The End of an Era - Where Dreams Come True at Pop & Kidani **NEW 5/28 FINALE

OH MY GOSH! You must've accidently set it for 4:45am or something?

I love the lettuce wraps at a nice Chinese restaurant after they serve the Peking Duck. Those bits of duck are so good with the hoisin sauce. Yumm-o

GET OUT!!!! How could you do that?!? I'm with whoever said you accidently set it for AM. Which is totally something I'd do- so I set no less than 3 alarms! Mike calls it paranoia; I call it playing it safe.

We loved Nemo: yeah, totally even cried.

OK, I'll cause a mutiny... I really don't like Mickey Bars. I just don't. There, I said. I feel so much better. Mango Pie on the other hand. I could eat 3 of those.

I think I needed a neck transplant after Dinosaur.

I'm with Glennbo! PF Chang's lettuce wraps- most delectable!

That oughtta help you feel better after EE, or just about anything else for that matter.

It definitely made me forget about it!

I love to get the lettuce wraps at PF Chang's.

Can't say I've experienced PF Chang's but I'll take your word for it

What is it with tempura these days? This is the third thread (mine, eandesmom's, and this one) that tempura has reared its ugly hearburn-inducing head.

I have no idea. It seems that Disney does tempura differently than any other place I know. At all costs, avoid anything that has the word "tempura" attached to it.

Aw, Bubba was a good sport about it. I guess in return for you going for an extra spin on EE.

Yeah she owed me big time!!!!

Okay, now you've got me nervous. I was planning on trying to hit this show this year, now I'm not so sure. I could have a mutiny on my hands from the thrill-seekers in my group. Hmmmmm. :scratchin

Take my opinion with a grain of salt. Everyone is different. You may end up liking it! Go see it especially if the rest of the family hasn't seen it yet.

Wow! Drinks :drinking1 and Mickey Bars :mickeybar in the same installment. You know how to tour a park! I hope it doesn't catch up with you later (he said knowingly, since he's already read to the end.)

I have to have at least ONE Mickey Bar on every visit to the parks!

YOU DID NOT! I guess you were exhausted. And full of alcohol and ice cream.

Hey, I wasn't the one full of alcohol :p I'm pretty sure I got the virgin drink! :rolleyes1

Glad you are feeling better!

It was really weird. The one night I go to bed all stuffed up, the next morning I wake up perfectly fine. Stupid allergies

HA! It would be fun if Bubba posted to give her retorts.

Hehe. If she only knew :lmao:

The Mango pie looked delicious. How was the Sweet & Sour pork?

The sweet & sour pork was pretty good! It's like anything you'd get at a nice Chinese restaurant. I wouldn't hesitate to order it :thumbsup2

Oh no! You slept through it. Can't wait to hear what happened.

Update coming soon!

Oh no - I can't believe you slept through it! You needed a good meal at Narcoosee's to make up for the disappointing lunch at Yak & Yeti. I wish you'd have ordered the ribs - they looked fabulous!

I couldn't believe it either! I was in denial for at least 10 minutes

OH MY GOSH! You must've accidently set it for 4:45am or something?

It'll all be explained in my next update

I love the lettuce wraps at a nice Chinese restaurant after they serve the Peking Duck. Those bits of duck are so good with the hoisin sauce. Yumm-o

I had never heard of them before. Now I know to order them next time I see it on the menu.

Before I continue, let me explain how we managed to sleep through our Narcoosee’s ADR. As I mentioned, I had set my alarm on my cell phone for 4:30pm (or close to that) so it would give us enough time to get ready. Remember how I was feeling a bit woozy after EE? Well, I popped a Gravol to help settle my stomach and these pills make you drowsy! I didn’t realize how drowsy it had made me until I took the nap. Bubba was counting on me to wake her up since she was in the other room on the pull out chair. So my alarm goes off on my phone. I push snooze. You know how you keep turning off your alarm without even knowing it? Yup, that was me. I pressed snooze so many times that the alarm actually turned OFF. So being as drowsy as I was, I fell back asleep… for another TWO hours. I don’t know how I managed to wake myself up but thank the heavens I did or else we may never had had the chance for dinner. Now that you know how it happened, let’s continue.

