The Great Leap into Running and DVC Ownership.

Ann, I think your plans of having Zoe race on Thursday are good ones.

As for the rental car, it gets pricey getting a bigger car to fit all of you in unless you can find a really good deal.

Unfortunately, we were not a fan of Ohana's dinner at all; glad we tried it once, but won't be going back. If no parks are open and you all have the energy AND a car, there's always mini-golf.

I have rented a car on my last couple trips (with the exception of my quick weekend get away) and I have loved it. I keep looking into it for this coming week but I cannot justify the car for just one person as much as I would like to. So far the first day plans look great. I am sure Zoe will do great with the MM. Maybe instead of running with her try and station yourselves along the route verses run with her. Maybe have you drop her at the start, have Alex or Steve at the halfway point then the other at the end. Definitely understand your apprehension though!

Told you I started reading this! :) Read the whole thing; sorry for the replies to old posts but I'm just learning some of this.

See... she isn't actually allergic to watermelon or avocado. Her body is allergic to latex. Fruits especially can have a protein that is very similar. Her body then "takes a look at" that protein and thinks "hmm... close enough" and reacts. Kinda like this :sad1: and this :guilty: look a lot alike..both with blue tones and a frown. It confuses her body and it thinks it is the same...and maybe it is the "tear" part of the protein that she is actually allergic so when testing this :guilty: and it doesn't have that tear her allergen score it may show she is not allergic.

So sorry she has to deal with this. That was an AMAZING description of the issue, though, thank you for that.

My aunt says she's not allergic to latex, BUT avocados, mangos, and bananas cause problems for her, and I think those are all on the pseudo-latex list, aren't they? Weird, eh?

However, I think I am wasting my money since even the doc feels it is unlikely to show positive. She has a similar thing going on and she herself tests negative for specific items that she absolutely reacts to.

Although I'm sure it's frustrating for the allergy doctor, I think it's amazing and excellent that you have a doctor that has such a thing going on with herself! Another doctor might not believe it, but you found the perfect one.

(though I did read later that she did test positive for all sorts of things...on some small level I can relate....one of the reasons I'm no longer a Californian (ran away for college in Tacoma when I was 17 and haven't lived in CA since!) is because I tested positive to EVERYTHING local/environmental they tested me for...the last 2 years of my life there are a blur, I barely remember anything, because I was either sneezing constantly OR drugged up so I didn't sneeze.)

The end goal is the same... to not have anyone go crazy on the trip. ;)

:rotfl2:

As an accomplishment I really would like to do the Coast to Coast some day. I have slowly come around in my thinking regarding the medals. At first I could have cared less... now the idea of a pink coast to coast has me intrigued. I am even considering taking all my medals out of a drawer and displaying them at some point.... but ::yes:: they are just crammed in a drawer somewhere.

So... I am jealous of your pink coast to coast. But that is for doing the Tinkerbell and the PHM... and those are just sooo close together. I fear I would die. :rotfl:

If you could forget the PINK medal and just go with any C2C medal, you could do the Disneyland Half over Labor Day next year and it would count with January.... Wait, you are doing the Half in Jan? Not the full?

Anyway, my point is, I'm planning on doing just what I described. No pink medal, but a C2C all the same!

Spring is hard...agreed. Events were limited. March will have St. Paddy's day races... lots of them. Most likely most are 5ks though.

I know it's not all that close to you, but the Tacoma City Marathon group puts on a Half over St Paddy's day....

I PR'd the race (comparing it to last year) I finished with a time of 1:44:16. 79th in my division and 606th of all women. My over all place was 1440. Not horrible when the total number of finishers was 9480 of which 6134 were women....

The adventure runs have been very lucky for my family. We have won more than our fair share of prizes. (adventure runs are more of a scavenger hunt.. go to check points...get raffle tickets..turn them in and win prizes) In September, Zoe actually won a pair of shoes. She gave this prize to Kira who got a pair of $150 Adidas energy boost. In addition to those shoes, there were restaurant gift certificates, shirts... we had quite the haul. This month I really didn't want to go. I feel like we win too much and I wanted to give someone else a chance. Kira talked me into going... just the two of us. Well, long story short.. of course we again won. I won a pair of asic shoes (up to $120 value) and a pair of CEP calf sleeves ($40 value) Then there were of course some restaurant gift certificates...

You are AMAZING! What a great time!

Wow, you guys win a lot at the Adventure Runs! I'll have to do it again some time. Man, and I thought I won some stuff, but it was a Baskin Robbins GC (we don't eat their ice cream, though I guess I've never checked their ingredient lists for the corn syrup based ingredients we have to avoid), free breadsticks at some place at Kent Station, and a GC for Cal's (which actually was pretty amazing food). No shoes, though!

I can't remember if I have a year from the date I first booked to rebook or if the flight has to be within the year. In any case, $40 will help!

The flight has to be within the year.

