The first DIS Unplugged Fantasy Football League is Over!!! (Post #25 League champs!)

So, now that I was mathematically eliminated in both leagues, both of my teams won...and got high score in one to boot.

At least none of my players accidentally shot themselves. Which is surprising for my players.

And there is just something amusing about QBs this season. Derek Anderson lost the starting position a SECOND time this season with an injury.

But anyways, the regular season is over, and congratulations to the Intergalactic Space Rangers and Brother Bears as the regular season champs, along with runners up Team Fellure and Mushu Maniacs, who all get first round byes in the playoffs this week.

First off, the results this week.

We have a Dragonslayer in the MKC!!!! For the first time this season in either league, the resident expert went down by 20 points, with the Intergalactic Space Rangers losing to Carousel of Doom, 107-87. CoD also took the high points for the week. Low points went to Plutes Cowboys, who went down to the Disney Dole Whips 69-55.

In the ECC, High points went to yours truly, with the Jungle Cruise Skippers defeating Stinky Pete, 131-88. Low points was a tough race to the bottom, but the Disney Chiefs came out lower than anyone else with 34.

So the playoffs are set as follows:

MKC:
First round bye: #1 Space Rangers, #2 Team Fellure

#5 Carousel of Doom vs. #4 Team magic knights
#6 Disney Dole Whips vs. #3 Boardwalk Buskers

ECC:
First round bye: #1 Brother Bears, #2 Mushu Maniacs

#5 Wheezy's Warriors vs. #4 Dark Helmet's Minions
#6 Stinky Pete vs. #3 Liberty Tree Touchdowns

Note that everyone still plays, for pride if nothing else. Except, oddly enough, the teams on a bye. They can pretend they are against each other...

Onwards...

O.J. finally went to jail, but basically for being an idiot. Wonder if
Plaxico might keep him company soon. Frankly, half the NFL could be
charged for being idiots, but the union won't allow that. Apparently
they won't allow a clause in the player contracts that allows and "Idiot
Reserve" designation either.

Is it me or do professional players have an increasing amount of, "Oh!
You wanted me to PLAY for that gazillion dollar contract you gave me?
Talk to me next week..." attitude? And the union defends it. "You can't
suspend him! He said he didn't feel like playing - that means he is
emotionally injured..." Come on owners, I'll take minimum pay for a
player and sit on a bench. You'll save a ton of money, and I'll be
happier. I can also play the disgruntled, "I don't like my role"
attitude with the press if you wanted some sound bites for the 6 o'clock
news. All press is good press, right?

I'll focus on the teams in the playoffs...I'm also going to forgo the
typical weekly awards, since at least for teams not in the playoffs less
attention may be paid to the rosters.

In the Magic Kingdom Conference, #3 Boardwalk Buskers Got Dole Whipped.
#6 Disney Dole Whips won 120 to 57, thanks to an overall strong team led
by the Steelers D/ST, and the fact that the Chargers could run at will
over the Raiders, leaving Antonio Gates without a catch.

In the other game, #4 Team magic knights continues to run through the
veterans, taking #5 Carousel of Doom for a spin and leaving them in the
"seasonal" category, 109-68. Brian Westbrook, 1st overall in every 2009
fantasy draft. The 32 points left on CoD's bench in the form of Antonio
Bryant wouldn't have covered it.

Next weeks matchups will be #1 Intergalactic Space Rangers trying to
vaporize Team magic knights, while #2 Team Fellure attempts to melt the
Dole Whips.

The ECC games were a little closer, with #4 Dark Helmet's Minions use of
the Schwartz to come from behind beat #5 Wheezy's Warriors in a squeaker
(ba dum bump), 94-88. Something about DeAngelo Williams. And who had
Jonathan Stewart? Oh, yeah. Me. On the Bench. Next to Antonio
Bryant...when was the last time two back's on the SAME TEAM scored more
than 20 points each?

The #3 Liberty Tree Touchdowns spiked #6 Stinky Pete and packed him for
Japan, 85-56. And just to add insult to injury, Pete's top RB this week
was Peyton Hillis, now on the IR with a torn hamstring.

