies with giant bugs and cartoons so I knew this would be right up her alley. She thought the cars were really neat. We shared the onion rings and I swear the portion is getting bigger. Way too many but we did our best to finish them. Mom ordered a burger, which due to the onion rings, she could only finish half. She was bummed because she said it was one of the best burgers she has had. I always think it is funny that my mom always gets the waiters that want to mess with her. She asked for a little pickles and mayo and I swear the plate they brought out…..she could have shared with our whole car. I had the beef & bleu salad I had on my previous trip and it was again awesome; along with an oreo cookie milkshake and I was stuffed as well. When mom headed off to the restroom, I checked my phone for any texts from the girls. I had a voicemail from Josh in concierge. I thought it might be about my surprise so I tried to quickly call him before mom returned to the table. The operators bounced me all over the place just to find out that he was on his lunch break and to call back in an hour. Mom saw me on the phone and asked what I was doing. I told her it was Josh and she figured he was calling about finding her the odouls so I just let her believe that.

After lunch, we headed off to another one of my favorites, little mermaid. Yes I love little mermaid………deal with it! Mom does too so that’s why we work perfectly together. Just as we entered I got a text from antss asking where we were. She and disneymiss were still in the park but unfortunately didn’t make it over before the doors closed. We agreed to meet afterward. When we came out it was raining. Not too hard but enough to keep us in the gift shop a little while and that’s where we met up with the girls. The rain only lasted about 10-15 minutes and can you believe it, that was the only rain we got caught in all week. Great Weather!

Continued..........

Mom was starting to get tired at this point and I had already whispered to the girls that I had to get her back to the resort for a surprise. We parted but not before making plans to meet up that night for spectromagic and wishes at MKG. On the way to the bus stop, I called Josh and figured if he was calling about my surprise, I would try to not do much of the talking to keep mom in the dark. He was actually calling about my mom’s non-alcoholic beers. He said that he had located a four pack and just wanted to know if he should have more delivered for the week? What service I tell you. Anything you asked of concierge, they tried to get for you. Mom said 4 was fine to last the week and he said that they were in the lounge fridge in their kitchen and to just let someone know whenever she wanted one or we could take them to the room if we wanted.

We finally arrived back at the resort and I took my camera out. Mom asked what I was doing and I pretended to take photos of the corridors. I was fumbling for my room key but really I wanted mom to go in first so she finally got her key out and headed in. I quickly saw the surprise on the table and moved over to catch her reaction with a photo. She was looking at me and never even looked towards the table. It was hilarious! She kept saying……….”why are you pointing the camera at me?” I finally had to tell her to turn around. Here was her reaction.

IMG_0376.jpg

I think the 2 of us were laughing so hard at how clueless she was. Here is what I had waiting for her.

IMG_0377.jpg

IMG_0379.jpg

Being the sweets lover that she is she was very excited to dig in. We both were actually. It was chocolate cake with a very rich chocolate frosting. We cut into it and then I remembered my mom’s new sweet buddy. I texted antss to see if she was back at the resort and she was. I told her our room number and to come have cake….i didn’t have to ask twice. A short while later she was there and had cake with us on our balcony watching the animals.

IMG_0387.jpg

Mom and I both were ready for tea time so we all headed out. We told antss we would meet up with her later at MKG. Mom and I headed off to the lounge to have tea/coffee. We also brought some sodas back to the room. We also wanted to take water back to the room so concierge gave us these huge bottles of evian to leave in our room. After this, we both definitely needed a nap before heading back out that evening.

When we did finally leave the room, it was to head to……..you guessed it, the lounge again. Since we had a big lunch we didn’t have any plans for dinner so planned instead to have a few appetizers in the lounge and maybe get a hotdog at the park later. I didn’t take photos every night of the offerings but the hot appetizers tonight were an African type of stew filled with chicken and beef and shrimp. There were also spicy meatballs and samosas. I really enjoyed everything but unfortunately mom is allergic to shellfish so the soup was out. She also has problems with tomatoes so she only attempted one meatball. She instead filled up on crackers and cheese and samosas. Afterward we headed out to meet the girls at MKG. Now here is where I got in trouble. I blame it on antss and disneymiss though I was the only one in trouble later on. We all talked my mom into getting on big thunder mountain. My mom is afraid of heights and hates roller coasters. I believe this to be the tamest one so I figured she could handle it. Here she is before the ride.