Guess what I did today? I used my 11 month home advantage and booked Steve and I for our anniversary trip. :cool1: So now we will not have to pay oop for a room over race weekend. :thumbsup2

And of course that means a new ticker is in order. :goodvibes

Very nice!

Steve really was frustrated that we had to book at pofq for part of January... But race weekends fill up and by the time we closed on the Dvc contract.... Nothing was available. Here and there I have seen a night or two open up... Or ssr was available... But since we are using more points to stay in a one bedroom... In order to avoid borrowing for next fall we would have to switch to a studio for the entire trip. I am ok with the split stay. :)

Poor Steve. Feel free to use us as a "see, other people do even sillier things!" example. :) We just have too few points. Never thought 160 would be too few. But we bought direct, Bay Lake, and we financed. If we'd spent what we have spent so far on some OKW contracts, we'd never have to pay OOP for a hotel room, that's for sure!

But our trips are long and, right now, often. So....

Mickey Mile...you know, even though my kidlet has no health issues, I wouldn't have felt comfy with him running the mile alone last year at 8. This year at 9 I'm OK with it, though part of me hopes that at the last minute he'll ask me to go in with him. So I'm with you on wanting to keep an eye on Miss Zoe.

Yes! I had credits and used some miles so that leg cost me $20!

That is awesome! :thumbsup2

Very dark! Oh well, once we get into Jan it will start to improve, right?

 not so sure. I think it will only be worse by January. Oh well...

I can't get my arms around shooting, near Disney...at night! that's nuts. I thought Duck hunting was uber early in the am but what do I know! Yeah, that would make me speed up too I'd think.

Or hide.

No, no... that was up in Fall City. Still it was unsettling to me to hear the shots. Course, it isn't like I don't hear them out this way too. The elk are coming down again and it always draws the "lazy" hunters.

I still use it as a log, which is a bit of a pita as I modify every single run to match the watch but still, I like having it in one place and am too invested to try another. I don't think it would make a difference really, you are stuck with your phones connection and GPS and well, there are dead spots!

Lately I think I have been having a worse time. I wonder if it is the clouds...but ya know you are right...kinda stuck with it since I am too invested in it to start something else.

I don't think you need to go over 13. I know Jeff feels if you can do 10, you can do 13. It's more a matter of if you want to go over, just to see if you can in my mind. Could it hurt? No. Is it needed, I don't think so.

I worry a bit.... two weeks ago I did 10 no problem. Then last week was the start of a not so good running week. We had a storm (not sure how bad Sat was for you..but out here the morning was not good) I only went 5..5 1/2 miles. The wind pushed me to the side and my hip and knee hurt after the run. I had to hard plant in order to not be pushed over by the gusts. Monday was good enough and I went farther than I normally do for my "fast run" days. Tuesday was "normal" Thursday I managed 7.3, but I ended up shaving the skin off my ankle (I did it while running and did not realize until I looked down and saw my shoe was soaked with blood.) YUCK! Didn't hurt too much.... then I woke yesterday and knew I was sick. Not sure I did myself any favors running like that yesterday...but I did manage 7.75 miles. Slowed my pace way down in order to do that... I just am not sure I am making my long runs long enough. Next saturday is the Turkey Trot... and that is only a 5k.. Do I go out for an additional 7+ miles that day or maybe just do it on sunday? I really feel like I should get at least 10 in.

A year from original booking.

That will be cutting it close. I booked the flight on 10/17. Even if Steve and I stay longer at the beach (we will be in WDW for a week and then some time down in Sarasota) we should be fine. I can't see us staying longer than a week in Sarasota...probably just a couple days. That has our return flight sometime around 10/12- 10/16

Alex and Zoe will not be flying anywhere by next October, so I guess we will lose that credit.

So is this over ToT weekend next year? Will you both do it? Kids?

:thumbsup2 FUN!

Nope, it will be just the two of us...and yes, for ToT weekend. It will be to celebrate our 25 year anniversary.

Tough call, I do think she can do it...but yes, I'd want to be along side...or have you guys stationed at intervals to look for her. Big step!

I took her out yesterday and she managed to run .82 miles...so I am sure she will be able to do it...but I like that idea of having us stationed around to look for her. One at start, one midway and one at finish. That sounds not to bad, right?
Lunch does sound a bit car dependent. In some ways a car can be lovely, in others a total pain. Either way sounds like the tickets may be a little bit of a pain.

and I just started to throw in the fp+ into the scenario...so it may even be more complicated.

Resort to resort is a pain, especially later at night, I can see where a car would be good, and vastly improve the chances of everyone making it to dinner!

If only the cost wasn't quite as high. I have been checking, but it almost seems like using a taxi would be our better option.

Then again...Kira and Josh could take cab, as could the rest of you. I always try to balance out cab cost versus the car rental for the whole time period if it's really only going to be a concern/need a few times.

::yes:: exactly! I am wondering if this isn't a better option after all. :sad2:

Ann, I think your plans of having Zoe race on Thursday are good ones.

Thank you!

