:welcome:
So you've stumbled upon this little thread in hopes of reading something interesting... No promises, but I'll do my best! We've had a trip under our belt that didn't get a PTR or TR (and for that, I regret). So without further ado, here is the start of the PTR for our upcoming trip with some details of trips passed. party:

This PTR will have some new faces and old ones. Also, some starring roles were recast.

What's in store? (Hey, where is the smilie that shrugs??) :furious: Guess you'll have to stay tuned to find out! Hear who the new characters are, see what the old characters have been up to, and find out what makes this trip different than our previous trips!

(Bonus points to anyone who deciphers the title!)

Your title has me really intrigued!! I'm along for the ride!

:welcome: Bridget! So good to see you along for the haul! When you figure out the title, let others have a chance to guess before you spoil all the fun. :lmao:

Meet the cast!

After you get to know us a little bit, feel free to comment and let us get to know you!

To start, there’s ME! I’m Mom. You can call me Liddy. :D

Since you saw me last, I had a baby!

Some facts about me:

Favorite Park: DHS

Favorite Character: Mickey Mouse

Favorite Villain: Evil Queen

Favorite Pooh friend: Eeyore

Favorite Princess: Cinderella

Favorite Attraction: Expedition Everest

Favorite Restaurant: Garden Grill or 50s Prime Time Café

Bio: I’m in my 30s with three beautiful children. This is our 5th trip to WDW and 2nd October trip. I currently stay home to raise the little dudes and dudette while DH fuels our WDW addiction with employment. I’m one academic class away from my Accounting degree. I’m semi-crunchy, as I do the cloth diapering, breastfeeding, co-sleeping, babywearing, amber wearing stuff. (I won’t judge your lifestyle if you don’t judge mine.) I play WoW (World of Warcraft) as primarily a healer (my main is a Holy Paladin, she has her own Twitter and S.E.L.F.I.E. camera). When on my trip, if I find WoW related things, I text them to some of my guildmates.

Up next is DD13. She just turned 13, and we aren't so sure how much of these teen years she will get to see from outside of her bedroom. :lmao:

She’s an amazing helper with the baby and will be a huge help to me on this trip!

Some facts about DD13:

Favorite Park: MK

Favorite Character: Stitch

Favorite Villain: Evil Queen

Favorite Pooh friend: Piglet

Favorite Princess: Mulan

Favorite Attraction: Tower of Terror

Favorite Restaurant: 50s Prime Time Café or Be Our Guest

Bio: Last October, she performed at DTD with her Show Choir group. They did an amazing job! She just turned 13 and she's going on 30, I think. She's a great student but often doesn't want to apply herself. She loves to read and almost always has a book with her (or she's reading on her device). She's in band and plays the clarinet. She loves to torture DS8 and could learn to be a bit nicer to him. She's obsessed with Disney and is 100% committed to planning our trip.

Up next is DS8. He’ll turn 9 before our trip. He’ll actually turn 9 later this month!

Some facts about DS8:

Favorite Park: AK

Favorite Character: Stitch

Favorite Villain: Jafar

Favorite Pooh friend: Tigger

Favorite Princess: Mulan

Favorite Attraction: Expedition Everest

Favorite Restaurant: Chef Mickey’s

Bio: I don’t think his favorites are accurate, as some of them he listed because he heard his sister state them. :confused3 He spent last semester in the school's Running Club and completed several 5k races with his team. He missed sign ups for this semester, so he's a bit down. He’s too stinkin’ smart for his own good. He’s obsessed with learning and already has better research skills than many college students. He can read something once (briefly, skimming) and retain that information. He has some mild sensory issues and won’t ride things like Haunted Mansion, other dark rides, and some roller coasters. Our last trip was a breakthrough with him riding three roller coasters (7D, BTMRR, and EE)!

Let’s not forget the baby! Little Sully will be 2 in August.

10488376_736018916436885_4188276686361180113_n.jpg

Bio: He’s still nonverbal and has just started speech therapy. We are using basic baby sign language with him. He will be evaluated for OT later this month. Last trip, he was terrified of the characters. We won’t know what to expect this year until it happens. Just recently, he finally started to sign “eat” and “more” to us. It’s not consistent, but it’s a huge step and shows that he can pick up on more signs. Because of his sensory issues, we will have to be extremely flexible in our plans while we determine what he can and cannot handle.

