Tanya, we have our DIS family for just these times - we rant, we cry, we pray together - so ramble away!

I'm sorry you are going through this with your son. I've been through some "grandparent issues" with my oldest - and the favoritism thing, too.

My advice - don't push too hard with him, or he will run to the Grandma side and just resent you. Of course with lots of prayer, he will come out okay. It's just a painful process. Ours had to make some HUGE mistakes before he stopped listening to Grandpa and started making wiser decisions. Of course turning 28 probably helps.

It's not right of her to go behind your back and give him money when you are trying to help him be safe and smart. I'm sorry for your struggles with this.

28??? Oh gosh - mine is only turning 22! Actually things aren't awful. Ive had a strange relationship in my head with my mother my whole life. I think because we are so different, yet she was my only female relative, I thought I was supposed to be more like her. I tried that a little, it didn't work. So for awhile (as a teenager) I thought I hated her because "she just didn't understand me" When i had kids I did the typical "ask your mom" thing about every little issue that came up. Then somewhere along the line I decided that we were raised without curfews, without accountability of where we were or who we were with or when we would be home, and that we both took some wrong turns along the way because there were no road signs set up for us. So my kids had curfews - of a sort....not a definite "you need to be home at 9" set in stone type of thing, but a "where are you going, when is it over, ok - be back around 9" type. My husband was on the town board, and was mayor for several years here and in the process of that worked with our cop (yes, only 1 cop) closely and knew what the state curfews were and other various laws concerning kids. When my kids would spend the night at my folks they would stay out past legal curfew, my folks and my brother took them out driving before they had learner's permits. I would tell all involved that if the boys got caught they wouldnt be able to get their licenses until they were 18 instead of 16, but they did it anyway.

Granted, my kids still managed to get in trouble even with curfews and us knowing where they were supposed to be, but overall I think they have all turned out pretty good.

As for mom - well, I have decided she is who she is and at 70 I'm not going to change her. So there are topics I dont discuss with her. Which, since we have so little in common to begin with doesn't leave a lot of topics to discuss, so it does feel a little awkward sometimes. But - it is what it is and I just try to make the best of it, bite my tongue,.....and come on here to rant a little!

I just realized I never told you what the shirt was that I got for my scooter. I added that question to the list when I ordered it then forgot to tell you all about it.

My plan is to put this over the back seat of the scooter with a Beach towel somehow attached to it covering the seat portion. It is too hot sitting on those seats after it has sat out in the sun, but everytime I get off the towel would fall down and I'd have to re-do it. Taking just that much longer to get around and get moving again. So I am hoping that I can rig this up to keep the towel in place better. It should have the added bonuses of helping me pick my scooter out of a crowd when I park it, and answer any lingering questions as to why I am using the scooter in the first place.

Yeah - I pretty much just avoid topics, bite my tongue and try to remain neutral. I will never win with the two of them (my mom & Sean) because he will go where the gettings good and he is her little golden boy . I have two more at home still and he is 5 hours away most of the time anyway.

I had them all done up on an excel spreadsheet - but wasn't sure how that would work copying it on to here. I tried to copy it to Word first, but it kept the grids, then I tried copying it on here - and it worked! I was not looking forward to having to re-type all of them.

My consumer who is on dialysis says she is on the transplant list!!Sooo having no idea what that would entail ,we called and surprise , she is not yet on the list !!They explained there is a battery of tests first and we would know if she was on it !!! Once again she came home talking about getting a kidney transplant !!But I now know, long before that we will know and can make the necessary plans for THAT phone call !!It is a completely different set of rules and proceedures for the MR poulation and we would have to have all sorts of consents in place and a transportation plan and a staffing planNot to mention the care when she came home

The regular tests that I had to have done to be on/remain on the list were chest x-ray, ekg, stress test, dentist, mammogram and the "female" visit. I also had to initially meet with a social worker who told us about the financial part of it (medicare becomes primary at time of transplant or after so many months on dialysis) and offered to refer me to a psychologist if I needed to wrap my head around the concept of dialysis or a transplant. Other than that I had regular visits with my nephrologist, eventually they become monthly visits, and I had to have lab work done each month so it could be submitted to UNOS to match with any potential transplants.

I assume she will need to also have whatever complications would entail from whatever condition she has, and assurance that there would be somebody who will make sure she takes her meds on time and as directed.