As for the rental car, it gets pricey getting a bigger car to fit all of you in unless you can find a really good deal.

Since there would be no time where all of us would HAVE to ride together I wouldn't worry about getting a car big enough to fit all of us... but so far no deals seem to be had anyway. :sad2:

Unfortunately, we were not a fan of Ohana's dinner at all; glad we tried it once, but won't be going back. If no parks are open and you all have the energy AND a car, there's always mini-golf.

It is Steve's #1. I like it well enough but could skip it. Josh has never been and we are sure he would love it just like Steve. Kira would like to skip it since she really doesn't care for it. Sadly though, we will finish pretty late. There won't be anything else we do that night.

I have rented a car on my last couple trips (with the exception of my quick weekend get away) and I have loved it. I keep looking into it for this coming week but I cannot justify the car for just one person as much as I would like to.

How did it go? Looked like it was a fun race!

So far the first day plans look great.

Well, just when I think I have a handle on it...then I start to look at fp+. I was able to set up some for the thursday night so we will see if that goes well or not.

I am sure Zoe will do great with the MM. Maybe instead of running with her try and station yourselves along the route verses run with her. Maybe have you drop her at the start, have Alex or Steve at the halfway point then the other at the end. Definitely understand your apprehension though!

Great minds! That is kinda what I was thinking!!! Or then again, I could just make Alex run it with her. :rotfl: I am sure he would love that. He has to tag along with us on a race next weekend. Zoe will have hers first and then Steve and I ours... while we are running Alex has to be there to stay with Zoe. You would think I asked him to pull out his own teeth.

Told you I started reading this! :) Read the whole thing; sorry for the replies to old posts but I'm just learning some of this.

PLEASE! I am barely started. You are not replying to that old of posts!!!

So sorry she has to deal with this. That was an AMAZING description of the issue, though, thank you for that.

:goodvibes She handles most things well. And as for my description... I am an over sharer...and as such I tend to be able to overly describe EVERYTHING :rotfl2:

My aunt says she's not allergic to latex, BUT avocados, mangos, and bananas cause problems for her, and I think those are all on the pseudo-latex list, aren't they? Weird, eh?

Those all are on that list. I would think latex also gives her trouble.

Although I'm sure it's frustrating for the allergy doctor, I think it's amazing and excellent that you have a doctor that has such a thing going on with herself! Another doctor might not believe it, but you found the perfect one.

We really lucked out on finding this pediatrician. In march (not sure if you caught this) our family doctor of 13 years closed her practice. We had a great relationship with her. The adults in the family have not been so lucky in finding a doctor to replace her with.

I think this surprised all of us! It sounds like it was a good move for you to come up this way. I hope that she doesn't end up moving somewhere else to get away from all her allergies.

I worry that DL half would be too hot for me. I like living up here and running in such pleasant temps. (even if it does rain) It is definitely something to consider though. WDW half and then DL half.... :scratchin... then drop down for the ToT in October. :scratchin....

I know it's not all that close to you, but the Tacoma City Marathon group puts on a Half over St Paddy's day....

Nothing is all that close to me :rotfl2: but Tacoma isn't that far...maybe even closer than Seattle. Last year the St. Paddy's day i did was in Puyallup. It wasn't my most favorite race... but they did give some great post race food!

You are AMAZING! What a great time!

Thank you.

I am not sure what it is. Being blessed...lucky... We tend to win more than our fair share. Kira and I went to a CK scrapbook convention on friday just to pop in. This use to be a focus for us. We would stay in a hotel... spend the weekend...go to classes. It was a BIG deal. Those days we took home many prizes. However with life being so busy lately, the scrapbooking hobby has not had a lot of focus. Yet we took the afternoon to just head up to the vendor fare. Sure enough... Kira won a door prize. I think she and I would be dangerous if we went to Vegas...and if we gambled.

The flight has to be within the year.

I mentioned it to Cynthia as well... sounds like we will be fine then. We will cut it close as we at the latest will fly home on 10/16 and I booked the flight on 10/17. Zoe and Alex will lose their credit... so that kinda stinks. I wish there was a way to use theirs on ours.

I think it is always a matter of more could be better...and buying direct definitely cuts down on how many points you get. We were lucky in purchasing a nice enough sized resale.

Zoe will be just shy of 9 when we go... I do like the idea of having us position ourselves around the course so that I can watch her.... we wills see.

 not so sure. I think it will only be worse by January. Oh well...

Well I am hoping that early am will be better, night will definitely be worse. Leaving work early is NOT going to work out well and I really want a shower after a run so am hoping that I can start doing early morning ones...once we have light earlier. UGH. It is going to change my whole routine, that is all I know. I did get 2 runs in this week but it wasn't easy at all. One was shorter than I'd have liked (though forced me to try speedwork, which I need to do and hate) and one had me leaving early. Apparently ALL of the office left early that day and as a whole, we all got yelled at so...that won't work. The short run though needed a shower after so my whole lunch idea...yeah, not so sure about that one.

