The Everything Pooh Sized Thread

How long in advance to you recommend walking to get ready? We are going in October. Is it too soon to start?

As someone else said, never too soon to start! I've been going to The Emily Program for the last 7 months for eating disorders and recently started seeing a physical therapist for my issues so I CAN start moving again to get healthy. It'll be uncomfortable at first, but don't do too much at any one time. Slow and steady will win the race. Just a bit at a time. My dietitian and counselor for the disorder have told me that if I start to excerise on any given day w/ the specific though to do it for weight loss, that I'm not to do it at all. I need to stop thinking about that and move because it will make me feel better and alleviate my pain. Even if it causes me discomfort in the beginning. Focus on the postive that will come w/o any doubt from movement and weight loss will just be a bonus and you'll never be disappointed. It's a theory that works, but IS hard to do. :flower3: I haven't weighed myself since last August! My dietician has, but she doesn't tell me the number for my own sake so I don't fixate and feel defeated (which I'm incredibly prone to doing).

RAH RAH for you! :cheer2:

SW has recently changed their customer of size policy to be a little more friendly to us Pooh sized folks. We are giving them a try next month after not using them for well over 10 years. We have an 11 year old DD with autism who will be sitting between two pooh sized parents. Just to cover all bases we did purchase early bird check in although DD will be allowed preboarding.

That's SO good to know! In fact, my hubby has beome a bit Pooh sized since he quit smoking 14 months ago. ;) He's super healthy and active (unlike me *cough cough* ;) ), just bigger than he used to be. So, that sound like a really good plan to purchase the EB if we fly them for DH and I and sit the youngest between us. our 14 year old can cope if he's not near us. give them an iPod or DS and headphones and 3 and a half hours goes fast. LOL He IS an uptight one, but I think he'd be fine.

Can I be SUPER nosey and inquire as to the ballpark to what an EB upcharge costs for one?

I think it was $12 each way. Since one person can preboard with your youngest you could save the 3rd seat (SW told me we could do this) or buy early bird check in for your DH. I called SWA customer service several weeks ago and explained our situation. Me the worrier wanted extra assurance.

EB upgrade is 20 dollars each way or there abouts. It's not to bad and makes a great difference in your flight.

That's great new guys! THANK YOU! it's worth doing for all of us then. We'll be peachy and non-stressed. What a load off!! THANKS!!:faint::hyper: I can't tell you how worried I've been. I know many of your feel the same. In my eating disorders treatment group, this was a subject talked about and stressed by us all. It gave us all sleepless nights.

We are flying SW on Thursday and have purchased EB. It's $12.50 per ticket per way. So $25 round trip. At 36 hours you are automatically "checked in" and don't have to log in at 24 hrs to get a decent boarding group. Our travel agent anticipates we'll get an "A" boarding or the very worst an early numbered "B" boarding. First time flying SW so we'll see how it goes. The extra fee was worth it to us to be able to board early enough to sit together.

My husband and I are Pooh sized and are going back to WDW in May. We will be flying with our 10 year old daughter. We have avoided Southwest Airlines for years but I just re-read their passenger of size policy today. Am I reading it correctly, SWA will now refund the passenger of size for a second seat purchased even if the flight is oversold? In our case we would purchase two extra seats. I don't want to ask this on the transportation board. Has anyone successfully gotten their seats refunded after the trip? Thank you!

Yes! I've done this twice now, even have booked my "paid" seat with miles and then put the extra seat on my credit card, then got the refund afterward. You can do this one of two ways.

1) When you're booking your ticket, book two. Use your first name, middle name XS, then last name for the extra seat. When you check in 24 hours ahead of time, it will usually only let you check one of the tickets in - that's fine. Check the second one in at the gate and they will give you a pre-board slip. I even "argued" with them, thanking them but letting them know I didn't need to pre-board, my position was fine enough to get two seats together. They were insistent I pre-board. Okie dokie. :) When you complete your trip, email SWA and request the refund. It takes about 7-10 business days but will be applied right back to your credit card. This will apply even if the flights were oversold.

2) You can not book and pay for the second seat and request it at the check-in counter. They will give it to you without charging you. The risk you run here is that if the flight is already oversold, you might have to wait for the next one. I haven't done it this way.

Thanks. I guess you can see why I am pooh sized! lol. I lost over 100 pounds before my last WDW trip. I have about 50 to go, so I planned this trip to get in shape. Putting the cart before the horse, maybe... But I know nothing else has inspired me to walk and get in shape like WDW!

