The Everything Pooh Sized Thread

Just got home and thought I'd update - all rides are fine except I could not ride barnstormer with another adult, but with a small kid, fine. The one thing I couldn't do was the virtual space mountain at Disney Quest so wanted to forewarn on that one.

We got back last week and I just wanted to give my input. For reference, I'm 5'4", 320 lbs. Size 26/28 top & bottom.

I rode everything fine and even fit in the cars with my hubby, who is a little on the Pooh size as well.

Star Tours was a tight fit but I pulled the seat belt all the way out before I sat down and that helped. Same with Dinosaur.

Philharmagic & Muppet Vision required me to sit on the edge of the seat because I couldn't fit between the armrests comfortably but it didn't hinder anything.

This trip has made me love WDW even more because I know I can enjoy everything with DH and not be embarrassed by my size.

I agree with everyone. When we went last year I was at my heaviest, 5x top, 28 bottom, 5'5" and 360. I too stressed and worried. I can honestly say I fit on everything, astro orbiter was the only snug ride ( and me and DH being idiots thinking we could both go on Barnstormer, it made it the worst ride ever because we were not really strapped in and DH was mad like it was my fault, we laugh about it now). Just go and have a magical time, wear what's comfortable, no one cares, I for the first time went into public with a tank top. I was comfy and that's all that mattered. Turnstiles were challenging but I went sideways and had to issues.
We are going back in 46 days and I have lost 35 pounds, I hope to have another 20 off by then. My goal is to not have to ask for a seat belt extension on the flight. We live near Cedar Point and have Platinum passes this year, I can't fit on anything! They need to take page from Disney. So this is my motivation to lose more weight this winter, besides it being healthier for me.

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

We're platinum pass holders too and at size 18 I'm too large for everything. DD is so excited to go to WDW where mommy can ride with her instead of just daddy!

Hi everyone! I know this board is mainly for disney, but my husband brought up going to universal one day on our next WDW Vaca. How are the universal rides with pooh sized people? I am a 24 bottom -2x-3x top depending on style, and I'm 5'11. I had no problems on any rides at Disney this summer. We probably won't do IOA just Universal. Thanks in advance.

We went to Universal a few years back... (we actually went to both sides). I was very afraid that I wouldn't be able to do much of anything. But on the Universal side, had no issues with any of the rides I wanted to go on. The mummy ride was one I was afraid I wouldn't fit, but did just fine. IOA on the other hand didn't offer much... worse, wasn't able to ride the HP ride (the main reason we went there). I am a tad larger than you in sizes, but several inches shorter.. you should be ok... and there are test chairs to try.

I am having a HUGE problem finding the right bag to take. I have been going with a back pack because it's just been easier to find that would fit. All of the messenger style cross body bags have been toooo small. Not enough strap. I'm a size 24 and substantial up top. Ant suggestions on what you all have found?

I bought an "Its a Small World" LeSportsac Cleo Crossbody Bag and I pulled the strap all the way to the longest point...and it was too long! I'm a size 20, and c cup, so it might work for you.

I used this in the parks as well, but don't wear a white shirt with it. I had some strange color transfers, but maybe because it was almost 90 degrees and super humid? But, anyway, they washed out, and yes, I had no problem with the fit, either. It was lightweight, too.:cool1:

The last trip I took I was around a 26/28 and I wore the Teva Mush flip flops and had no issues. I used the Vera Bradley mini hipster and it worked perfectly to hold the items I needed to carry- glasses, small wallet, tickets, chapstick, bandaids, and other small items. It is nice and long and I was able to wear it cross body. I prefer the It Figures swimsuits and they last FOREVER! I've seriously used the same one for nearly 4 years. I prefer the ones with the skirt because it covers my thighs.

Howdy Folks,

I never got around to letting you all know how my trip went back in June. I'm a really big guy (6'4, 405, 54 inch waistband) and was pretty anxious about what I could do at Disney. This thread was a HUGE help to me getting prepared.

In short, I would say stop worrying! Disney is incredibly friendly for us pooh sized folks. It was really an awesome experience.

At Magic Kingdom, I had no trouble on anything except -
- Splash Mountain was tight but that had more to do with my height than my weight. If you've got significant knee issues then this one may be a problem.

- On one ride on the Tommorrow Land Speedway, I got a car with a belt that was pretty tight. Another time, it was no trouble.