Once I realized what time it was, I literally jumped out of bed and ran to Bubba. I shook her awake, screaming “We missed our dinner reservation! We slept through it! Wake up!” It didn’t take much more than that to get Bubba awake. I was mortified. I felt like my itinerary was ruined! How could I sleep through a dinner reservation, let alone our Narcoosee’s reservation! I wanted to cry. I wanted to kick myself. The horror of wasting not one but TWO table service credits! Bubba took the reins on the situation and calmed me down. She suggested we call the dining line to see what they could do for us. It didn’t take long to get through but I could hardly speak straight when someone answered. I explained the situation and first got the CM to check if there were any further spots open at Narcoosee’s for the night. No such luck. At this point we were pretty desperate so I started naming off restaurants. Eventually Citricos came up available for an 8:30pm or there abouts time. Perfect! I grabbed that one and wrote down the confirmation number on a piece of paper. Before I hung up with the CM, she said “Make sure you don’t sleep through this one, okay?”

A huge wave of relief washed over me. At least we still had dinner somewhere and at a similar place to boot. We quickly got changed and left for Grand Floridian within half an hour. As we were leaving the parking garage, Bubba asked me if I had the confirmation number. Oops! I forgot it in the room! We needed that number since we just made the reservation. In the unlikely event it didn’t come up in their system, we would need that number to get in. So Bubba made a U-turn and I bolted back up the elevator, down the long hallway to our room, grabbed the piece of paper I wrote the number on and ran back to the car. Quite the feat to do in high heels!

The thing I hate most about Grand Floridian is how they make you park across the street unless you want valet parking. Well la dee da! Way to treat your paying resort guests! Not like we were paying resort guests but seriously! Can you imagine lugging your suitcases across the street from your car if you were staying there? Although, granted I’m sure they have luggage assistance when you check in. But still! Anyways, we parked and trudged along in our high heels all the way to Citricos.

5afyc.jpg

When we checked in, the dining room seemed pretty empty. It looked like we had just missed the dinner rush, which wasn’t a bad thing. This just meant we got a quieter dining atmosphere. It didn’t look like we would’ve had much trouble getting seated either, even if they didn’t have our reservation. All that running around for nothing! Just after we checked in, Wishes started. It was a very calming moment after all the chaos that just went on.

24fjvbt.jpg

We were called to our seat just as Wishes was ending. Our server’s name was Kiara. Best. Server. Ever. Just sayin’! She was fabulous. So, so friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu and wine menu. I can’t say enough about this girl. She was so good in fact, that I e-mailed the manager (they didn’t have any Guest Fanatic cards). Everything about this dining experience was wonderful. Even the menus were nice!

2ylo0fs.jpg

First order of business was wine. We had to calm our nerves somehow ;)

29n8h36.jpg

To start us off, we ordered the Cheese Course Trio, which offered a variety of delectable cheeses to tantalize our tastebuds.

sopw7c.jpg

e83d06.jpg

Oh my lord, did I die and go to heaven?! These cheeses were fantastic. I just wish they’d give bigger portions!

For my entrée, I ordered the Pork Two Ways – pork tenderloin and pork belly

2e22rgg.jpg

I’ll admit I had never eaten the belly of a pig so this was definitely a new experience. The tenderloin was delicious. It definitely lived up to its name in tenderness. The pork belly was so soft and melt in your mouth….MMMMmmmmmmm was all I could say when I was eating it! Every piece of food that was on my plate complimented one another. The chef knows what he’s doing, that’s for sure!

Bubba ordered the Braisedd Veal Shank

ou1it4.jpg

The meat just fell off the bone and was as soft as bread. I even tried a little bit and it was incredible. I’m not the biggest veal fan but if I were served this, I’d eat it all up in a heartbeat!

We made sure to leave room for dessert, after all we were using two table service credits for this meal! I ordered the Lemon Cheesecake.

20fdsp3.jpg

Loved the presentation. This was another “I’ve died and gone to heaven” moments. The cheesecake was like velvet and the lemon wasn’t overly tart. Sadly I was ready to burst and could only finish half of it.

Bubba ordered the Trio of Gelato

2hs2bfo.jpg

As seen by the toppings, the flavours were cappuccino, almond, and raspberry. These were divine with a burst of flavour in every spoonful.

Citricos is an incredible dining experience. If you’re looking for top notch food, impeccable service, and nice dining environment then EAT HERE. In my opinion it is worth 2 table service credits or even the OOP expense. You get what you pay for and Citricos does not disappoint. If I could afford it, I would make this a must do on every trip! Highly recommended.

With energy to spare after our extended nap  we departed Grand Floridian for exploration of Animal Kingdom Lodge & Kidani.

At this point we were pretty desperate so I started naming off restaurants.

