How they get paid, according to the show:
- Jim bob owns commerical property he rents
- They save money by buying everything used (including clothes)
- They make everything (like their house)
- They make money from the reality show.

-they wrote a book
-he held public office
-owned at least 3 businesses - tow truck, convenience store, and used car lot

I agree that she should be taking care of the kids and not making the older ones do it all. They want a childhood, I'm sure  And after such a traumatic 19th birth, one would think she'd just be content that she had so many healthy children in a row and call it quits.

She is putting her faith and trust in the Lord.:)

LOL. That reminds me of this joke:

A religious man is on top of a roof during a great flood. A man comes by in a boat and says "get in, get in!" The religous man replies, " no I have faith in God, he will grant me a miracle."

Later the water is up to his waist and another boat comes by and the guy tells him to get in again. He responds that he has faith in god and god will give him a miracle. With the water at about chest high, another boat comes to rescue him, but he turns down the offer again cause "God will grant him a miracle."

With the water at chin high, a helicopter throws down a ladder and they tell him to get in, mumbling with the water in his mouth, he again turns down the request for help for the faith of God. He arrives at the gates of heaven with broken faith and says to Peter, I thought God would grand me a miracle and I have been let down." St. Peter chuckles and responds, "I don't know what you're complaining about, we sent you three boats and a helicopter."

You can LOL all you want, but your joke has nothing to do with the Duggars and their decision to trust in the Lord.

If you want to know read about the quiverful life.

I had never heard of this (as I don't watch the Duggar's more than the two seconds when I'm scrolling through the channels). I googled and it's very interesting (not in a good way to me personally but to each their own). Answers a lot of the questions that people may have on this thread.

There are many levels of the QF lifestyle....just like there are many levels of how everyone lives. I mean some people live green, and other people really really really live green LOL So just because someone is QF doesn't make them some kind of crazy cult family.

I would be interested to see a day behind the scenes and it often seems all the children do, indeed, do everything including the laundry, cooking, cleaning, bathing and dressing the younger ones, etc.:confused3

My oldest does much of that for my youngest. Yet I am the one she runs to when she has a boo-boo, or a nightmare, or just for a snuggle. I am also the one who teaches heer - right from wrong, as well as blue from yellow, and elbow from knee. I am her Mommy and she knows it. My youngest also knows that my oldest is training to be a good homemaker, just as she hopes to be one day. All my children are looking forward to raising as many children as the Lord chooses to bless them with for His Glory. They feel sorry for families with only 2 or 3 children and pray daily for the Lord to bless me with more. :cool1:

My oldest dd also helps with many of the day to day things when I need her to. We do not ask her to do a lot though, because she'll have her own house and children one day and if she was to do everything around here she'd be burnt out LOL before she even got to adulthood. She knows how to do it though...that's what we find most important.

I agree that the quiverful principals are not for me. They seem to work very well for the Duggars however.

I will say that medically the body has a harder time carrying pregnancies as a woman ages and also with increasing pregnancies/deliveries. It would be prudent to perhaps consider quantity as well as quality of life with so many of their children still being young and in need of their parents.

I thought oh ok they are thirfty and thats how they do it but other shows make me wonder. Expensive stoves, kitchen, tile through the whole house etc. I'm sure they are making good money from the show. Anyone know if they are paid by person or family? How did they do it before the show:confused3

You obviously didn't watch any of their Discovery specials "before TLC"...

Actually, the house you see on TV, every week took the family several years to build (originally, it was an amalgamation of 2 identical pre-fab houses). Once their TV specials gained traction, TLC brought some people in to assist with the building (and the interior decoration).

As for the kitchen, it is well-known that Jim-Bob frequents auctions for used restaurant equipment, which would be appropriate to feed that crowd.

They also introuced many viewers to Aldi stores, for the very first time -- the Duggars buy cases and more cases of cheap eats, there...

As for "before the show", it was tough, as their last home was a rental of about 2,500 square feet.

It should be noted that Jim-Bob was once a prominent Arkansas politician and their religious teachings forbid the use of any sort of credit, whatsoever.

Pretty neat, huh?

I don't think its neat I think its socially irresponsible. Honestly many of the ideas they are following religiously were based in time when this country was just being founded and there were not many people here. Well that time has past and now the world is dealing with over population. Perhaps they should adjust their ideals to match the long term needs of their children and someday grandchildren. Have a few kids love them and raise them right you want more adopt. Their are plenty of wonderful babies our there that need a loving home.

I'm not saying they have bad ideals I just think so many kids is bad...your supposed to be part of a community not form your own community.

THEY HAD SOME LAND THAT SOME CELL TOWERS WERE BUILT ON AND ARE BEING PAID BOOKOO BUCKS FOR RENTING THE SPACE/FOR THE TOWERS

still I think they seem nice, but judging from the husband's behavior about the last child and his wife's health (although concerned), he still seems eager to have more kids. bit disturbing really. oh and the new season show the older kids going away to do charity work -- I'd leave too - it's probably like a vacation to not have 10 others to care for all the time, no matter how much you love them. I've also hypothesized about how much will they be able to give each kid. Josh, the oldest, got a house and a business (car dealership), now he has to make the bills. With their load of kids, how much will be left for the youngest AND do the girls get a business? They teach the girls more maternal/feminine roles/jobs, so do they get told find a man and have kids or what? Something to chew over. Nothing against their beliefs, it's their lives...just some questions popcorn::

I've heard that the father had the family declared as a church so he doesn't pay taxes.

(I don't know the exact details of how one goes about doing that and to tell you the truth, I don't have a definitive source about the Duggars.)

How is she not too tired to 'make' these babies?
(trying to keep it PG:laughing:)
I am not being goofy. I have really always wondered. My household with a teenager, and twin toddlers wears me out. I want some of Michelle Duggar's vitamins! :worship:

I love Duggar threads. It's as entertaining as the show! popcorn:: Lots of different perspectives and interesting opinions. Good to expose myself to new and different ideas.

You don't need vitamins. Just make your teenager take care of the twins, do the laundry, clean and cook and you'll have plenty of energy. That's what Michelle does.
