The DVC tour?

My parents are thinking about going down for a few days to tour the DVC resorts. They are thinking about buying, not sure if they want to buy a resale or thru Disney. They also are not sure about which resort, but I have encouraged them to be careful on their choice and go with the resort they really want to stay at most.

Has anyone been recently thru the DVC sales presentation? I told my Mom I read it was low pressure. What exactly happens and how long does it take? Will they tour you thru all the DVC resorts or only thru SSR? Is it worth the time?

My guide told me over the phone that the current SSR incentive wouldn't expire after talking with him, but I've read here otherwise. Haven't I read that after taking the tour you only have a few days to decide before the incentive ends? I just don't want to suggest the tour to them and then it be held against them if that makes any sense.

Will they come pick them up from their resort for the presentation at SSR?

Thanks!

Can't speak first-hand, but if you are on file as referring them to DVC, they should have been assigned to your Guide. If you're comfortable with him, I suspect your parents will have an equally good experience.

They will only give you a guided tour of SSR, but will still answer questions about the entire program and other resorts. If they want to visit the other resorts, the front desk is normally glad to give them a couple of minutes to visit in empty room if they have one available.

They normally want about 90 minutes to give a good presentation, but can do it in less if your parents stipulate as such.

That normally only happens if the FIRST contact is during an on-site tour at DVC or on a DCL cruise. Folks who have contacted DVC for a video or other info or have spoken on the phone seem to get classified as remote buyers with no restrictions placed on the incentives.

Realistically, even if a time limit is given, you can lock-in the incentive for an indefinite period by giving a REFUNDABLE $500 deposit. That's when they send the paperwork, which can be held for 30 or more days until one is ready to move forward. If one decides to go resale or not buy, DVC will refund the deposit.

Yes. They should also drop them off at their choice of destinations when the tour is over. Schedule it in advance to make sure there aren't any conflicts.

Thanks tjkraz.
I have talked with my guide for them, but haven't actually referred them yet. I was trying to do a little homework for them before I handed them over so to speak.

So, I'm wondering if they need to personally talk to my guide before going down to lock in the incentive before actually taking a tour so they don't get stuck with that incentive expiring in three days???

I think they'll probably end up wanting BWV, but I'm trying not to put anything into their heads. I want them to go down and really check them all out before making a decision.

90 minutes isn't too long. They are really going down specifically to look over the DVC resorts, might only do one park while down there.

Sounds like a wise idea.

If you log into the member website there is a place to enter referrals. That should be enough to get them into the system. If they want to do it themselves, point them to www.dvcfriends.com. Via the web portals you can either request that the DVD be sent or actually ask for a phone call from the Guide.

If they end up calling instead of using the web, the one of the first questions the operator should ask is whether or not a current member told them about DVC.

No matter how you go about it, whenever a referral is made they assign the individual to the same Guide as the referring member. IMO that's the right way to do it because you know the level of service the person will be receiving before you even refer them to DVC.

With regard to the promotional discount, I'd suggest that you or they just ask up-front if there will be any limits on the decision making timeframe. Remember that the promotions are only good for SSR points. They can get SSR for $90 each with the discount. BWV points would be $92 each, or they could go the resale route.

Perhaps the easiest thing to do is just order the information package as it then puts them into the remote classification. As an aside, I had enquired in early June about the incentives that had been going on at SSR but were scheduled to expire on June 19 so it is possible to extend some of these incentives. I wasn't ready to make a decision but since I had talked to them, it had been extended to July 19. I think in this case, ordering the information package is the best way to lower the pressure to purchase and get the incentives without worrying that it is only good for a short period of time.

If they are down there, there is a showing at SSR between 5 PM and 7 PM at nights so they can feel the rooms in a very low pressure setting as well. I never took the tour but this is what I did.