- The Barnstormer was very cramped. Again, this was really as much to do with my height as my weight. I was pretty jammed into that one! But, I did it! My daughter and I who were in the car together joked that we might need the jaws of life to get us out! :rotfl2:

Otherwise, we did pretty much everything else at the park with absolutely no trouble. Just a note that I didn't try to do the AstroOrbiter or Space Mountain.

We also went to EPCOT and did Soarin, Test Track, Mission Space, The Sea w/ Nemo and Friends, The Circle of Life, and Spaceship Earth with absolutely no issues regarding my size.

My advice is to bring plenty of gold bond powder, diaper rash ointment, and to take mid-day breaks.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the info!

Hi...I've heard the front gates have gone turnstile free.. What about the attractions? The Carousel of progress, Haunted mansion, and the train have all given me trouble before and I'm nervous- don't like asking to use the gate or trying to stuff myself through at all!

Carousel still has turnstile as of 2 weeks ago ... :(

I'm excited to hear about the turnstiles, my hips are wide and the last time I went I had to get tiptoes to get through.

I'm going to Epcot in three days, I can't wait to see all the Christmas decorations. And knowing that I'm going to fit all the rides has me elated.

The turnstiles for the entrance to the railroads are the worst for me. I have to stand on tiptoe and hope for the best. I have asked a CM working there if I could go through the wheelchair entrance but they have told me they can't unlock it unless a person is in a w/c. We always get on a t Main Street and off at splash mountain so I haven't entered anywhere else to know different entrances.

Hi all,

I have been lurking on this thread for sometime, and read every single post before travelling to Orlando two weeks ago. I just arrived back in the UK this morning, and I wanted to share my experiences of Disney and Universal.

For info, I am 32, roughly 375 lbs and 5' 8 '', wearing a UK 26 on top and 28/30 on the bottom. This was my first trip to Orlando.

These are the rides I went on with little or no issues:

Magic Kingdom:

Jungle Cruise
Aladdin's Magic Carpet (we sat one per row. Seatbelt was fine)
Pirates of the Caribbean
Big Thunder Mountain
Splash Mountain
Hall of Presidents
Haunted Mansion
Tea Cups (tight fit to my belly, but rode it a few times!)
Mickey's Philarmagic
Barnstormer (one to a row)
Dumbo (one to a row)
Buzz Lightyear
Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor
Prince Charming Regal Carousel (needed my husbands help to mount/dismount the horse!)
Space Mountain
Stitch's Great Escape
Under the Sea
Magic Kingdom Railroad
Carousel of Progress

I did not ride Speedway, Small World or Astro Orbiter as we just did not have enough time to do everything, despite spending two 12+ hour days at the park!

Animal Kingdom

Kilimanjaro Safari
Kali River Rapids (seatbelt was super-hard to get done up, but I did it. Had to sit as a single due to lack of room for two)
It's Tough to be a Bug
Primeval Whirl
TriceraTop Spin (we were given a larger dino so we could sit together. Plenty of room in the seat belt)
Lion King

I had the all clear in the test seat for Expedition Everest, but as the husband would not ride with me, I chickened out and didn't do it. Maybe next time!

Hollywood Studios

The Great Movie Ride
Tower of Terror (tight fit in the seat, but seat belt was more than long enough)
Star Tours (tight fit in the seat, but seat belt was more than long enough)
Backlot Tours
Muppet Vision 3D
Legend of Jack Sparrow

I did not ride Rock 'n' Roller coaster due to feeling unwell when our fastpass was due, and the wait time for Toy Story was always 70 minutes plus, so we skipped it.

Epcot

Circle of Life
Gran Fiesta Tour
Living with the Land
Maelstrom
Mission Space (mild version)
The Seas with Nemo and Friends
Soarin' (asked for an outside seat. Seatbelt was fine)
Turtle Talk with Crush

We skipped Test Track, Spaceship Earth, Ellen's Energy Adventure and Captain EO due to lack of time and/or interest.

Universal Studios

Minion Mayhem
Shrek 4D
Men in Black
Simpson's Ride
Transformers (amazing ride!)
Twister
Disaster
Terminator
ET
Revenge of the Mummy - the test seat outside was not clear if I could ride, so the staff member told me to ask for row 4. The first seat I chose did not work out, so I was (politely) asked to move to the outside seat. Bingo! it fit (just) and I could ride!