No, no... that was up in Fall City. Still it was unsettling to me to hear the shots. Course, it isn't like I don't hear them out this way too. The elk are coming down again and it always draws the "lazy" hunters.

That makes SO much more sense :rotfl2:

Lately I think I have been having a worse time. I wonder if it is the clouds...but ya know you are right...kinda stuck with it since I am too invested in it to start something else.

I just don't think anything else would be better. I tried running with one of the iradio stations the other day and it dropped the signal at the same spots runkeeper drops/goes haywire so...it's a data/signal/carrier issue not really an app issue I think.

Do I go out for an additional 7+ miles that day or maybe just do it on sunday? I really feel like I should get at least 10 in.

Ok you DID 10 at ToT. The half isn't until Jan. You know you can do 10. You have time to do 10 and more between now and then and still taper. Listen to your body and also remember....the long run can't be too slow! Pace doesn't matter, it's just about the miles. See how you feel Sat after the turkey trot and go from there but it isn't worth making yourself sick, just to push yourself to get miles in. OW on the ankle.

So I can't do the turkey trot 'cuz the 5K I thought was supposed to be this past Sat is really the same day as the Turkey Trot. They moved it.

That will be cutting it close. I booked the flight on 10/17. Even if Steve and I stay longer at the beach (we will be in WDW for a week and then some time down in Sarasota) we should be fine. Oh you never know, it's nice to have them just in case.

Nope, it will be just the two of us...and yes, for ToT weekend. It will be to celebrate our 25 year anniversary.

:thumbsup2

Staged at intervals sounds perfect! Eric wants to start running with me. He wants to be able to do a shorter Disney run one of these days...plus run now so come spring track he is in much better shape. With the daylight challenges and school the only way I can see to make that work is to do a short one Saturday mornings before we go to the gym at 10. BLEH. I don't want to cut my Sunday longer run short (though they aren't that long lol) and he can't go that far so this seems to be the only option. He said he'd get up...we will see.

and I just started to throw in the fp+ into the scenario...so it may even be more complicated.

I hear you there!

If only the cost wasn't quite as high. I have been checking, but it almost seems like using a taxi would be our better option.

::yes:: exactly! I am wondering if this isn't a better option after all. :sad2:

Check Costco, and keep checking. They will be very high right now but may drop as it gets closer. I rebooked our Aulani car at least 4 times. On the flip side, I booked our NYE car probably 10 months ago lol.

I worry that DL half would be too hot for me. I like living up here and running in such pleasant temps. (even if it does rain) It is definitely something to consider though. WDW half and then DL half.... :scratchin... then drop down for the ToT in October. :scratchin....

I think the DL half is a FINE idea! And I know someone you could room with...right now it's just Jenny and I, we are both leaving the gang at home. At least that is the plan right now. I also think the trick is to run it fast lol, before the sun comes up. Plus....if you DID do some afternoon/evening runs in the summer you would get some of that heat training. Plenty of 70-80 temps to run in around here if you time it right :rotfl2:

Hi! The race went GREAT! It was again hotter than I would have liked (about 78 with some humidity but not overbearing). I was really hoping it would drop about 10 degrees but when it is 10 pm and the temp is the same I gave up hope. It is such a great coarse! THere was almost always something to look at! Most importantly my back help up fantastically! So far so good on the pain front! I even shaved 10 minutes off me DL half time! So with only 4 weeks to train I did 3:21! Still hoping to get back under the 3 hour mark, but that will take some time with my current issues. Finishing right now is good enough for me! I would definitely do this race again!

See how you feel Sat after the turkey trot and go from there but it isn't worth making yourself sick, just to push yourself to get miles in. OW on the ankle.

This is good to remember! I just need to make sure to not get too far behind. Course, there is a very good chance that I will be running with Steve so all I need to do is be able to keep up with him. He is still progressing (why do guys progress so much faster and with less effort? ) but I don't think he will quite to where I am by January. Now for next fall... :rotfl: I suspect he will leave me in the dust then.

So I can't do the turkey trot 'cuz the 5K I thought was supposed to be this past Sat is really the same day as the Turkey Trot. They moved it.

So you still have something to do! I bet your 5k will offer its own share of fun! The runsnoqualmie races are nice, but I have been to just as many non runsnoqualmie ones that are just as fun. :thumbsup2 Plus... it isn't like we don't have other opportunities to see each other. :goodvibes

BLEH. What I did with Zoe was take her on a short loop. Our development is a giant circle with cul de sacs branching off of it. In the center is a large "field". Running around that field 3 times would be a bit over a mile. So I knew she could handle running around once at least and then we just pushed for more. Once she was done, it put me back at the start (my home) of my normal courses. This allowed me to continue on for the rest of my run once I dropped her off at home. Not sure if something like this is a kind of option for you.... but maybe it would allow you to get in your total number of miles while still running with Eric. :goodvibes

Check Costco, and keep checking. They will be very high right now but may drop as it gets closer. I rebooked our Aulani car at least 4 times. On the flip side, I booked our NYE car probably 10 months ago lol.

