So sad to see that you lost that beautiful apple tree - especially one that had family meaning

This hot weather has been tough on all of our plants this year. It seams like I can't keep up with the watering - the ground is like a big sponge and the water just disappears so quickly. I water early before work and by dinner time everything is parched beyond belief.

It's bad. The flowers are really taking a hit. Worried about leaving for WDW and coming back to dead plants I repotted some plants and hanging baskets with fresh soil and lined them with "use your imagination". It's workingThey'll hold water for days.

Tried to transplant some romaine lettuce heads that I started from seed on Memorial Day. Not a good idea.

The six I tried to move are not having a good time of it.

I'm happy to report that my vegie garden is doing great. We've picked a few things so far. This heat is doing a number on them, but I water often and they are hanging in. Spent 2 days last week weeding the garden, it looks so much better now, but my knees hurt and my back got sunburnt...but it will be worth it. This is the first time that I planted green beans, I'm excited to see how they come out.

D***ned woodchucks!!!!

Beans and brussels sprouts are pretty much gone. All I have left is tomatoes, zucchini, and onions. Guess we're eating woodchuck Italian-style.

that looks like a lilac bush to me I'd cut out the dead wood, suckers and trim anything that's rubbing against the house but not a hard cutback.

Thx for the suggestion, Deb The dummy that I am, I never even thought to cut it back from rubbing the house.

That looks like it might be "Rose Of Sharon". Here are some pics of mine to compare.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner! Yes, it's the same. Thx a mint for posting the pic! I like those 2 and will just trim them square at the top and sides near the house. Trimmed the front already.

So sorry to hear it toppled over. I've never had a fruit tree before - it was pretty cool to see yours with actual fruit on it. I'm sure your family will still have good memories of planting and enjoying apple pies

I had to wiki woodchucks last year to figure out what they were after a whole family of rodents had a fun time poking their heads out from under our barn and watching us. I ended up trapping 6 or 7 before they were finally gone. I was not a happy camper and of course DH wanted nothing to do with the trap (even tho we just phoned animal control and they took them to be released somewhere in the woods - literally, not a euphemism) and it took weeks

Hi Karen. Less hotter (was going to say cooler but it just doesn't sound right) out this morning but humidity is still high.

My squash is behind some of the others here but it is on the charge now. Need to get some weeding done and fix a hose tonight. Heat or no heat!

The ancho chile pepper below is oh so close to being stuffed and roasted. Can't decide if I'm going to do mushrooms, onions, & cheese, or a risotto based stuffing. : Maybe all of it. It needs to get a bit bigger so I can call it a meal.

Below are my Ace bell pepper plants and a couple are getting to be good size. I'm holding off until they turn red hopefully in another 25 - 30 days.

Nothing has been harvested yet. I have a feeling it will all be ready at once. Lots of squash growing. I have 1 hot pepper that may get picked this week. Cucumbers are doing well. They really need a trellis of some sort. Corn tassles are starting too. Oh, and lots of tomatoes.

Picked our first tomato last night - a big yellow one! I'll try to remember to get a picture of it before we slice it and devour it with dinner tonight!

I got a handful of beans before Mr. W. Chuck came to dine. Had plenty of lettuce before the heat and the bunnies got to that, too. And peas came and went pretty early. Some success, anyway.

So far we haven't had any critters in the veggies - last year the bunnies had a field day with all the blossoms.

Zucchini are flowering, but no productivity as of yet.

The cherry tomatoes, roma, beef steak, etc have finally fruited.

I have two heirloom tomato plants, the one called "Black Krim" has finally produced one little baby - I was so happy when I saw it this morning I squirted myself with hose while leaning over to get a closer look
My other heirloom is a "Colorado Purple" - no fruits yet - but it is a later variety so my fingers are still crossed on that one.

All of the flowers are doing great. Of course I'm sleep deprived with having to get up early and go out and water everything.
Rain is in the forecast for tomorrow - Can't believe I'm looking forward to a rainy day
