The end is near...

Like others have suggested, please contact your local Hospice. They were there for my family when my grandmother battled liver cancer. We couldn't have handled her care and passing without them. The Hospice nurses are extraordinary people. My grandmother's nurse would always hug her and tell her she loved her at the end of each visit. The nurse even cried with us as the very end. Hospice will also help you and your mother find the peace that JTB mentioned earlier. Here is a website that Hospice shared with us. I hope you will go to it and find some comfort in the words that are contained there.

I'm so sorry that you are going through this. It is so hard to lose a parent, I lost my Dad to Alzheimers, he was in the final phase and did not know us anymore.

I know that you must be exhausted from all of the stress but you are a wonderful DD to care for your Mum like this.

I'd like to thank you all so much again for such beautiful words & thoughts & prayers. I will print this thread out & read it each time I feel darkness in my heart.

We got to visit with my friend who came in from L.A. & it was so great that my mom was strong enough to go out to eat with us. (This is only because Mom received 3 pints of blood yesterday.) My friend commented that aside from all the bruising Mom has (due to low platelet count) & all the weight she's lost, (& hair) that my mom looked good. I'm glad she'll live with that memory after my mom is gone.

Oh & also, since I posted about making a huge basket of goodies & delivered it to my friend's hotel before she arrived...it went over really big. Especially with her kids!! They just about devoured everything I put in there (food wise!) I'm especially glad I did it now!!

Many more hugs and prayers. I cared for my father as he lost his battle with bone cancer. He had gone through radiation and chemo and finally he just felt as if he was done. He signed a DNR (do not recesitate) and we contacted Hospice. They were so wonderful.

You are a very special and loving daughter. Your mother is so lucky to be surrounded by her family at this time in her life. Letting go of her will not be easy but because you have done so much you will be able to find comfort in doing whatever you could for the woman who gave you life.

I am so sorry to hear you're goinf through this. I lost both my parents in the last year, and although you say it would be easier to let go if she were in pain, just keep thanking God that she's not. I was blessed that my parents both went without much suffering. Sound like it's been a very tough ride for your Mom, but at least she's not in bad pain.

That will give you comfort at some point in the future.

For now, do whatever you have to, find support wherever you can - Hospice is a great place to start.