I will keep checking. Thanks for the tip. :thumbsup2 I won't be heart broken if I don't find one that works for us. It has to balance between cost of the rental vs. a taxi and convenience. If the cost isn't low enough then we will likely just utilize a taxi.

For some reason I thought you and Jeff were doing the DL half. You have me tempted though... and yes :rotfl:, I could actually get some training in that would acclimate me a tad more to the heat. I just try and avoid it, as you know. ;) If nothing else, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea this summer to do just to make sure I don't die again at the ToT 10miler.

Hi! The race went GREAT! It was again hotter than I would have liked (about 78 with some humidity but not overbearing). I was really hoping it would drop about 10 degrees but when it is 10 pm and the temp is the same I gave up hope.

Ug, that is pretty warm. I am such a wimp when it comes to running in the heat.

It is such a great coarse! THere was almost always something to look at!

Now, it is different than the phm or the donald, right? Both of those are the same course....at least I think they are.

:cool1::cool1: That is awesome that your back didn't give you trouble and that you shaved some time off!!! Did you get any pics? Congrats!!!

As the trip draws closer, it is now time to design our magic bands as well as make our fast pass + selections.... or so I thought.

Well, part of it is correct. I can do these things. Steve, Alex and Zoe... not entirely. Bands can be chosen and a couple days of selections can be made for the fast passes. So since there are some issues that I could see on MDE - I called Disney. After an hour call, I got pretty much no where.

First person I spoke with said that I may in fact need all three magic bands - One that may or may not have my AP on it. since it currently is listed as active and I can in fact make fp+ selections with it, one for the POR stay and one for the OKW stay. He suggested that if my AP is not already linked to the one that I currently have that I not link it to either of the future stays. (the other two bands) He knows it can be done, but that one snag people are running into is that once the room stay is over and the band is no longer active... poof, where did the AP go? Do I entirely believe him? No. However I would rather not risk it. As for making it possible for Steve and the kids to make all of their fp+ selections, he had to transfer me to someone else.

This person informed me there was no way around it with how my current resie looks. The system knows I have an AP, so I can make selections, but the others only have a 2 day base tickets so only 2 days of selections can be made for them. The solution? I either have to upgrade them all now or wait until we arrive to make our fp+ selections. My first question to her was "won't that limit our available selections if we are choosing from what is left for that day?" She assured me that it would not. I can't say I believe her. Next question was "how can I get each of them the kind of ticket they will need without causing trouble for our package" She told me that once she got me to a reservation specialist I would be able to get Alex and Zoe their ph tickets as well as get Steve his AP all while not messing up my own AP. I tried to no avail to get her to understand that I did not think that was possible. So she transferred me.

That person confirmed with me what I already knew... that a package has to include the EXACT same time of ticket per person. Once we arrive each can be upgraded individually. :faint: This doesn't really bug me. I knew this would be the case...and bridging their tickets (which are discounted) will actually still give me an overall discount on the ph tickets as well as the AP. The only thing I don't know and didn't ask was if I have to get Steve's AP through DVC member services (and if they can apply the 2 day ticket from the package) or if I just go to guest services where I know it can be done.

Where this leaves me though is not having the ability to make selections for Steve, Alex and Zoe. My thought is that I will make my selections and then maybe by some sheer amount of pixiedust: those same ones can be added to their bands once we are there. Not sure if it will even be possible. Maybe plead with each cm at each attraction letting them know I was only able to make selections for me? :confused3 I think we will be spending a fair amount of time at guest services once we arrive. In some ways, maybe this isn't ideal and I am not sure all guests would be/will be so happy to have to do this. I mean... I will have to take time out of our vacation to deal with all of this since it can't be dealt with prior. Not sure there is much more I can do though that just be patient...

Cross your fingers that it is easily fixed.

So you still have something to do! I bet your 5k will offer its own share of fun! The runsnoqualmie races are nice, but I have been to just as many non runsnoqualmie ones that are just as fun. :thumbsup2 Plus... it isn't like we don't have other opportunities to see each other. :goodvibes

Exactly! Hopefully my wicked head cold is gone by Sat.

:goodvibes

Well what we discussed was going out early just the 2 of us, prior to the gym. To run from our house is a wicked hill any way you look at it, and no sidewalks/busy street so not what I'd want to start him out on.

Right now he says no. He is funny, he was ALL set to do Princess with me but the timing just doesn't work. He is not at all interested in running in the LA heat in August and is saying no. But we will see when registration time actually comes. It will be a short window before it's sold out and I won't be surprised if he changes his mind. At least we will all have a little time before it goes public for everyone to decide. It's just such an easier trip to make, especially it if is primarily about the race.

He is thinking about that 15K though so that is good.

I am in the same boat. Currently I have my PAP voucher, and it sees that so I can book anything. Jeff, the E's and my folks have 5 day hoppers so I can book 5 days for them. I cannot add days to their tickets until we get there as they are not part of a package. The rest don't have tickets to link yet.