WAY TO GO on your weight loss! That's fantastic!!

You know, I broke one of my cardinal rules last October and it was one of my best trips ever. Usually I will never buy new running shoes right before a lot of walking in the parks, because what a way to break in new shoes, right? Usually after a day or so, my feet just burn and my legs, hip, knees are shot. This last trip, I had purchased a new pair of running shoes just before I left and I thought maybe I'd try alternating between the new and old ones each day, for 4 park days in a row. I wore the old ones on the plane and straight to the park that day. That night, same old story - OW. I went with the new shoes the next day and I was so amazed - NO pain! I wore them for the remaining park days and my legs/feet were just as fresh at the end of the 4th day as they were the 1st. If anyone is interested, they are Nike Dual Fusions - not terribly expensive at around $60.

Thanks for the information. After speaking with someone from SWA customer service we decided to not purchase the extra seats in advance. We are will be fine as long as we all three can sit together and with our DD being eligible for preboarding that won't be a problem. As extra insurance we also paid for early bird check in. We will request extra seats at the counter just in case the flight isn't oversold as it would make it a more comfortable flight but we we could be fine sitting together.

Thank you for all your responses about Southwest! I'm beginning to feel much better about it. I'm definitely doing the early bird, and I think I'll also get a note from my daughter's doctor about her anxiety for extra insurance! I know as long as I'm sitting next to her, the extra seat issue will not be a problem! She's extremely tiny! lol I'm hoping then my husband will be able to be next to our other daughter. I don't really think they'll let a 5 year old fly without a relative next to them, especially on their first trip.

I'm so happy to see a lot of you reaching or working to reach your weight loss goals! I'm not as concerned about the Disney portion of the trip as I am the flight. I know Disney did an awesome job making sure to meet everyone's needs, even us pooh sized!

I'm relatively a healthy person, besides the weight. I don't have a problem with cholesterol, diabetes, or anything else. I'm able to walk long distances and even jog a bit. It's very frustrating. I just can't seem to get my eating under control and get this weight off! It got really out of control when I lost my job a few years ago. I gained 30 pounds the year I was off of work.

Sending lots of luck and pixie dust everyone's way!

I am size 24 & 5' 7". I wanted Disney shirts to wear before my trip that is in 24 days. I've made most of mine. I did a few with the freezer paper stencil trick. But also I found some clearance shirts that were Disney in way smaller sizes at Walmart. I bought them, cut out design. Got a shirt in my size that would match and used heat n bond to put the design on my new short. They are so cute! Ill post pics later. This board has eased my worries so much. I haven't been to WDW in 20 yrs.

I think there is. I know that my husband and I don't rent them because it's expensive to rent two and our weight together was WAY over.

Several years ago, we had 2 vouchers with our vacation plan. The CM at the Yacht Club Marina let us rent 1 small 2-3 person boat for the same vouchers. The boat went a little slower than I would have liked but it was definitely fun in a different sort of way.

It was more romantic and peaceful than boisterous fun but still worth it.

Update: the weight limit is 320 pounds.

A lot of people can handle that solo or possibly even with a child.

DH and I rent a pontoon boat, much more relaxing! He has fun driving and I have fun sunning and lounging!

I need some help with a question about bags for the parks. Online, I found what appears to be a great bag, for what I am looking for, and there are great reviews for it. It is the Kavu rope sling back bag. My question is whether larger women can use this type of bag comfortably? Has anyone had any experience with this bag?

Thanks:)

I don't have this particular brand but I do have that style that we have taken to WDW. I'm quite busty along w/ being Pooh sized. If you sling it over just your shoulder and carry it similar to a purse, it's fine, it's a bit on the snug side for me if I have it diagonally across my front and back. The one we have has ample stretchy give and padding to make it as comfortable as possible, but still, w/ a decent sized chest, it's just too snug to be comfortable for me. So I had it over to the DH. ;)

Thanks for the info. Probably the best thing to do is find a local store that carries them and see how it fits.

By the way, like the puzzle piece clip art. I'm also a mom with a child who has Autism. I love going to DW for the obvious reasons but my favorite reason is the look of pure joy on my son's face while at DW. Those moments are to few during the school year. We are blessed to have the opportunity to go to DW. Sorry off topic.

It may have been off topic, but what a beautiful thing to share.:thumbsup2
