The Fixer and The Cookmaster:major pixie dust*IT'S FINISHED*EPILOGUE UP!!#389

Just to make sure you all know who's who in these (and I sooo appreciate your kind words, horsegirl!), the CookMaster (much better hair than mine) and her family are in the bus pic, and I am on the right in the pic of us at Ohana. My boys are blondie-ish, but it is amazing people say they look like me all the time! They say familes tend to look alike after awhile. We always say that one of the great blessings of adopting our children is that they are better looking than we are:)!!!

Gotcha! and i'm with the last part!

I'm loving your TR. I can't wait to ride EE. Everyone has such good things to say about the ride.
A question for you: We're going with a big group (16) in Dec. and I'm wondering about meals. I think we will only eat dinner together as a group. How crazy was dinner for y'all?

Thanks Libby!

Well, with eight in our group this year dinners were great and we almost always sat at one nice big table. We split with the kids once (at the next table at Prime Time) , but that was fine. It was a bit more complicated last May when there were 14 of us. We had to split tables most meals. It was fine because we actually put the kids at separate tables from us (!) but they ranged in age from 13 down to almost 6 and did very very well, I must say. It didn't hurt that we threatened and glared from the next table and I don't mind saying that only three of eight kids were boys  . When you call to make your ADRs for a party over 13 (I think that's the #), you will be transferred to the Grand Gathering dept--at least that's what I did for last year's ADRs. PM me if you want to know more details. Have fun planning!

Next chapter coming Monday, God willing!

Ummm, it's Monday. I am not-so-patiently waiting. TICK TOCK TICK TOCK!

Great report! I'm afraid I'm gonna get so confused reading all these reports that I'll forget one of them and won't finish it! :teeth: We're staying at the Poly in May....can't wait!!!

I go away for a few days and I miss the Cinderellabration meet and greet.... Ok - I'm hooked to this report now....

Keep them coming as they are great reports. I was there during the same time you were there and it was cold in the mornings. I applaud you for riding Splash Mountain in that weather... you go girl... :cheer2:

Can't wait for the next installment... did I mention it is Monday already....

Part 8, still Day 4

After a full blown CS meal (thanks DDP) at Pizzayucky, we followed the CookMaster’s magic friend’s instructions to get to Lion King by 1:40. The CookMaster walked right up to the entrance and announced we were there to check in for special seating per her friend. That cast member gave us the blankest stare I’ve ever seen. We tried to recreate it here:

She suggested we go to the show’s EXIT door. Fine. Yes, fine if you are a salmon swimming upstream to spawn!! It was like that scene in Indiana Jones where Indy is trying to find Marion amid all the basket heads! 100,000 people had just exited the 1:00 Lion King. I thought the DHs were going to K-I-L-L us. We did reach the exit and were ushered in to front row seating in the Warthog section!
DSC00151.jpg

We couldn’t believe it!!

Our need to be entertained was strongly fulfilled when the show’s queen (“The Gift”) honed right in on the CarpetMaster!!! He HATES attention!! I told you he’s ‘not much of a hugger.’ He wears a sign that says Under No Circumstances Pick Me. So, we hit the jackpot when The Gift put the microphone right in front of him and asked, “What’s your name?” Without missing a beat he replied, “Cledus.”

I know you smarties realize that’s not his real name. He always answers “Cledus”, though, to be funny. Cledus. Cleedus. Kleatus. Cleatus. I told you we never figured out how to spell it. Anyway, that’s how he orders at Starbucks, too. Cledus B. Gatelatch. That’s his stage name, as it were. That’s his George-Costanza–telling-strangers-he’s-an-architect name. It got better, too, because that Queen pulled Cledus out of the audience to teach the Warthog section how to warthog!

I thought the boys would fall on the floor with laughter!! DH, the CookMaster and I were in pain from laughing. The entire scene was another of so many many magical moments we experienced on this trip of a lifetime.

After the show, we were escorted (!) backstage for our second superfantabulous meet-and greet. You can see that the CookMaster had hugs for The Other Woman in Cledus’ life.
DSC00161.jpg

By now, we are seasoned veterans of the hooty-hoo Disney backstage meet-and-greet. DH and Cledus thought it was sooo funny to tease and mock us over our excitement. Cledus is a gleeper. Cledus says he gleeps as a way of watching fans admire others' work. Watching wives and kids fawn over characters is gleeping. He gleeped backstage at the Grand Ole Opry and the other shows when the CookMaster was a famous singer-star, so he’s a practiced gleeper now. He demonstrated gleeping for us:

The cast could not have been kinder. Their costumes are fantastic!
DSC00162.jpg

They clearly love to perform and many have been doing this show for years. We were so very grateful for the opportunity to meet them and thank them for their gifts of entertainment!

