the Eiffel Tower at Epcot

how to get closely to the Eiffel Tower at Epcot?

someone have able to take a closely pic of the Eiffel Tower at Epcot ?
:wizard:

Actually the view of the tower is better from a distance. It is mounted on top of a building so you will never see the base of it.

you can see what its sitting on when you take the Countries tour

:guilty: DH and I noticed that during our last trip. I was really surprised they didn't make it more of a focal point in the France Pavilion. It's in the distance on top of a building. Really weird and poor planning in my opinion. I wish they would have made it bigger and even put an elevator going to the top to look out at World Showcase or even a restaurant at the top. That would have been a great addition to the France Pavilion.

It is made to look higher than it really is by forced perspective. That is a trick Imagineers use to make things look bigger than they really are. It is used on Main Steet in the MK to make the castle look taller and in the New York street area of MGM (oops, DHS) to make the cut-out Empire State Building look taller.

If they made it where you could go to the top, then that would ruin the magic. You would be able to see everything backstage.

not even take a pic of you and tower like a closely background:confused3

You can take a picture of yourself that looks like you're close to it, but you cannot actually get physically next to it. It actually makes it more realistic, like you're seeing the tower from inside Paris. If you could approach the tower, one, it would be WAY too tall for the other buildings, and two, would still not look like the real thing because the real thing is surrounded by a large park/grassy area.

You have to remember how big the real eiffel tower is...

This is its shadow:

So if you think about that...the only way to put it in EPCOT was to make a tiny version that looks like it's far away. They did a pretty good job of that I think.

And there is No way they could make it anything like the scale of the real one, so if they made it small and had an elevator it would look rediculous in comparison...
So if you want a photo with it you should get the photo op on the bridge between UK and France pavillions.

I had heard (at one time or another) that the EPCOT Eiffel tower is actually covered in a sticky solution so that birds can not land on it.

Because the tower was built using forced perspective to make it appear alot larger than it actually is, a bird sitting near the top would dwarf the tower. I'm thinking DH and I heard this during the Backstage Magic tour in 2004.

but wouldn't THAT be a cool photo - a bird sitting on the eiffel tower!!:rotfl:

The only problem with that would be that in order for it to have an elevator, it would have to be a HUGE tower that would likely overshadow the entire rest of World Showcase.

Part of the point of WS was to give "equal time" to all the countries, and not have any one icon dominate the skyline of WS. With a huge Eiffel replica with elevator, it would ruin that.

The Eiffel as it is in Epcot right now is more to add to the ambience at the France pavilion giving you a "taste" of France, rather than it being an attraction in and of itself.

Maybe a slipery solution... Seems that a solution on it would wash off in the frequent rain. I am not sure a sticky solution would stop birds from landing on it but rather stick the birds to it and that- would not be cool:scared1: Besides the birds are too busy tring to eat the turkey leg you just bought to think about sitting on the Eiffel tower!

:sad2: I didn't mean a real life-size replica of the Eiffel Tower. I've been to the "real" Eiffel Tower in Paris numerous times and it is quite large. I just felt it was kind of hokey to put it way on top of a building and not to make it "part" of the France Pavilion. Mexico has a Mayan Pyramid which is quite large but does NOT overshadow any other Pavilion. Same with the Pagoda in Japan and St. Mark's Campanile in Italy.

:goodvibes The Imagineers seemed to take great care in creating World Showcase. I am sure there IS a reason for this oversight (logistics, cost, etc . . .).

Just my opinion.

As others have said and I thought Robo would illustrate with one of his great maps. The view of the back of WS is mostly parking lots and for lack of a better term dumps.

Until I started to look around with Google maps and Mapblast's bird's eye view I never realized how little space the counties take up.