So the matchups are #1 Brother Bears hunting the Spaceball-er, Minions,
and #2 Mushu Maniacs trying to make Pork Balls of the Touchdowns.

Sorry this is a day late...had lots of things to do after the ice storm...

There were a couple of upsets this week in the playoffs. First off, in the Magic Kingdom Conference:

#1 Intergalactic Space Rangers defeated the #4 Team magic knights 94-57, thanks to a strong overall performance from the Rangers led by Steve Smith. Our rookie upstart from the old country will finish no worse than a very respectable 4th, not bad for someone who wasn't even sure what the positions were when we started...

In the other semifinal, #2 Team Fellure was upset by the #6 Disney Dole Whips 111-104, thanks to strong performances from Matt "Tom Who?" Cassel and Pierre Thomas.

So the Magic Kingdom Conference Championship game will be between the Intergalactic Space Rangers and the Disney Dole Whips.

Over in the horribly low-scoring EPCOT Center, the #1 Brother Bears lost in a major upset to #4 Dark Helmet's Minions, 77-60, thanks to the whopping 14 point performances from DeAngelo "It's still my job" Williams and Rob Bironas.

The Helmet's will take on #2 Mushu Maniacs, who defeated the #3 Liberty Tree Touchdowns 81-68, behind the 12 point performances of Kurt "Call me MVP" Warner and LaDanian "I'm not Shaun Alexander" Tomlinson. This despite the Touchdowns having three players scoring 13 points. And I think its the first time that the resident expert's bench outscored his active players. It also means that our resident expert won't be facing himself in the DISboards Bowl...

The Conference Championships begin tomorrow with IND vs. JAX. Good luck to the teams!

The conference champions have been crowned!

The Magic Kingdom Conference winner was Intergalatic Space Rangers (Paging Tom Morrow), defeating the Disney Dole Whips 83-76 and finishing 10-3.

The EPCOT Center Conference was taken by the Mushu Maniacs (Alztybrn) with a last minute surge to stay ahead of Dark Helmet's Minions, 109-98.

Congrats to the champions, who will face off against each other this Sunday for the ultimate bragging rights! And thanks to all who participated!

Congratulations to the Mushu Maniacs (Alztybrn) for winning the first annual DIS Unplugged Fantasy Football League!

The Maniacs faced off against the pre-season favorites Intergalactic Space Rangers (Paging Tom Morrow) in an always-tough Week 17 match - you never know who is really going to play, and who is being shelved to be saved for the playoffs.

Since the teams competed in separate conferences (leagues in the computer system), the rules were that the two teams could use their current team players or any free agents available in their respective leagues. This could have resulted in duplication of some players, but that didn't happen.

Unfortunately, the Rangers were unable to play their top 2 draft picks (Marshawn Lynch was out, and Frank Gore was uncertain and not playing for anything). In the meantime the Maniacs had several top-notch players available and also sunk all his chips with the San Diego Chargers, playing 4 players and a favorable matchup. In the end, the results were:

Intergalactic Space Rangers
Player Team Position Points
Tyler Thigpen KCC QB 9
Fred Jackson BUF RB 13
Steve Slaton HOU RB 16
Steve Smith CAR RB/WR 13
Calvin Johnson DET WR 22
Brandon Marshall DEN WR 5
Dustin Keller NYJ TE 2
Patriots NEP D/ST 14
Matt Bryant TBB K 6

Total 100

Mushu Maniacs
Player Team Position Points
Donovan McNabb PHI QB 21
LaDanian Tomlinson SDC RB 27
Matt Forte CHI RB 7
Larry Fitzgerald ARI RB/WR 25
Hines Ward PIT WR 7
Chris Chambers SDC WR 5
Antonio Gates SDC TE 4
Ravens BAL D/ST 15
Nate Kaeding SDC K 10

Total 121

Congratulations to the champions and the runners-up, and all the teams that participated - this was a fun friendly league with all skill levels participating equally. It's too bad we have to wait 8 months to do it again...

...or do we? There is rumbling in the ranks about the Boys of Summer...

And apologies to the wife of lawsonsontour for having occupied her husband's weekends for several months...