I will say, I added myself, Jeff and the E's and booked stuff. A week or 2 later I added my folks and was able to easily copy our selections over to them. So that was cool. What I don't know is if it will still work as time goes on, or if this whole tiered FP+ thing sticks or is still in play. Lots of moving pieces that is for sure! My sister won't be getting tickets until December, and for all I know maybe not even until we get there so it could be interesting. I am REALLY trying to get her to see the need to get them now. But it is a $$ issue. Or really a December bonus issue, she wants to pay cash. Which I get but am worried about the implicaitons. I am told that there are FP+ help kiosks to try and get stuff like this fixed as needed but we will see!

As for Steve, if you want to apply an existing ticket to the upgrade, yeah, you have to do it at Guest Services there. Do activate it if it is a bridge first.

As for the linking your ticket to the band...hmmn. Good question! I linked my ticket to me ( I thought) not a specific band and in looking at MDE now, that still seems to be the case. I'm taking the same approach, booking some things for just me and hoping I can copy them over once we add more days to their tickets after we get there.

UGH

All I can say is I am NOT happy at all with this new FP+/MB system. And now they've tiered the Studios as well as Epcot for your FP selections. :furious:

Exactly! Hopefully my wicked head cold is gone by Sat. BLEH.

You and me both. I have sat out my two training runs this week thinking it would help in getting well by saturday (and friday too. ;))

Well, don't let him think about it too long. I know I was "thinking" about the phm for 2014...if it was possible to do a short trip just for the race. The decision was made for me since it filled up. Course, maybe I would have decided against it anyway. That is quite the trip to take just for a short visit. DLR on the other hand, you are right... much easier to take a short trip for. You are for sure doing it though, right?

I was just realizing that you had the issue too. With people having different tickets... it really complicates things. I hope that there are kiosks to help!!!

As for Steve, if you want to apply an existing ticket to the upgrade, yeah, you have to do it at Guest Services there. Do activate it if it is a bridge first.

Yup, I will have to have them all use one day... mine has to remain unactivated. I wonder if there is a way to transfer my two (or the value of my two) to Zoe and Alex once our package is done. I know that my two day from the package has to remain until the 12th. :scratchin That would mean maybe we don't go to the park on our arrival day (1/8) or the expo/kids race day (1/9) Nope...that won't work unless we skip one more day because 1/12 would have to be the last day on the ticket. :scratchin unless I upgraded all of us to a three day. I wonder how much that would add to our cost. I may check that out. It wouldn't be like the cost would be lost. After all... I would then have the value of a 3 day instead of a 2 day to apply.

UGH

UGH is right! I guess there is still time for this system to get straightened out before we go, but UGH!

All I can say is I am NOT happy at all with this new FP+/MB system. And now they've tiered the Studios as well as Epcot for your FP selections. :furious:

It really is making it not so easy to plan.:headache: I liked the old system for a number of reasons, not the least of which was handing out pixiedust: with those unused fp tickets. I am sure we can all adjust... eventually... but man it does stink!!

You and me both. I have sat out my two training runs this week thinking it would help in getting well by saturday (and friday too. ;))

Sigh, me too. I haven't worked out since Sunday! Monday was a scheduled rest day and the cold hit Tuesday. I may hit the gym tomorrow but given how I feel now...will likely wait to try running till Sat and then hopefully Sunday as well for my normal "long" one.

Well, don't let him think about it too long. I know I was "thinking" about the phm for 2014...if it was possible to do a short trip just for the race. The decision was made for me since it filled up. I was in the same boat for the WDW half this year...it was SO tempting as it was on the end of our dates but I knew I wouldn't be ready and really couldn't take the time then. Tink would be good, but not this year. DLR is SO much easier for a short trip so yes, I think that the half is pretty for sure for me. I've told Jeff I plan to register while we are down there, it is supposed to open up then

That is a good question! I have a 5 day hopper that I was going to give to my nephew if he came on the trip. Since he isn't, I'm actually hoping to sell it to one of my sisters, but at a discount. With needing new tires and brakes...I could use a little extra cash. BLEH! But if they end up not biting, my other thought had been to see if they would apply the value of it to me upgrading my PAP to the deluxe or whatever it is called that covers both DLR and WDW. If I do the 1/2, I'll have 2 DLR trips so it would break even and then get me a merch discount at DLR. But I'm not sure if they can do that or not. If the ticket is assigned to you (Unused from your package) then I am pretty positive you can't transfer it. If it has no name tied to it, then I am not sure what all could be done with it. I don't think I can use the 5 day I have and apply it to upgrading the 3 other tickets for more days (plus the ticket is worth more than that would cost so I don't know what they'd do with the extra anyway.

Just in case you didn't hear, allegedly the new CC hold start date for ALL table service dining date is now 11/19 so if you have changes to make, make them now!