And finally … the role of DH has been recast to ….

MOM!

10155032_707913662580744_5010344675719567828_n.jpg

DH won’t be joining us this trip as he is “sick of WDW” and has to work. So my mother will be joining us instead! This will be her 2nd trip (her first was 2009).

Bio: Mom is a mom to four girls. I’m her oldest (and favorite, just don’t tell her or my sisters that :ssst:). She’s a big help when it comes to my kiddos. She is my main babysitter when I have appointments or DH and I need a night out. She almost went with us last October since DH didn’t know if he could get the time off work or not. Since the trip was booked prior to his new job and promotion, they allowed him to take time (without pay) to go. So mom stayed behind, but DH went with us. I’ll share a few highlights of our last trip throughout this PTR. Since our first trip was so rushed and short, many things will be new to her (outside of the new stuff).

Guest Appearances by:

DH: While he won’t be joining us, he’s still the love of my life and will be discussed throughout the PTR (and TR). He is now officially a truck driver with a Class A license (even though he drives Class B trucks). He works long hours and I miss having him around the house. He drives locally, so he's home daily, but I still miss him.

Kouga: WOOT! Kouga is back! (And yes, DS8 photobombed Kouga!) We will be meeting up at least once during our trip to hang out. It’s not a trip without some WoW friends, right? For those who are new friends to me, Kouga is an old friend of mine who lives in FL. We met many, many years ago playing WoW (World of Warcraft, any other gamers out there?). We told him we were going to WDW one year and he asked if he could meet up with us. He’s joined us at least once each trip since! Sometimes his brother Akki joins in the fun, but usually Akki forgets to ask off and can’t make it to our gathering. In previous years, Kouga has joined us at EP, IoA, DHS, and DTD, as well as some DISmeets! This year, he will be joining us at … well, you’ll have to stay tuned to figure it out. :p Akki may or may not be joining us. We’ll find out if he shows up or not. lol

Disney20121091.jpg

Kouga and Akki (above)

Both have confirmed meeting up, but not on the same day. D'oh. So I have a day of hanging out with Kouga and a day of hanging out with Akki.

DIS and Facebook friends: I am hoping to meet up with old and new friends this trip (so if you’ll be there when we are, send me a message and let’s see if our paths will cross for a snack or something!).

DD’s classmates: DD has already said that some of her friends will be going to WDW over Fall Break. She’s already confirmed at least one of them will be at the same resort. I imagine we’ll run into a couple of her friends along the way in this trip.

I think that about covers the casting of this PTR. Did I miss anything? Any questions? Tell us a little bit about you!

OMG D~! You're here!!! :worship:

I planned on posting to FB later that I started a PTR. You just discovered it before I got that far. :lmao:

Now that I'm back, I have to go see what you've been up to! :woohoo:

I am excited to follow along! I am also a semi-crunchy stay at home mom, baby wearing, cloth diapering, amber necklace using, and used to exclusively breastfeed and co-sleep. My daughter turned two in January and has a speech delay, so she actually just started speech therapy this week. We will be back at Disney a couple weeks after you.

:welcome:

So glad to find another Disney mama who shares a similar lifestyle! :cloud9: It's also too funny that WE just started the speech therapy this week, too. Are you doing baby sign language? We recently started that and he signs "eat" and "more" some. He signed "more" in therapy today, as well as tried to say "hat!" We were so excited! He didn't quite get the T out, so it was more like HA ... but he TRIED! I hope you have great success with speech therapy. Please let me know how it goes for your DD. I know it doesn't help everyone, but I'd love to hear your story.

What kind of carrier do you have? Jax and Cosmic Boy (Tula) both went with us last October. I guess they'll both go again. I'm just worried that he may need a toddler size prior. :headache:

DS1 still nurses some. I have a feeling he will still be nursing in October. He doesn't want to give up his milk. :rotfl2:

We haven't done much sign language with her, although I wish I'd started earlier. She has some words and is excellent with non-verbal communication. We have an awesome program through our school district that has a preschool program once a week for toddlers with any kind of developmental delay. Then in addition to that, we will have in home therapy once a week.