Yes, a short chapter but I have to get my boys to some fields to kick and bat some balls. I had to post since I promised Monday and SOME PEOPLE are holding me to it!

Much more to come! NEXT chapter: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=12287140&postcount=79

:thumbsup2 Whew! I was getting a little nervous there wasn't going to be more today!

Thanks for laying my fears to rest! Another great installment! :Pinkbounc

The "gleep" pose is HYSTERICAL! I love your pictures! You all sound like you had a wonderful time. Keep those great reports comin'!

Sigh...DH just read the most recent chapters and wants me to tell the readers two things:
--he admits to oversleeping and stinking up the bathroom and now apologizes for both errors and
--he further explained (corrected) the definition of gleeping. Let it be noted the last chapter has been edited to rectify the error.

Coming in tomorrow's chapter: California Grill, Lemon Drops, and MGM!

I don't know which I'm more jealous of - the hooty-tooty character meets or the hair...

Thanks for writing!! :hippie:

These meets you are getting are unbelievable :thumbsup2
I am very happy for you, but sad for me, cause I wasn't there. The pictures are the best. This will be a trip that goes down in history.

My next trip I am picking up a CM and making them my new best friend. :rotfl:

My next trip I am picking up a CM and making them my new best friend.

Yes!! Forget ADRs, planning your days and dealing with clueless CMs. Just sincerely befriend the first one you see:)! Perhaps if you do their laundry you will be a friend for life.

We are so humble and grateful for the CookMaster's magic. The meet-and-greets were terrific but the best part of the trip was the magical environment created by Disney on a vacation with family and friends.

I'm swamped.
More tomorrow...

i love love love the pictures you include in your storey, they just make me feel like i was there too! looking forward to more!

knock knock!
Who's there?
Jamal
She is? Where? She's not here.....she's not on this thread providing more humor and pix and inspiring trendy hairstyles.

Jamal, no pressure, but some of your fans are waiting!

Thanks. I've been working on the next installment. It's a little wordy :smooth: but it might actually get you kind souls through day four of ten! The encouragement definitely helps motivate!

Part 9, Day 4 (yes, still)

First, a refresher on The Cast :
Me, The Fixer (because I fix problems and situations, not things), Jam, Jamal, 42 year-old obsessive Disney planner, wife and mom
DH 44, Baloo! Told me early in our dating he wanted to honeymoon at Disney. Shrek (sorry, but he is…an ogre with a heart! Everyone calls him Shrek. We’ve never been to Universal so don’t flame me.), Mr. Incredible, too.
DS11, A, Calvin AND Hobbes, sweet, the imagineer, black belt, lives for Disney magic, Cal, has firm plans to work for Disney. Not a greedy spender like his brother…
DS6, E, Schmev, made of steel but terrified of Splash Mountain, Happy, Golden Sunshine, Buff. Greedy little joker....

Our friends: They will be known as The Gatelatch family. Explanations to come! CookMaster, GS12, GS9 (Gatelatch sons)
The CookMaster, became my friend through our sons’ friendship. Songbird and lover-of-life, has zesty hair, Scoutmaster, The Magician (you’ll see!!!)
Cledus B. Gatelatch: The RugDoctor, Aladdin, can’t vacation more than 6 days.
Their DS12, or GS12, actor and awesome kid, Boy Scout, Captain Hook, terrific friend to my A!
Their DS9, or GS9, comic book writer extraordinaire, Beat, C, has written two hilarious comic books about “The Fixer” (me) and “The CookMaster” (his mom). More on that later!!!