IMG_0393.jpg

After the ride………..well………there are no photos. Let’s just say she had to do a lot of apologizing to the little kid sitting in front of us. See when my mom gets scared, curse words come out of her mouth. None of the really bad ones but in any case, there they came. She was terrified and the whole ride kept saying “oh Lord, oh Lord, oh Lord!” I feel bad but the girls and I were in tears from laughing so much. After we got off we wanted to ride splash mountain and I knew not to even attempt to force her. Instead, while we headed off, she sat and called my dad at home to tell on me. It backfired on her though…she should have known he would stick up for his baby girl. He told her, “no one made you get on…she didn’t force you…you made that choice!” clearly not what she was looking for but at least I was off the hook for now! We wanted to squeeze one more ride in before the parade so we headed over to haunted mansion. Mom likes this kind of stuff so we were cool. She hates those movable walkways though and clutches on for dear life whenever she has to step on one. When getting off she yelled (to the walkway mind you) “stop, stop, stop!” I reminded her that it couldn’t hear her and to jump off.

We didn’t have the greatest spot for spectromagic when we came out but I really just wanted to hear the music anyway. I couldn’t quite figure out my new camera in time so I will post pics later when we attended the parade again. Again I heard some crunching……hmm……….looks like someone is having a snack……….

IMG_0399.jpg

Or had a snack.

IMG_0403.jpg

Oreos! We found a really good spot for wishes. Mom headed off to get some popcorn. Wishes was BEAUTIFUL as always and antss and I made a pact not to cry this time. I am always amazed at how it moves me. I started to get the hang of my camera so here are a few of the shots I captured.

IMG_0437.jpg

Wishes always ends the night perfectly! We headed out and of course there was a mob of people. We decided to cut through a few of the stores. Antss decided to shop for more ears………can’t remember if this was before or after a man tried to take her foot off with a stroller???? She is smiling so I am guessing before!

IMG_0438.jpg

We parted ways at the bus stop as disneymiss was staying at OKW. We couldn’t believe how much fun we were all having together and made plans yet again to meet the next morning. It was off to bed now……….another surprise up my sleeve for tomorrow. Actually a surprise from my sisters. They decided to get in on the act too….SHHHHHHHHHHH!

you can't help but laugh at her but it is all in good fun...the bad thing is that my dad is exactly the same and talking to the 2 of them is like hanging out with laurel & hardy :rotfl2:

That was too funny about your mom on BTMRR :rotfl2: I had remembered it as a fairly tame RR ride from my trip in 1997 but when my DBFF and I went on it in 2008, I'm sure they added some dips and turns!! I couldn't stop laughing thru the whole ride (I was videotaping it and that's all you hear :lmao:)

I'll say it again - what a great daughter you are! The Mother's Day cake looked scrumpteous :cloud9:

Day 4

Mom and I had made plans to meet up with antss and disneymiss at Epcot so we wanted to get an early start. Since we were going to be out most of the day and I had a surprise in store, I needed to figure out how to give it to her. My sisters had decided to get in on the act and give their mother’s day gift to her on our trip. I had a mother’s day card from them and put the surprise inside. All that was left was to figure out where to leave it so she would see it before we left. We were up at 6 am this morning. I quickly got dressed so that when my mom went in to take her shower, I could leave the card. I searched all over the room for a good place and she had her bag for the park almost packed so I leaned the card up against there and tried to hide the smile on my face. When she came out, I went to the vanity area so I wouldn’t smile at her and give it away. From the other room all I heard was “this girl is always up to something!” I gave a stupid “huh?” She asked what it was and I told her that it was from her other daughters and she went to open it.

IMG_0445.jpg

She read the card but wasn’t quite sure what the surprise was and then realized that there was a brochure inside as well.

IMG_0446.jpg

IMG_0443.jpg

As a treat, my sisters booked Cirque Du Soleil. My mom and I both have always wanted to see this show and she was overwhelmed with excitement. I told concierge 6 months ago that I needed tickets and they booked some fantastic seats for us. When I got to Disney, I grabbed a Cirque brochure to put in the card. It was great!

We made it to breakfast by 7:15 and arrived at Epcot by 8:15. Pretty early for us! Antss had just texted us to say she overslept so to head in. We met up with disneymiss and decided to meet up at Soarin. I had only 3 things to accomplish this morning…..to get my mom on soarin, mission space, and test track…all of which she has never ridden. When we met up with antss, she didn’t want to ride mission so we sent her off with our tickets to get FPs for soarin while mom, disneymiss and I rode. We had to coax disneymiss on but we finally won her over. We chose the green side. Mom loved it. She were all laughing before we even got on because when they line you up inside in front of the monitors and they give you the safety briefing and how people with a fear of closed in spaces shouldn’t ride…the people lined up next to us disappeared before we even noticed. It was too funny and mom was starting to have second thoughts. She did get on and within minutes was enjoying herself. Somewhere in there she yelled “yee ha!” and disneymiss and I had to remind her that we were in a space shuttle not on a horse!