I have heard awesome things about Tula carriers! We have an ergo. Whenever we are blessed with another baby, I plan to get a wrap style carrier. I had no idea how much I would love babywearing (or how much my child would never want to be put down), so I didn't plan anything for the newborn days. DD had trouble gaining weight (not related to my supply or anything like that) and nursed around the clock for 6 months, I never thought that she would give it up. At 18 months she just decided she was done and weaned herself. It went way smoother than I anticipated.

We just started signing. I wanted to do baby signing when he was an infant, but DH was VERY against it (and still is). As soon as the speech therapist recommended sign language to bridge the communication gap, I immediately started signing basic things. He's not on board, but whatever. lol The big kids sign to the baby, and my mom has started learning basic signs. :goodvibes

I'm told that we will eventually have once a week in-home visits through TEIS (if he's approved). The doctor was supposed to call for us, but we haven't heard anything. So the speech therapist said she would. I still haven't heard anything... :confused3

I've never tried an Ergo, so I can't compare. I do know I love my Tula. I tried doing a Baby K'tan when he was smaller, but I wasn't a big fan. So I never bothered with a wrap or a sling. I just upgraded to a Tula. And after I purchased my first one (on sale), I won the "right to buy" the LE Jax Tula. So then I had two. :lmao: Both are boy prints, so I hoped DH would approve and be okay with babywearing. He thinks babywearing is dumb, but found out at WDW it IS something useful. He won't wear around town, but did admit that being out in the parks it was very handy. :thumbsup2

My LO had issues with weight. He was born average weight (6.5 lbs), but kept dropping percentiles. We went to GI who pushed formula down our throats and rant tests. They never gave us any real answers but said to avoid the top 10 allergens. So we started working with an allergist. We know he's allergic to foods, but we are struggling to pinpoint. One day he has a reaction (hives around his face) and the next time he tries it, he's fine. :confused3 I'm worried he has some crazy autoimmune or something. Anyway ... he ended up dropping down to the 2nd percentile and stayed there for MONTHS. Around 6 months, he slowly went up (got him in the 5th percentile). He's now in the 20th percentile. That little dude nursed ALL. THE. TIME. I was exhausted, but it was worth it. :faint: I had all sorts of issues with nursing (I had zero support with DD, so she was on formula and DS had a TT but I wasn't given accurate info on having it corrected, so I pumped for him). Baby had ULT and TT which we had to FIGHT to have corrected. The ENT we had to see said that it wasn't bad enough to effect him nursing. Once it was corrected, there was a HUGE difference. I struggled with thrush so many times (and still do), and I can't get rid of the yeast. :sad2: I've had more blebs and clogged ducts than I can count. It's all still worth it. He's my last one and it's what he needed (and still does). He still nurses himself to sleep. Some days, he nurses like a newborn. Other days I wonder if he's ready to wean. I'm glad that weaning went very smooth for you. Maybe by college he'll wean ... :lmao:

That sounds incredibly stressful, it is amazing that you pushed through. DD was 8lbs 3 oz at birth and then was quickly falling in terms of percentiles even though she was gaining. She ended up off the charts for awhile, which put us in feeding therapy. The child screamed bloody murder when a bottle went near her mouth, so until she started solids, no one else could feed her. We found out that she had an issue with her cheeks and gums, which might be causing speech delays now. After many months of appointments and tests, they just determined that DD is a stubborn, petite child. She is in the 5th percentile now but healthy as can be. It literally took her a year to double her birth weight (16lbs 8 oz at 1 year) and at 2 years she only weighed 22 pounds. This has just taught me patience and that every child is built differently :)

Wow mama! Whoever said being a parent is easy should be hung by their toes. :lmao: I'm super glad to hear that she's healthy, regardless of what the charts show! :cloud9: I think we doubled around the one year mark, too. We had a lot of issues with him losing weight in the beginning. It wasn't as noticeable when the appointments got spaced several months out as he got older. However, we were doing everything right. He was just a skinny baby. And he was happy. (And I hear you on the bottle thing -- mine refused bottles.)

