Well, nine days at Disney and now I'm back on Weight Watchers for sure!
We have some new favorites and won't be returning to some of our usuals for a while.
Flame Tree BBQ lunch: Ate here after riding EE twice. Great ribs and awesome view of EE! Enjoyed very much, especially for counter service which we rarely eat.
O'hana dinner: HUGE LETDOWN. We thought we'd like the changes but we hated the wonton chips, were disappointed in the size and flavor of the shrimp and were surprised that while the bread pudding was great, after all that meat we longed for the pineapple and carmel sauce. I also thought the wings were much saucier, which I didn't like so much and the peanut sauce didn't taste the same -- that was our favorite. We didn't like the other two sauces at all. The turkey and steak were fantastic, and we actually liked the sausage, but the pork was SO DRY! YUCK! We love the potatoes and the salad, too, but just weren't as impressed as other visits and won't be heading back here with so many other choices.
Olivia's breakfast: Always a favorite -- the ham and sweet potato hash is out of this world yummy!
Citricos dinner: WOW! This was amazing. We weren't too keen on going here because nothing on the menu really looked to our liking, but the meal was amazing. DH and I both had the swordfish and I had the acorn & butternut soup -- everything was great. We were a party of 13, and while they had to split us up, we loved every minute. Pastry Chef Erich Herbitschek's staff made a fanastastic rum and dark chocolate birthday cake for my father-in-law with the GF cigars on top -- delicious and BEAUTIFUL! And for those drinkers out there -- if you like Margaritas, try the apple one at Citricos. I had two and, well, had to be helped outside for the fireworks! Heehee!
Nine Dragons lunch: The usual, we shared dumplings, honey sesame chicken and shrimp with chinese vegetables. All was good and we'll keep coming back.
Wolfgang Puck dinner: Another favorite that was, again, terrific. DH had the BBQ Chicken pizza, I had the butternut soup and a sushi special (tuna and filet mignon with tempura crunch -- OH MY GOODNESS, the best sushi I've ever had!). We got a pumpkin cheesecake special to go for dessert. I recommend this place to everyone because it's fantastic food but very relaxed.
Fulton's lunch: This was great -- hadn't been in ages because of a bad meal and bad reviews. We sat on the bow of the Empress Lilly (she will always be that to us!). We shared the portabello fries, then DH had the fried rock shrimp and I had the crab club. All was wonderful on a beautiful afternoon!
Raglan Road dinner: DH loved his fish & chips. I liked my potato soup (can't remember the actual name), though I would have liked it more if it had "stuff" in it -- bacon and cabbage -- instead of more like a thick broth. I had the ribs with a side of cabbage and wasn't impressed with the ribs. But we will go back -- there are many other things on the menu I'd like to try! Oh -- and the bread and butter pudding was FANTASTIC! That alone is worth the trip.
Beaches & Cream lunch: Yummy as always. DH had a cheeseburger and I had the Roast Beef, which I hadn't had before. And we shared the No Way, Jose! All was great as usual.
Pecos Bill's dinner during Extra Magic Hours: We shared a burger and fries and a side of baked beans. All was good, but not as good as Beaches & Cream!
Rainforest Cafe breakfast at AK: Nice surprise. We got to AK about 45 minutes before opening, knowing EE would be opened to all guests for the first time. We were going to head to Tusker House but we were so early we decided to give Rainforest a try. Food was very good -- DH had eggs benedict and I had the oatmeal. All was great -- the bowl of oatmeal was HUGE. And we got our just in time to head to EE again!
ESPN Club lunch: Sat in the bar and played Playstation while we ate -- it was a LOT of fun. The place was very quiet and the chili and buffalo chicken sandwich were yummy. Nice place to relax when Disney is empty -- we could have stayed all day and no one would have cared!
Artist Point dinner: WOW! Another new favorite. We'd not been here before -- though we make reservations every trip, we just never get there. DH just had a filet, but really enjoyed it. I had the special with the portabello soup, salad with apples & cheddar, buffalo filet and "coffee two ways" for dessert. DH "helped" with the soup and dessert. Everything was fantastic and we'll be returning here again and again!
Boatwrights breakfast: Sweet potato pancakes were yummy. Service was terrible, but we'd eat here again on a morning we weren't in a hurry to get anywhere!
San Angel Inn dinner: DH loved his Tilapia and his Margarita (frozen mango I think). My filet was terrible -- in a mess of some brown grazy. The meat was very tender, but the gravy was nasty. I "shook off" the meat and added some salsa and the black beans, so it was edible. Also, the margarita wasn't very good this time. This was a usual favorite and since DH anjoyed his meal so much, we'll probably return, but I'll go back to my filet and shrimp meal as I think that's what I had last August and really enjoyed.
Yacht Club Galley breakfast: Great, simple food, but the service was terrible. Very disappointing. I ordered an egg white omelet with onion, pepper, mushroom, ham and cheddar. When the waiter came back to double check my order, I knew I was in trouble. First, they made it with regular eggs and the waiter sent that back and got it with egg whites, but when I went to eat it, it also had tomatoes, which I'm allergic to. Sent it back myself (and by now, DH was finished his pancakes) and the third time it was missing the ham. I told the waiter I was eating it but that it wasn't what I ordered. He brought me cold chopped up ham -- not what I wanted. To their credit, they didn't charge us for my breakfast, but what a disaster! Again, we'll return here as we always like the food, but on a morning that we're not in a hurry.
Teppanyaki late lunch: YUMMY! The service was great and the chef was from CT same as us. Serving swere plentiful and I also had the California Roll, which was very good. But I was surprised they didn't take DDE -- didn't check the list for this one, just assumed. Oh well, it was worth the money as our "farewell" meal.
I think that covers most of our meals. We stopped at Ghirardellis a few times -- they have a new dark chocolate sauce which was fanastic! I had it with the espresso chip ice cream and it was so rich!!! WOW!
I was also surprised to see that business casual included dressy shorts and jeans, according to a sign at Artist Point. Neither of these would be in my description of business casual, but made dining much easier for us because we didn't feel the need to change after the parks (we just wore jeans and collared shirts all day and were very comfortable at the restaurants with many people looking more "dressed down" than us). Of course, this is much easier done in January, than in August when you sweat all day.
Oh yeah, and EE was fantastic. We rode it 25 times!!!!