I hope you are feeling well now. I know this has been a doozy for me! I finally am starting to feel close to 100%. I got a longish run in today (7 miles) I hope to get back on track since the Donald is just around the corner for me.

DVC and DV card holders will likely get a tad jump start on registration. I am getting more excited about this race now. ;)

I made some. Actually... my spreadsheet is crazy right now! I have so many that I have to cancel. With fp+ and kira's plans... I had to do some serious finagling. Add in then that as I was making my fp+ reservations... the tier situation came into play. :headache: So Kira luckily had her fp+ in place before the tier situation happened. Since I am hoping to copy mine to Steve , Alex and Zoe... I am also hoping that maybe I can copy some of hers.

Now, it is different than the phm or the donald, right? Both of those are the same course....at least I think they are.

:cool1::cool1: That is awesome that your back didn't give you trouble and that you shaved some time off!!! Did you get any pics? Congrats!!!

Yes it is a different coarse. This starts at WWOS and goes through AK, DHS, and Ends at Epocot. By the time you're out of AK you have already hit the 10K mark! Kinda crazy! So fun to run through DHS under the Osborne lights! I am not sure if I have pictures.....I will have to find my camera. I can't remember where I put it lol. Ive only half unpacked too (meaning I washed the laundry which is still in the dryer from Sunday :rolleyes1) so that is part of it. The Marathon Sports photos only came out so/so. I may buy a couple though because a couple did come out really well.

So I asked this over on the restaurant boards... maybe some of you might venture to guess. You can read my question here

Oh man! I would love to run that course!!! I am not sure about marathon foto... they didn't do very well at all with the photos from ToT. Glad you had some come out for you!

So we have all probably had those moments of excitement when our travel documents arrived. "mickey mail" So fun... so exciting! Yet I received a new kind of mickey mail recently.

This nice shrink wrapped package came for me a few days ago.

I at first thought maybe they were doing away with the excessive packaging on the magic bands.

NOPE

What I found inside was this.

This box is super nice and I intend to keep it. ::yes:: I may be a container/box hoarder :rolleyes1

In side that was this

but the best thing that was inside...under all of the above?

That is a little flash drive (with the email message that had already been sent to me regarding the magic bands) When plugged in... it glows like the mickey heads in WDW. A green lovely glow. I plan to use it to store my disney spreadsheets on. Kinda handy, yes?

I also made a countdown for the trip.

We are now at 47 days left! :cool1:

The last couple weeks have been rough. I got sick and had to sit out a few of my runs. I truly thought I might have the plague.

At the end of the first week of being ill though, things began to look up and I got to have another dismeet with eandesmom! Sorry...no pics. We both had been dealing with the plague... probably best we didn't get too close to each other just in case my plague was not the same as hers. Especially since we both had our own races the next day!

The race the next day about killed me. I did do better than I did last year on this same course...but it was not at all my best for this distance. I got through it though and went home to run an additional 4 miles. (gotta get those miles back up for January) The great thing about this race was that participants were fed pancakes, eggs and BACON afterward. Oh..and coffee and oj. LOVED the OJ!!!

This week I didn't miss any runs...but have been slowly getting better. Still pretty sluggish and sniffling... my pace suffers, but I am getting back those miles.

Zoe is almost back to where we started presurgery. For those of you who remember- she had surgery right before I left in September for WDW. It was the surgeons final attempt at fixing her existing channel before we had to take a more drastic approach. For the first month things were better than expected. Then the next month we found that the silicone implant shifted.. Now as we are into the third month... she is back to needing to use an L tube. :sad2: I really had hoped that could be avoided. The implant...well that is an easy enough refix.... just more silicone injected into the right space. That would be a day procedure with little recovery time. The other... it means the surgeon will now insist on moving her channel to a new location as well as creating a new one. It will mean a summer lost again... A surgery that will take all day followed by weeks in the hospital and weeks of recovery once home. In the end... I suspect it too will fail. It is just how her body reacts. She has been unable to have pierced ears for the same reason. Her body closes up any channel... the healing process is strong in her. ;) It is what it is though... she is a trooper and rolls with it all. :goodvibes

I hope you are feeling well now. I know this has been a doozy for me! I finally am starting to feel close to 100%. I got a longish run in today (7 miles) I hope to get back on track since the Donald is just around the corner for me.

Slowly but surely. I was happy not to cough up a lung last Saturday. It was not a 5K, I've looked at that map a bunch of times and at best it was about 2.86 miles. Which isn't a big deal other than given the length, I'd have liked to be faster lol. I'd have been quite pleased with my time if it really was a 5K as I'd have beaten that 10K time by quite a bit. Instead..I was a bit slower though not horribly given the cold. Oh well. :lmao: It was definitely a fun run, very different vibe from the 10K. Since I've only 2 data points that was interesting. It did impact my speed I think. Interesting to be on an open course during it...we spread out so quickly that it wasn't like being in a race, just that you were out on your own on a really pretty course.