I instantly knew a fellow WoW'er when I saw your avatar :) I've got a little one too and my husband is also burning out a bit :) I'm not quite semi-crunchy, although I do bf and babywear (For WDW trips DH uses an Ergo sport, I usually use a Boba Air and a conversion ring sling that I loooooove). We have an amber necklace but my mom confiscated it because she was worried about choking :) Thought about cloth diapers but my mom and nanny threatened to never babysit our twins if we did that so we caved! We had preemie twins but we have avoided any special needs so far. They all take bottles pretty well but I have a friend whose baby is just not ok with them so I am familiar with those struggles. Allyinwonderland, one of my 2.5 yr old twins is only 24 pounds if it makes you feel any better! They truly are all different. Our baby (7 mo) will probably outweigh her before he hits 2.

Looking forward to hearing about your planning since we're similar in so many ways--we'll be heading to WDW in Sept!!!

Early Planning: The Backstory

During our October 2014 trip, I kept asking DH if we could come back next year. He, of course, said "NO!" He hates WDW, but always took us because he loves us and knows it's what where we want to go on vacation. Even after the trip, I mentioned October 2015 several times and was met with a glare and a resounding no. He tried to rationalize with me on how much money we've "donated" to Uncle Walt's pockets over the years (yep, he went there). I wasn't buying it. Then ... I did start thinking about money. 2016 and onward would put us at 4 "adults" and a child. DS8 would move up to the 10 year bracket and the baby would be 3, so he'd no longer be free. Then we would have no choice but to stay somewhere that sleeps 5+ people. I had to get in one more trip before the package price got crazy. :lmao:

So I started doing some thinking. :scratchin

And more thinking. :scratchin

And then I asked him, "If I can come up with most of the money on my own, can the kids and I go back?":confused3

His response? ::yes:: I had to come up with MOST of the money on my own. :hyper:

So I did some research. :surfweb:

I created a budget, contacted a TA (I don't know if we're allowed to plug TAs here or not -- I'd love to give a shout out to my amazing TA, but until I know the rules, my TA's name is available via PM), put down my deposit via a Disney Gift Card (with 4x fuel reward points), and set out the rules to DH.

You see, DH is a gaming junkie. I think if he was trapped in a room with unlimited access to video games, computers, PC parts (all new, top of the line stuff) and us and was forced to choose one, we'd never see him again. :rotfl2: (Okay, so in reality, he'd be heartbroken he'd have to choose between his top two loves.) I know how much money he typically spends a year on video games and PC upgrades for himself. Things he doesn't NEED.

So I told him for every $1 he spends on gaming things, I get $1 for WDW. He agreed. So far this year he has purchased several new games and upgraded his PC. I can't take a $1 for things that break and need replacing, though. So if his gaming mouse broke, he gets that unmatched. However, if he decided he needed a new gaming mouse even though his is in fine working order, I could match it. So now I'm pointing out new video games and encouraging him to buy a new game system and hey, this keyboard looks really neat! :rolleyes1

So anyway, back to planning... I wasn't 100% sure I could come up with the entire balance, but I knew I had until August. I knew I'd do what I could and work a trip around it. I planned big with the option of cutting back as needed. After I booked with my TA, I did up some possible budgets depending on historical discounts. I'm crossing my fingers for Free Dining (FD), but would take what we could get. If we didn't get FD, we'd only keep some of our ADRs that will be booked (I'd let the kids pick one that was special to them). We'd skip the DDP and just pay for meals OOP. I knew we could skip desserts and eat at the resort with the mugs to help with the cost of food. We may have to cut a day or two out if the trip got too pricey for what I can save up.

Then I got to thinking about having all three kids by myself. DH wasn't going to go. Even if he LIKED going, he would have to work. He gets summers off, so he is expected to use his vacation time during the summers or for emergencies. So he was completely out of the question to beg to come along. So then I started thinking. I could ask mom, my mom's BFF, my dad, an aunt... and then I was running out of people who didn't have obligations to kids at home. So I started with mom. She wanted to go, but wasn't sure if she could come up with the money. SO I got a bright idea.

I approached DH and let him know in advance that if he said "no" that it was no hard feelings and then gave him my best puppy eyes. I asked DH if he would buy mom's ticket. I told him how much it would cost (the min and the max, in case we added days or hoppers or something). I told him that I was hoping for FD, but if FD didn't happen, I may need some help with food costs, too. Then I told him the max amount of money I planned to spend on mom. He asked if he could think about it. So I let him be. He came back and said he'd buy mom's ticket and would pay what needed to be paid for her part. So I did the next logical thing. I called mom and told her that she was going with me and then let my sisters know she would be unavailable the days of our trip. I then had my awesome TA add mom to the package and introduced them via Facebook PM. With a group conversation, my TA could tell both of us info and we could all ask questions without having to pass around details. This put my mom into a position where she could see the planning.