We met up with antss and we all headed over to test track. Mom was a little scared as she didn’t know what to expect but she loved it. During the road test, her neck jerked and she was so afraid that it would do it again that she held her head the whole ride (this would explain the ride photo).

testtrack.jpg

It was time for our FP to soarin. I was a little afraid of taking mom on this ride as she is not fond of heights…and of course since I didn’t think I would get her on it again, we waited for the front row. Once in her seat, mom held on for dear life. She was cool at first. But as the ride went on, she got more and more stiff and I tried to talk to her but she told me to leave her alone…she was trying to concentrate and not think of how high we were. It was quiet and she was settling in when we got to the part with the fireworks. Unfortunately, that is where it went south. The big bang scared her and in the pleasant silence in the room, you heard someone yell “OH SH**!” Yep, that was my lovely mom. Immediately following, you heard all these little giggles (most coming from antss and disneymiss next to us). Again, mom apologized to the parent sitting next to her and her child. When we were lowered down, the ride attendant in the front couldn’t stop laughing. It was pretty funny!

Mom and I wanted to make a stop at AKG and knock out a few attractions. We parted from the girls and headed over to the buses. We hit It’s Tough To Be A Bug first and unfortunately got stuck at the end of the row and some of the effects didn’t work on us but still a cute show as always.

IMG_0452.jpg

We starting to get hungry and decided to share lunch at Flame Tree. I had never eaten here but others told me to try the ribs. I’m not a huge rib fan but my mom is and since this is her trip, I went along. They were pretty good actually. We shared the rib platter which came with coleslaw (yuck) and baked beans and a side of onion rings. The meal was good but I could have done without the ducks. There were signs everywhere asking people not to feed the birds but of course, some don’t listen and they were everywhere trying to get a bite. I checked the time schedule and Nemo the musical was about to start. This was another attraction that mom had never seen. She really liked the show but we were getting pretty tired and needed to head back to the resort to rest. Of course I couldn’t get that song out of my head the rest of the trip……….in a big blue world…..okay I’ll stop! Mom wanted to stop in a couple of gift shops on our way back to the buses. I couldn’t wait to get back to our lodge.

We stopped by the concierge lounge for a plate of cookies and chips and grabbed a soda. I took a quick nap in the room but had to soon get back up to get ready to head to downtown disney for cirque. We headed out to the bus stop and the bus took forever!!!!!!!!!!!! They said to be there at a certain time to pick up our tickets at will call and I was imagining a huge line. I was getting antsy and after approx 30 minutes of waiting, the bus finally showed up. We of course ended up with the slowest driver in the world. He was out sight seeing…didn’t this man know we had somewhere to be. Definitely my mistake for not taking a taxi in the first place. I will definitely next time! He stopped at the marketplace first. He sat there for a minute talking to another cast member and then finally pulled out. Because we were in a hurry, it seemed to take forever to get to the west side. When we got off the bus, I was surprised that we were still so far away and felt even worse for not putting mom in a taxi. I told her to walk slow and showed her where the box office was and then I took off to grab our tickets. Turned out I didn’t need to worry. There was no line and the show wasn’t sold out. We had time for a quick restroom break before heading in. I wish we could have taken photos to explain what we saw but in a word…..AMAZING. Like nothing either of us have ever seen before. It was so good and we had great seats….4th or 5th row from stage in the center. It was fantastic.

We poked around the gift shop a little and then headed to dinner. We had reservations at Raglan Road.

IMG_0464.jpg

IMG_0465.jpg

We only had a short wait and were seated quickly. I ordered the chicken pot pie, which was really good and mom ordered the beef stew. There was something in the stew she wasn’t crazy about so being the good daughter I am, I let her taste mine and she really liked it so we switched dinners. We ordered dessert though not sure why we both ordered one as we were getting full. I had the bread pudding and mom had the berry tart with ice cream. Both were really good but we didn’t even make a dent in them. After dinner we did some shopping and then limped to the bus stop. Feet were killing me! We were exhausted. A full day but a great one! We talked for a little bit about how great the show was on the way back to the lodge. I remember kicking my shoes off but that was it until I woke up the next morning.
