The Fabby LapuLapuettes Part IV: My Pineapple Needs a Refill!

Oh, I passed out at 9, I was such a lightweight! Didn't even have a drop of champagne. Ah well. It was a very nice evening though, we all watched Kung Fu Panda, and had Chinese take out. When that was over, DS wanted to watch Wall E and even though it wouldn't be done until later, I told DH let's just let him, it's New Years.

So it wasn't the evening we had planned, but it was very nice nevertheless.

It does sound like a very nice evening. :thumbsup2

Good morning ladies. Ok we (my dh and I) are supposed to go to WDW in May for our 10 anniversary trip. We are planning on leaving our little princess with my parents. However now I want to bring her. I would have to change our trip until September or October so I can come up with the money to bring her. My friends keep telling me that I should wait and bring her when she is older because she won't appreciate and/or remember the trip. Well I don't agree with that. I know she would remember it. So what do you guys think. Tk doesn't your son remember things from your trip? I have been feeling like this for the past few weeks, my dh doesn't know that I have the May trip scheduled so it wouldn't be a big deal to change it. Plus last night we were watching the Disney shows on Travel Channel and she saw Mickey and said, "Hi Mickey, this is Lexi's house." She also told him she was coming to see him at his house. She keeps asking my dh to take her there whenever she sees the castle. She has asked him about every day this past week. I didn't even know this until last night when dh told me she had been asking. So what do you guys think? Wow this is a long post.

Sweetie, am I remembering correctly that your daughter is around 3 years old?

I'm probably the worst person to talk to about this. My son has been every single year since he was born. The first time he went, he was about eight months old. Now that was a hard trip. But let me tell you something.

It is not about whether or not your daughter will remember. It's about whether or not you will.

I have made some incredible memories with my family in Disney World. And some of the best ones are from when we started taking my son. Now is it hard to have a toddler at Disney? Oh sure. But is it hard to have a toddler at home? Oh sure! ;)

For me, it's not about what he'll remember, it's about what I will. And I know that I'm doing something that is important to me and my husband, and that's spending quality time together as a family. People seem to have this notion in their heads that because it's Disney World, it has to be the absolute, it must be perfect, it must be such and such. Seriously, do people ask you why you take your daughter to the zoo? Or to the beach? Or to the park? I mean, if they won't remember it, why do we do it?

To make them happy. To make us happy.

As far as finances, you know what you're comfortable with. And I'm a big proponent of time alone with my husband, too, but if you feel in your heart that you're going to spend the whole time missing her, then it's not worth it to leave her at home.

Sorry about the diatribe! I guess this is kind of a can of worms you've opened with me, because people have said the same thing to me. And in the words of LL, I say "PFFT!"

And on a side note, my son does remember our trips. He actually has an excellent memory in general. Just the other day, we were driving past Babies R Us, and he told me, "Aunt _______" and proceeded to tell me about how we met one of my sister in laws there.

That was over 2 years ago, when she was pregnant with my first niece. So is his memory pretty good? Yes. Does he remember things about Disney? Oh yes! And is it totally worth it to take your child even if they won't remember it? In my mind, yes. Because I will, and I do.

And if my as yet unspeakable birthday is teaching me anything, along with a whole new year, it's that life is too short to worry about what other people think and not just be who I am. I'm trying to put that into practice.

Go with your gut, and you can't go wrong.

DITTO!!!!!!!

Sorry about the mad face, but this is a sore point with me. My MIL is in that camp and it just drives me bats. Of course my kids are older now, but my youngest was only 2 when we took our first family trip so I had to hear about it then. You know what?....DH and I have TONS of GREAT FAMILY MEMORIES from that trip!

If YOU want to take her, TAKE HER! You'll have a blast and will never regret it!:thumbsup2

Thanks TK. Our princess: will be 4 the middle of August. I am pretty sure I will change our trip. I know that she will be a toddler anywhere. ;) I know that we would miss her the whole time and think of the things she would love. She too has a good memory and was just telling me as we were driving over a bridge that she had gone swimming with Bumpa in the river. She did go swimming in the river with my dad but that was over a year ago. I know that we can afford the trip but as I am paying for it with out my dh knowing it is taking me a little longer but I hear the codes are supposed to be great the second half of the year. Thanks for "listening".

Happy New Year, Everyone!!!!

Well here I am ladies. I have been distracted from the dis by the Sookie books. Monday night my dh said I could go and have the evening to myself. I had a gift card for b&n and saw a huge display of them so I got the first 2. I am loving them. Hope everyone has a great New Years.

:yay: Books 3 & 4 were my favorite, I think... Last night I watched the True Blood marathon on HBO

It is not about whether or not your daughter will remember. It's about whether or not you will.

I can't agree more! DD4 has been to WDW 3 times in her life. She has at least fuzzy memories of all our trips but I have wonderful, last a lifetime, tug-at-your-heart, make-you-realize-why-you-wanted-to-be-a-mom moments from each trip. If you want to take her and can swing it, take her! She can make memories later for her to remember. Walt Disney World isn't going anywhere.