Her only other trip, which was with us in 2009 on our first trip, was all planned by me. We were going to WDW and she asked if she could go, too. (Then her BFF and her son and DF joined along.) So I did all the planning and sent out an email a few days before we left with who/what/when/where. No one got any input in the trip. This year, I want mom to have some input. If we're torn between things, I'd love to hear mom's opinion. She isn't big into the planning, but at least now she can see how much work can go into a trip (and gone are those days of just showing up that people talk about.)

So this is how our trip came to be. How do I stand on my "fundraising" goals? Well, let's just say that if tomorrow was the 45 day mark, I could pay off my balance right now. I'm waiting for discounts to be released so I know the REAL balance of my trip.

Stay tuned for the next part where I discuss resorts and why we picked the one we did!

:welcome:

EEEEEK! Another WoWer! :cloud9:

I have to ask are you FOR THE HORDE or FOR THE ALLIANCE? :lmao: You can call me a traitor as I love both sides. My main, is of course, Alliance (human Holy Paladin). My avatar is back from BC when my helm was glitching and showing a blue/white checkered box. So I took a screen print and saved it. What server do you play on? We might have to meet up in game sometime. :thumbsup2

I have a friend who got a Boba and she loves it. I know if I need another carrier, I'll just go with another Tula, since change terrifies me. :rotfl2:

I'm sorry that your mom confiscated the amber. I know it's a valid concern. Baby pulled his off in the car one day. I heard DD ask if baby was allowed to chew on the amber, which puzzled me since he shouldn't be able to get it to his mouth. He had tugged on it enough that the clasp (break-away clasp) let free. So he could have easily choked on it. We replaced his amber with the screw clasps and haven't had any issues since. With the amber, we never had to give him ANYTHING for teething though. (He cut 6 teeth at once! :scared1:) I do get asked about his necklaces often when we're out. I give them our opinion and point out that it doesn't hurt to try. Some people claim they're just a fad. He's only had tylenol/ibuprofen for fever, never teething. So they work in our experience.

Have you considered cloth part-time? Lots of mamas use cloth at home but disposables with caregivers. I love my cloth so much. I can't get past the cute prints! (FYI, I have an Alliance diaper. How cool is that??) Plus, with cloth, we don't get blow-outs when the diaper is on correctly. I hated those with disposables. There's totally nothing wrong with sposies and doing what works for each family. :goodvibes (So please don't think I'm pushing or anything. That's not my intentions.)

We used cloth the entire time we were at WDW last October. If he's not trained by this October, I don't know if we'll use cloth, a hybrid system, a combo of cloth/sposies, or just sposies. :confused3 We will play it by ear and see what's up.

Twins? :faint: Before I had my first, I always wanted twins. Twins fascinate me so much! Were you blessed with identical or fraternal? BB, BG, or GG? I'd love to hear more about your twins.

We arrive on the 30th. What are your dates?

Anyway, off to appointments! Looking forward to catching up with you later!

Suzi!!! You're here! I sure have missed everyone around here! ::yes::

These kidlets are growing like weeds! The oldest is now taller than me.

October hours came out yesterday. It's a mess. I already did a tentative schedule based on last year's hours. NOTHING will work. NADA. And for some reason, I can't seem to fit the puzzle pieces together now. I'm not a fan of EMHs, but it looks like we won't have a choice. :sad2: Also, for the first time ever, I am considering park hoppers. That's nearly $300 I wasn't looking forward to shelling out .... :faint:

I'm going to get my NEW tentative schedule worked out and have my TA give her opinions, as well as some other close friends. After I finish any tweaking, I'll be ready to discuss it here (and you fine folks can give YOUR input). :goodvibes

I love how your financing came about, that's awesome! And oo funny! I'd be computer parts shopping for dh too. :whistle

And it was so nice of dh to "sacrifice" his trip so mom could go... More great memories to be made there.

We've missed having you around.

D~