Did you try the nearby ones? Sanaa, Boma, Jiko?

Eventually Citricos came up available for an 8:30pm or there abouts time. Perfect! I grabbed that one and wrote down the confirmation number on a piece of paper. Before I hung up with the CM, she said “Make sure you don’t sleep through this one, okay?”

Oh thanks! I don't feel bad enough already -- right?

Quite the feat to do in high heels!

Mmm hmm! Tell me about it.

Now wait a second.....what about Dan at The Wave? How soon we forget!

First order of business was wine.

And the third and the fifth. It's actually every-other order of business.

With energy to spare after our extended nap  we departed Grand Floridian for exploration of Animal Kingdom Lodge & Kidani.

Looking forward to this!

I totally agree with Bubba-Dinosaur absolutely terrifies me! I'd love to see the video though. I haven't seen the Nemo show, but Mom said it was good. It seems to get very mixed reviews here. That's weird about the character scale though. I completely understand how you felt about missing the ADR. I keep panicking thinking, okay so we come back from Blizzard Beach and possibly take a nap, but what if we sleep for too long and miss our Ohana ADR?! Anyway, I'm glad that you were able to find another ressie. (I thought the CMs comment was a tad rude though). Citricos sounds great, that's not a restaurant I hear too much about. Can't wait to see your pics of exploring Kidani-I found a great thread with lots of pictures and I'm very excited to stay there now. I also get the studio lay out much more.

Great updates! That blue drink looks yummy. I would like to see your Dinosaur video. haha

I agree with you about the Nemo show. I liked it but the movie is better. And you are definitely right about the scale of the characters! I hadn't really thought about that before but now that you mention it it's true! Hmmm.

Oh no, that is a bummer about sleeping through you ADR! :(

Looks like Bubba saved your butts. :) How long did she lord that over you?

The pork looks delicious, and I'm not really a pork person.

Did you try the nearby ones? Sanaa, Boma, Jiko?

Sanaa we had already eaten at, Boma we were eating breakfast at the next morning, and Jiko.... hmmmm... guess that one slipped my mind!

Oh thanks! I don't feel bad enough already -- right?

Yeah, seriously!

Mmm hmm! Tell me about it.

And you would know that first hand, right Glen?

Now wait a second.....what about Dan at The Wave? How soon we forget!

:rolleyes1 Dan will never know right? Okay, okay. Yes, I found another favourite server but gosh darn it, they're some good servers out there!

And the third and the fifth. It's actually every-other order of business.

Gotta have my wine.

Looking forward to this!

I've been crazy busy lately but another update should be out soon....

I'll have to upload the video at some point. When taking a nap, just don't take drowsy medication before going to sleep! And set multiple alarms in case one fails. You're leaving so soon for Kidani! Soon you'll have lots of your own pictures to sift through :thumbsup2

Great updates! That blue drink looks yummy. I would like to see your Dinosaur video. haha

This video seems to be getting some requests.... perhaps I will upload it.

I'm glad you agree about Nemo. It's just not my cup of tea.

Oh no, that is a bummer about sleeping through you ADR! :(

It was a HUGE bummer. But everything happens for a reason I guess. If we had gone to Narcoosee's, I would never have experienced such great service from Kiara.

Looks like Bubba saved your butts. :) How long did she lord that over you?

Only for about 10 minutes

The pork looks delicious, and I'm not really a pork person.

Even if you're not a pork person, you gotta try this!

Just to make sure you don't think I"m a slacker.... I did comment on the last post too. But this one sure made my mouth water. I just had pork too, but I went out running and Bek accidently burned it. A rare occurence for her. She made up for it with another incredible batch of Strawberry SHortcake. :)

Now, I"m wondering if we shouldn't have chosen this over Cali. Grill. Hmmm....

Maybe all the drug-induced haze you experienced was worth it afterall. ;)

Wow, it's great you were able to get a dinner reservation that late!

All that food.....looks so good! I'm a big cheese lover. I always want to try the cheese trays at fancy restaurants, but can never afford them. I'm introducing more cheeses to Andrew too. :thumbsup2

Ok, like Cherie said, my mouth is watering looking at your photos.