Minion Mayhem was the very first ride of the trip. There was an issue getting the shared lap bar to fit with me in the row, but the staff did not make an issue and made it work. I felt awful as it was the first ride and all I could think was that they would all be tight or not fit and our holiday would be ruined. Thankfully, after a little sulking, I decided just to get on with it and go for it with the rest. If I didn't fit, then I would just move on.

Island of Adventure

To start, I could not ride Forbidden Journey. I knew that it was likely that I would not be able to ride, but I did the test seat, and it was no where near yellow/green. Of course I was a little disappointed, but the Castle tour is pretty special. I also could not ride Duelling Dragons, but I was less interested in this ride.

Flight of the Hippogriff (one to a row)
Spider-Man
Storm Force
Jurassic Park River Adventure
One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish
Poseidon's Fury
Seuss Trolley Train Ride
Caro-Seuss-el
The Cat in the Hat

We also went to SeaWorld, but didn't do any of the rides. I went there to see the dolphins/fish/whales not for the rides!

If I was at all worried about the kind of restraint on a ride or even fitting, I just asked a staff member. I figured that I could just ask and get on with it rather than worry about it. Everyone I spoke to was understanding and reassuring and gave me advice on where to sit. Disney was more accommodating than Universal, but I think that is due to the type of rides they have. There were a few rides I wasn't even interested in riding as I am not keen on rides with inversions.

We flew with Virgin Atlantic. I did not need to buy an additional seat, but I did need an extender. To ensure that our flight was as easy as possible for us and other passengers, we pre-booked two seats near the back of the plane and took advantage of the priority boarding for passengers who need more time. I had a bit of an issue with the table but I made it work. Flight staff on both legs were very helpful and accommodating.

To help with the long days, walking etc. I used Lanacane anti-chafing gel and lots and lots of baby powder pretty much everywhere. I alternated my shoes everyday, but the best ones I had were a pair of Skechers Go Walks. I cannot recommend them enough. My bag of choice was a Kipling cross body bag. Semi water-proof with a reasonably long strap and plenty of room.

I didn't buy any t-shirts (I'm not a t-shirt girl), but I did buy a XXL zip hoody with the Hogwarts emblem on the front from Dervish and Banges, and a rather wonderful Minnie Mouse dress from the Disney Store in DTD. It is only XXL, but fits like a dream!!

I hope that my lengthy post may help some others feeling a little worried about their trip! My biggest tip is not to worry and enjoy your trip. Try the rides and ask questions. If I thought a turnstile would be an issue, I just asked to use the alternative entrance. There were a few less than dignified moments climbing in and out of rides (Space Mountain!!), but I was having such a good time that I forgot to care. I am already planning the next one!

Our plus sized trip (US size 30) comes at the end of January. My wife has never been and she is nervous about fitting. I have reassured her that I've never had any problem fitting and I've shared many of the posts here with her. But, I do have one question.

Is Dinosaur a tight fit? I seem to remember that it was...but maybe I'm mixing it up with another ride. She would like to do it and I would be willing, even though its not a favorite (its a little....rough.....for my taste.)

Any input?

I think Dinosaur was a little tight for me as a 26, but probably still doable. The ride has one of those hard to use seat belts. Pull the seat belt out before you sit down, and make sure one of your travelling companions is seated next to you on the side the seat belt fastens.

Hubby and I have ridden Test Track using the single rider line several times. I usually have some nice good Samaritan help me with the seat belt...but it was a real disaster last time. I sat in the back seat and a lady sitting in the front seat stepped back into the back seat to help me get my seat belt fastened. We were probably stopped for 5 minutes or more. I've never been so embarrassed in my life. Thank goodness I was not in a crowd of people I knew...Then again...they could have helped the situation.

I guess I'll FP it or stand in the regular line next time so hubby can help me from the start.

So we revealed our plans for a Feb visit to Disney. Our kids are thrilled! I am extremely worried about my size. At 5'8, 350 lbs and a sz 30, I'm having nightmares about the usual suspects - not fitting, getting stuck, embarrassing myself and my family, etc. I've read through this thread and know there are numerous positive stories and assurances, and I've visited the allears guide, I'm still freaking out a bit. Ugh!!

I understand the panic, but you will be fine. On all the rides with seatbelt so make sure to pull them out before you sit and if possible have a friend or relative on the side where it buckles for help if you need it.

I also suggest start a walking regimen now, it will help so much when you get there.