We're still in AK. After the meet-and-greet with Simba's beautiful posse, we're back among the citizens of Harambe. Brother Bear is here, too:

DSC00168.jpg

Rode the Yeti again. Some of us rode it three times that day! One of us, age six, was only interested in the spelunking AK hat from the Dinosaur ride. That ride scares me to death! Three boys, not the six year old, did Kali. The CookMaster and I passed, still cringing from our meet-and-greet with Splash three days earlier. DH and Cledus took E back to the Poly for a nap. They’ll take any excuse to recline, channel surf, and get their $$s worth of that expensive Poly AC . Once we were all home (I’m sticking with that term), the boys swam and fed me trip report notes. They went something like this:

Am I in there?
What did you say about me?
Tell the part about when Dad…
Will we be famous if we are on the Internet?
Am I in there?
Am I in there more than my brother/mother/father?

A couple of hours of that nonsense and it was time to monorail over to California Grill! I love that place. It’ll suck up some dollars and TS credits, but it is a fabulouso vacation treat. Here’s some reminiscing for you history buffs: DH and I ate dinner there when it was a Broadway-style dinner and show on our 1988 honeymoon. We have great memories of a romantic front row dinner show. Last year, our Magical Gathering of fourteen had a terrific dinner and Wishes at California Grill. It’s a highlight of the trip!

On this night, we had a glass of wine at the Poly before we left. When we reached the restaurant, Cledus offered to buy us an adult beverage. DH doesn’t drink, but I quickly replied: lemon drop! Mmmmm. You Cosmopolitan fans surely know a lemon drop is a smooth lemonade tasting martini. This one was chilled, sugar-rimmed, and delicious-a! The CookMaster had one, too; we quickly had the sillies. Our excellent waiter, Billy, seated us by the window and told us all about the observation decks. We had, of course, perfectly timed our ADR for Wishes.

I have to take a minute away from the food to share a heartfelt confession: I am a Wishes addict. I know many many many guests are die-hard Illuminations fans. That’s wonderful as it is a superb show. For me, though, Wishes is everything I love about Disney in one 25 minute emotional grip. I never ever tire of it. I know it by heart, but it still makes my heart race from start to finish. Please, go ahead and call me a sap. I’ll wait .....................……………………………….....................................................................................................................................................................................
I might as well go ahead and share with thousands of strangers that I could watch The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie all day, too. True.

So when we are at Disney, DH is happy for me to plan as many Wishes opportunities as possible because he knows how much it means to me. He and the boys absolutely love it, too. OK, since I have your attention I’ll tell you one more sappy story. Last May, we were on Main Street for Wishes our final evening. We spent a few minutes in one of the stores so I could choose more Mickey earrings. When we made our way to the middle of Main Street as the show began, DH announced he had to go to the bathroom. I know, TMI, but you have to know I was shocked! Leaving Wishes? OK, hurry!! So the boys and I savored the show, watching for Dad, until he returned just before the end. We walked to the sidewalk so I could wipe my tears. I thanked him again for the trip. I thanked my family for being my family. DH looked at the boys and thanked me for planning such a wonderful trip. Then he gave me a box. It held a beautiful cloisonné Mickey bracelet. It’s tough to surprise me, but he did that night. I cherish that bracelet and my memories of that evening. Now I love Wishes even more.

Back to the Lemon Drops. By the time we stepped out to the observation deck, mine was all soaked in. I was so excited to see Wishes with my friends! It was perfect. So perfect, in fact, the GS9, my dear friend and comic book author, choked up. OK, we bonded in emotion in the music and beauty of Wishes. Here we are consoling each other back inside with our yummy hot dinner on the way:

DSC00182.jpg

The CookMaster felt the love from her Lemon Drop too. By the end of the night, Cledus declared he had been ‘overserved’ (one of his trademark lines). A took his picture where he mocked his feelings about being the warthog leader:

DSC00172.jpg

A and GS12 decided to become instant foodies and ordered the hooty-hoo cheese plate. They sampled like seasoned veterans:

DSC00176.jpg

The food was superb, the laughter and tears plentiful and the memories lasting. I know some women fantasize their man might whisk them somewhere exotic for an anniversary dinner. Give me California Grill with Wishes on tap and you’ve got me forever…

Day Four totals—
Meltdowns: Six
Fights: ½ --It was into a cell phone so we couldn’t count the other party, but it was a doozy!

Coming on Day 5: MGM, spring training, hate and sin, and…another Meet-and-Greet?

Is it only the end of day four? I have six more days to share! Hang in there. Here. OK?

aaaawwwwwwwwwwwww that was just a little teaser!!!

i am sitting back and waiting for the rest of the show!!! :3dglasses