You? A slacker?! Never! I know we're all busy and have our own lives to tend to sometimes... MMMMmmmm Strawberry Shortcake. I wish I could cook/bake more. It seems like I never have time and just end up popping a box in the microwave. :sad2: As soon as I move out and live on my own, surely I'll start experimenting. I'll have to if I want to survive! California Grill is still amazing. You will love it. Try the cheese platter (that is if you like cheese) it is to DIE for (just how Scar put it) Oh! And the scallops... delightful! Even if you can't afford them... you still should try them! What's another $12-$14, right? The flavours that explode in your mouth... I feel like Remy every time I'm eating it. Delicious!

Just read your last 2 updates. Food, glorious food. I have heard generally good things about Yak and Yeti, but growing up with Asian food everyday;), I am more a meat and potatoes kind of guy...so I agree with you on it not being a must do.

You didn't like Finding Nemo? my favorite! but my feelings aren't hurt..:)

You probably needed the sleep. But it sounds like Citricos may have been a better meal anyway.....:thumbsup2

Hey glad to see you back again! You're just like my stepdad as far as meat and potatoes go. I would be too if I wasn't a woman trying to watch her figure ;) Awww, I'm sorry about Finding Nemo. I didn't realize it was your favourite. I'll just have to sit that one out at Peepfest in 2012 (is that still going on btw?) Citricos was awesome! You ever eaten there?

My figure is becoming more pear shaped. eek.

Yes peepfest is still happening for sure!!!!

I've heard great things about citricos.

Hey, do you have something against pears?! I'm really looking forward to peepfest! So glad it's still happening. The new value resort should be opening close to that time too! :woohoo:

We had lots of energy to spare after out extended nap. I was feeling a bit disappointed that we didn’t have time to go to MK after dinner like originally planned. In fact, I didn’t get to see the castle again this trip. :sad1: Instead, we went back to Kidani to really dig into what the resort had to offer. Granted it was night time so there would be no animals to be seen. We were more interested in exploring the inners of the resort anyways.
Our adventure begins at the Kidani pool area.

20f6p6q.jpg

6p3j0g.jpg

As soon as I saw this spot with the water guns, I immediately thought of the water war from Glen’s “I Paid Someone $5 for a Catchy Trip Report Title” TR. The place was much less lively at this time of night. It was a bit too chilly to be having water fights anyway.

I loved these guys

5o81nl.jpg

And then I pulled a James Bond moment

20hstit.jpg

Could I really be that cruel? Naaaaaaaah.

Once we finished up around the exceedingly quiet pool area, we left Kidani and walked the path towards Animal Kingdom Lodge. I loved the ambiance these lights provided.

123vzox.jpg

Again from Glen’s TR, he got some really nice shots of these lights. Oh, heck here’s the link to check out his TR (shameless plug): I Paid Someone $5 for a Cathy Trip Report Title, and This Is All I Got

The pathway from Kidani to AKL is fully illuminated, complete with ambient music as you stroll along. It takes about 5-7 minutes to walk over. After being in the Kidani lobby, you really feel the grandness of the AKL lobby.

2hxrgxu.jpg

We found some interesting African artifacts in the nooks and crannys. Some of which I would never take time to look at, running in and out to the parks all day.

2s6tumq.jpg

Honestly, when you stay at a Deluxe resort, you really need to set aside a day just to explore the resort. There’s just so much to see and discover!

We also stumbled upon a very quiet and very closed Boma dining room.

skxe1k.jpg

This was probably the only time I’d ever see this place empty. We went down the stairs to check out the breakfast offerings since we’d be eating there in the morning. After that, Bubba decided to try and get up to the Club Level floors. She was determined there was a loophole to get up there. I just nodded my head and followed her. We walked across a bridge, suspended high up in the lobby. We walked up staircases only to be greeted by locked doors. Eventually we came upon a very nice, secluded balcony viewing area. I forget what floor it was on. Most likely in the daylight hours, we could see out onto the savannah. Since all the bright lights were on around the resort, it made it hard to see any kind of distance. Bubba made one last attempt to get to the elusive Club Level without paying the premium. That is, until we were greeted by this:

14sjdyx.jpg

Blast! Foiled again! Bubba finally had to surrender. It was a nice try though. Disney does a good job to make sure nobody except those who have paid the big bucks are able to get up there.

We wandered a bit more outside to the savannahs to see if there was any hope we could catch a glimpse of animals. To our surprise, we were in luck!

hs8jer.jpg

These guys were the only animals within view. We stood and watched them for a few minutes as they munched at their hay. By this point, we had been wandering around for well over an hour and a half. Our tired feet were starting to scream at us to take a rest. So, we retreated to our room back at Kidani.