I got in about 5 miles on Sunday, just didn't have time for more (and the cold definitely told me that the 5 was enough). The cold has lingered way more than I'd have liked, got out Weds but as it was during work, so didn't have time for more than 4 miles and was coughing too much to feel like doing more than that anyway. It's not even really the cough that's an issue, or runny nose...it's all the darn drainage...makes the breathing hard on the run itself...kind of feel like you are drowning. BLEH. Today will be a similar time crunch and the cough is still there so I guess it's good I have to compress it. I really hope that by Sunday I can get more than 5 in both health-wise and time wise. UGH! We have decided to do the 15K...I have until March but still, I need to get the miles up a little and realistically if I end up a day short per week due to the darkness (will be running in the dark tonight for at least part of it...we will see how THAT goes) and kids crazy schedules, what I do, needs to be a bit longer. I'd love to get 8 in on Sunday but time wise...it may not be feasible with all that's going on.

I hit 300 miles so that'd kind of cool. :goodvibes

My ankle hurt at the gym last night on the elliptical. Hopefully that was just a weird fluke, seems fine now but we will see how tonight goes.

DVC and DV card holders will likely get a tad jump start on registration. I am getting more excited about this race now. ;)

Yeah, it sounds like it will be open at the expo for folks doing the WDW half to sign up and will open for DVC and Disney Visa at the same time. Public about a week or so later. And we get what, $10 off? :lmao:

BTW rawthreads is having a flash 24 hour sale today and there are some castle to castle tees and tanks still :goodvibes

As you know, I made that call to member services. I think I now have a plan.. it really complicates things a tad when people have different ticket needs in a group.

Yes it does!

I made some. Actually... my spreadsheet is crazy right now! I have so many that I have to cancel. With fp+ and kira's plans... I had to do some serious finagling. Since I am hoping to copy mine to Steve , Alex and Zoe... I am also hoping that maybe I can copy some of hers.

GAH! The tiers showed up for your dates? I thought those were tests only through 12/29. I haven't tried to modify anything, had all ours in place before this started but it makes me very worried about trying to copy things over to my sisters and the nephews...if they all ever get their darn tickets!

So I asked this over on the restaurant boards... maybe some of you might venture to guess. You can read my question here

That's a darn good question. Certainly possible but it could really go either way.

that said...I wouldn't want to carry my mug around with me all day.

I saw the picture you were tagged in. It looked like a very pretty course! Even if it wasn't a true 5k... at least it was a nice event with a nice course. it is funny though isn't it how different events have different vibes?

Ug! I know what you mean. Definitely a drowning sort of feeling. I haven't been coughing much when running... and I almost always have a runny nose when I run in the cold... but that drainage. BLEH is right!!!

It sucks we don't have all the time in the world.... seems like something always has to give. :sad2: But... :cool1: for deciding on the 15k!!! You know I am a fan of organized events....

I hit 300 miles so that'd kind of cool. :goodvibes

that is very cool!!! :cool1::cool1:

My ankle hurt at the gym last night on the elliptical. Hopefully that was just a weird fluke, seems fine now but we will see how tonight goes.

oh no! I hope it is fine for you tonight!!!

Yeah, it sounds like it will be open at the expo for folks doing the WDW half to sign up and will open for DVC and Disney Visa at the same time. Public about a week or so later. And we get what, $10 off? :lmao:

I think it is $10... :rotfl2: I guess it is something. I will have to sign up at the expo then...

BTW rawthreads is having a flash 24 hour sale today and there are some castle to castle tees and tanks still :goodvibes

I saw that! They have some really cute things. I really wish I knew if it was going to be warm in January or not. I mean... there is a tank, tee and 3/4 length shirt that all would match the skirt I bought for the race. I did not buy a top at the same time just because I wanted to wait and see what the weather would be like. (figuring I could buy it at the WDW marathon expo) Now though... I thought about getting the 3/4 while it is on sale. Last I looked only an xsmall was available. It might work... but then again... I think a small would be a safer bet.

Another sale is skirt sports
I am not sure that you could wear their stuff though... and I can't see what materials they use. My guess though... not:sad2: It notes on one item "RunFast Jersey and Semi-Compression Mesh fabrics" What does that even mean?

GAH! The tiers showed up for your dates? I thought those were tests only through 12/29. I haven't tried to modify anything, had all ours in place before this started but it makes me very worried about trying to copy things over to my sisters and the nephews...if they all ever get their darn tickets!

Yep, it showed for my dates. :sad2:

That's a darn good question. Certainly possible but it could really go either way.

that said...I wouldn't want to carry my mug around with me all day.

:rotfl2: I had not even thought about carrying my mug around with me all day. And... it is a big stainless steel one to boot. :rotfl: I was so excited about this deal and now I am getting less and less so. Steve definitely doesn't want one. He said that he would be too afraid he would just buy a drink rather than use the mug. When I asked him why on earth he would do that.... he said "I will forget to bring my mug in and wash it.. and it will just sit in my car" Yeah... no mug for him. :rotfl:
