My Sunday morning so far....
I was still sore from my 4 mile walk yesterday- but managed to get out there and do it again. Dh was a sweetie and had already dressed our two daughters and we were waiting for ds to roll out of bed for church. We are a bit behind on laundry and after my shower I went to the closet to find nothing to wear.... oh wait a minute- there's that dress (14W) that I haven't worn in 4 years. Dare I even consider trying it on- what happens if it still won't button around the chest- or my hips stretch the pleats beyond their maximum limits- will I be so discouraged that I go get a value meal from Chick-Fil-A? (Nah, that won't happen they're closed on Sundays)
So I find a pair of that "SUCK YOU IN UNTIL YOU STAND STRAIGHT AS A STICK" underwear thinking this would help me get into it. I then saw a slip that was way too little- but this dress required a slip so I tried it on- Whew- it's stretched out but fits! Let me first add that after a shower it's pretty difficult to put that kind of no-wire girdle on- that was about a 3 minute feat- but it was nice to see that everything was in position and not bulging out like it used to.
The defining moment- slipping the dress over my head- oops forgot to take the towel off my hair- a little stressed before I realized this. The dress SLIPPED on and as I buttoned the four buttons in the front- I realized- IT FITS!!!!! My arms have room to move (just a little) but I can actually twist my body under this dress and the dress doesn't twist with me!!! Then I stress- I only own 4 pairs of shoes- could I actually get away with wearing tennis shoes (nice leather ones) with this spring dress? Or could I wear brown leather sandles with a yellow/blue dress- I really didn't care- I'M IN THE DRESS- who cares about my feet? I was beaming as I head into the living room- excited to go to church in my smaller dress. (I'm sure everyone at church would be relieved to see me in something other than my 2 dresses I've worn for 3 months!!) My husband comments how nice I look- I smile. Then, I hear my ds struggling to breath- uh oh- allergies/asthma hit again. I was torn- I was so proud I had gotten into this dress and moreover the underwear! So dh says, "I'll stay with him, you take the girls." But then my ds says, "Mommy, I want you to stay with me." Well, that clinches it, I go back into the bathroom to admire the dress that fits- take it off, the slip and put on my grunge clothes. I snuggle with ds and beam because- even though I didn't get to go "out" in the dress- I definitely got in it.
Thanks WISH board- these little victories make my day and keep me inspired to stay healthy!!