I decided that I’d take advantage of that lovely whirlpool tub while Bubba started packing up her stuff. I would work on that after since we were checking out in the morning :sad1:
Funny thing happened when I went to turn on the water in the tub. At first I thought the wine was still getting to me. I don’t know. You tell me!

6pw1ld.jpg

Notice anything peculiar?

We went to bed in good time as we wanted to make sure our last day was well spent. The day was going to bring us breakfast at Boma, horseback riding, and two very sad farewells.

Wow! Thanks for the shout-out and shamless plug! :dance3:

This was a great installment, and I'm not just saying that 'cause you gave me a shout-out (of course that never hurts). You got a couple of very unique and interesting pictures, which I'll get to in a moment. I'm glad you got to explore Kidani and Jambo House and see all of the artifacts in all of the nooks and crannies. I love that place.

Oh this looks so peaceful. Did you ever go in, or was it too cold?

Yep. That's the place where history was made!

Hey, were the mist thingees at the entrance to this play area working? It was a lot of fun to sit and watch new people walk through here checking everything out and then get misted. :rotfl: I can't wait to do that again.

And then I pulled a James Bond moment

20hstit.jpg

Could I really be that cruel? Naaaaaaaah.

I LOVE this picture. I'm kicking myself that I didn't think to do it. I might have to steal the idea in a month or so. It's so awesome that you have Bubba in the sights. :rotfl2:

Oh heck, yeah why not! (Thanks again.) And while we're at it, my current PTR can be found here. Hee hee hee.

After being in the Kidani lobby, you really feel the grandness of the AKL lobby.

I always have to take a picture of the Jambo House lobby. How can you walk in there and not take a picture?

You should have asked about the night vision goggles.

Wow! Thanks for the shout-out and shamless plug! :dance3:

You're welcome! You deserve it :goodvibes

It was really interesting to look around the place. I'd really like to spend a week there (either AKL or Kidani) so I could actually enjoy the pools and see more animals. Are you staying there again in June? I know I could just look it up but I'm too lazy right now

Oh this looks so peaceful. Did you ever go in, or was it too cold?

Nope, we never got to go swimming. It was way too cold anyway. The pool was heated, as we could clearly tell since we could see the steam coming off of it.

Yep. That's the place where history was made!

Queue the epic "Hallelujah" from Handel's Messiah

If there were misty thingies, I don't think they were on. They're probably on during the warmer days. It'd be pretty funny people watching and seeing everyone shocked when they get sprayed!

I LOVE this picture. I'm kicking myself that I didn't think to do it. I might have to steal the idea in a month or so. It's so awesome that you have Bubba in the sights. :rotfl2:

It just came to me right at that moment. The gun was aimed perfectly. I just emphasized it with the angle. I'd love to see what you can come up with!

Oh heck, yeah why not! (Thanks again.) And while we're at it, my current PTR can be found here. Hee hee hee.

:lmao::rotfl::rotfl2: You're hilarious!

I always have to take a picture of the Jambo House lobby. How can you walk in there and not take a picture?

I know! It's just blows you away. That, and WL lobby.

I don't think I've seen that one.

It's kinda off to the side in a little nook. Hey, I thought you've explored the nook and crannies? :rotfl: There ya go. This shall be your quest next time you're there. Find the gun artifact!

Oh how sad. :sad1: A closed Boma.

It was very weird seeing it so empty.

You should have asked about the night vision goggles.

Darn! I'm so bummed I didn't remember this when I was there! See what happens when I don't have enough time?

I LOVE this picture too. It is hilarious! Did you notify maintenance?

It was pretty funny when I found it. I think we let the front desk know when we were checking out. But seriously, how does something like that happen?!

California Grill is still amazing. You will love it. Try the cheese platter (that is if you like cheese) it is to DIE for (just how Scar put it) Oh! And the scallops... delightful! Trust me, you will LOVE it. I want to hear all about it too! Citricos was definitely worth it!

HOW DID YOU KNOW!!??

The cheese platter IS on my must-do's for CG!!! I think I posted that i knew everyone was going to think me weird, but I was going to get the cheese platter and sushi. Oddest combo EVER, but that's waht sounded good. That was BEFORE I found a way to fit in a platter from the Kona cart at the Poly. So Sushi went off, but the cheese platter stayed on. Now, I have to figure out waht to get WITH my delectable cheeses. :confused3 A flatbread??

I doubt I'll get an entree, cuz I really want dessert.... so maybe cheese and one other appie, and dessert. that should do it.