I don't have HBO so I have to wait until they come out on dvd or I babysit someone who has HBO. Is the series as good as the books? I only have read the first 2 and there is an incredible wait for them at our library. Does anyone have the rest of the series they want to mail to me? I will pay for the shipping if you want and mail them back to you when I am finished reading them to you.

I have a good portion of the books. Let me go see which ones I have. I think I am missing one or two of the books between 3-8 and have the majority of them. I would have no problem mailing them to you. :thumbsup2

I have them all and would be willing to send them... I just have to check with a co-worker on Monday who may have dibs on borrowing them... she has lypmhodema (sp?) and is going to be out of work for a month having a stem cell transplant and may want to borrow them... otherwise I can send them out Tuesday...

I turned HBO on just to feed my Sookie Stackhouse obsession so I could record the shows... which I did last night. So now I can turn it off again... except season 2 of Flight of the Concords starts soon... sigh and then Big Love and then TrueBlood again so maybe I'll just spoil myself for a little while...

Do I need to read them in order or can I skip around?

Do I need to read them in order or can I skip around?

I have skipped around and I think it would be okay, too. There are a couple of storylines that would be nice to read in order, but it hasn't bothered me too much.

i agree...

Ideally, I would read them in order but that has to do more with back stories and sub-plots than any of each individual novel's mystery... you might find out of order, who is sleeping with who or something like that but nothing too major...

A beacon, people... send a sister a beacon, will ya?!

Happy New Years Day! Guess what I got to do today? GUESS!

I bought a water heater.

Exciting, huh? We still have to have it installed but it's purchased, and that's half the battle!

I hope everyone had a good New Years Eve! I spent it with my teen and tween watching Miley Cyrus and Ryan Seacrest whilst drinking sparkling cider and nibbling finger food.

I'm just a party animal.

I'm glad you're taking her! (BTW- we have a Lexi in our house, too!) Who CARES if she remembers it or not in 1, 5 or 20 years... the experience alone of watching her enjoy all that magic is so going to be worth it!

 Thank you so much for all the invaluable advice, it is much appreciated. I am transferingfrom your post to my wee file of trip info as we speak:thumbsup2 . BTW do you have any picies of OKW you could post for me?

I don't remember how many I have from the June trip, but I will go digging through the picture files and post whatever I can!!! We were really happy with our stay there!!!

Okay, I know you already changed your mind, but I REALLY want to put in my two cents too---TAKE HER!!! The first time we took Megs, she was 12 days shy of turning 3---we didn't know what to expect, but all our expectations were far exceeded. It truly is the best trip anywhere Tom and I have ever taken---the complete joy from watching it through her eyes was priceless---and truly moments and experiences that we will never forget. She does remember things about that trip---will she in 20 years, I don't know. But I do know one thing, I will never forget that trip as long as I live and it was worth every penny spent to take her there then. I will NEVER regret it as long as I live!!!

It is not about whether or not your daughter will remember. It's about whether or not you will.

EXACTLY my dear!!!! Couldn't have said it better myself!

Happy New Year all my lovely Lapuettes!!! We enjoyed ringing in the new year as we always do---at the annual NYE party at our friends' home. It is a good time for all--especially with all our little kiddos running around at it now!!! I hope all our 2009s are filled with much happiness, good health for all of us, and LOTS OF FUN!!!

Wishing all the Lapu Lapuettes a Fabby 2009....health, happiness and prosperity to you all girlies:grouphug:

Happy New Year everyone!

Hope everyone is having a great New Year so far. Mine was very low key. I had to work that day at my FT job. I really just wanted to go home and veg on the sofa all night, but my folks don't seem to understand that way of thinking. They were nice enough to offer me a ride from my car to the train station (I had forgotten my snow boots at home :headache: ), and got dragged along for dinner at TGI Fridays. I put my foot down on going home after that. They were off to see a movie, and I really just wanted to see my sofa at that point. (I am so not a New Year's person). I happily spent the rest of the night watching Sydney White while updating my Ravelry account.

Yesterday I was stuck working all day (11-10) at the movie theater. It was crazy busy! The line didn't stop until about 8pm or so. My poor feet were so tired at the end of the night.

Today I had to come into my FT job. :headache: I have a feeling it's going to be dead today. Out of the 7 people in my department, only 3 of us are coming in today. I'm thinking, as long as it's not too cold out today, I want to walk up to World of Disney today and put some money on my gift card. I'm a week or two behind, and want to update before I forget about it.

My dd's name is Alexia, I was already calling her Lexi before she was born but dh refused. He insisted her name was Alexia that is what he called her. Well after she was about 3 months old he slipped one day and called Lexi and ever since then he calls her that too.

I am really excited to bring her and show her the magic. I have not been to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot since I was 6. We went right after Epcot opened and not even all of it was open yet. I remember that there was still construction going on. I went to MGM for one day in '91 and '92 for reverse culture shock. (I had been on a mission trip each of those summers and the group that I went with took us to WDW for a day and we could pick a park to go to.) So it has been FOREVER since I have been. I am really looking forward to it since neither my dh or Lexi have been.

We had a pretty low key New Year's too. I am not a huge fan of the holiday, I always feel like I should be doing more or something more special. Even Marc noted that it feels like a disappointment every year. :lmao:

Hopefully today will be a low key relaxing day for you at work!! :goodvibes
