The Duggar Family is pregnant AGAIN!

Ok I don't watch the show but has anyone heard the parents tell the young adult sons that they could not move out, live on their own, or experience college? My cousin (very educated, he's a dentist) did not move until he was 35. He felt comfortable at home and he loved his parents. Do you think that it may be weird because these children really do love their parents and you don't see the "normal" rebellion of teens in there family?
Your cousin was very fortunate there was a university and a dental school near his Mom's home...that also accepted him. Most students need to leave their local neighborhood for an education, especially if they are getting an advanced degree. They go where the programs are.
My problem is that the eldest is being encouraged to think he has a chance at law school, while living at home, not enrolled in a regular university. He will have to have a degree, and very good lsat scores to even be considered for law school. Once there, he will have to perform at a high level. Most law schools are particular about their bar pass rates and they don't keep students in that are barely passing or failing. He needs some realistic understanding of what it takes to get in, and stay in law school.
Oh, and rebellion has nothing to do with it. Generally rebellious kids aren't knocking themselves out to get an advanced degree. One needs to be highly motivated to achieve at law school.

She's totally into their kids at least as long as they depend on her as a food source. Once they can eat solids she's got to make another one to maintain that "bond" with something. I'm actually a little surprised she's not one of those mothers that "B" feeds until the kids decide they don't want any more.

I think the poor lady has an obsession with pregnancy and newborns. It's a very creepy fetish.

I don't think its about the "bond" at all. I think she likes the attention of being pregnant, the "Queen Bee." It doesn't make sense if she was addicted to the bond that she would wean them at 6 months. And with the way they try economize it seems weird they would be buying formula. But she needs to wean at 6 months so she can ovulate again. It's all about the thrill of announcing her pregnancy, getting the media attention and having the family worship her for her fecundity while her children work like dogs so she can keep up her addiction.

Now, that she gets to go on national television to announce once again the miraculous joining of JimBob's sperm to her ovum... you can't get much more attention than that.

These people make me sick.

Not necessarily! ;)

So what else can you come up with that is gender specific? Prostitutes can be male or female.

Okay, wet nurse. What else?

Really? I don't know if I've ever seen them looking longingly into each other's eyes. To me Jim Bob is like the CEO of Dugger, Inc. and Michelle is the baby factory that keeps them staffed.

She is the brood mare.

I doubt he will have any problems getting into the law school that was mentioned earlier. It is the only one considered acceptable by their faith, and is ran by the same organization that they home school through. However I have my doubts that anyone graduating from that law school can actually pass a bar exam.

My bad. I was thinking he'd want to attend an accredited law school.

Does she really wean at 6 months? Because it is possible to ovulate while you are nursing, and it is possible to tandem nurse a toddler and a newborn.

I got a little creeped out by the picture of one of the older girls with the newborn in the baby carrier. That should be the mother's job.

If anyone really is interested about the Amish practice of Rumspringa ("running around"), read Rumspringa: To be or not to be Amish by Tom Shachtman.

She IS living in a fantasy world. How many mothers give birth, BF for 6 months, then had the kid off to the eldest daughter to finish raising? None that I know of  It is like Aisling said earlier, she seems to hav ethe OCD about having babies.

I wonder how she is going to feel when she can no longer have more babies, about like I do, not being able to have any at all :confused3

She BFs for a year.

Are you saying that something is wrong with "child-led" weaning? :confused3

Just a few notes:

Michelle Duggar truly believes that it is God's will for her to have as many children as possible and that birth control is a sin; that children are blessings from God and to be sought after. This does not mean that she is mentally ill. (FTR, my sister has the same religious beliefs and has 10 children.)

I have not seen the specials on the Duggars, but does she truly hand off ALL parenting at 6 months, or do the older children simply HELP with the younger ones? My sister's older children definitely help with the younger ones, but believe me, my sister is still the mother and still does the lion's share of the work. Perhaps it seems more organized to Michelle to have child A "responsible" for children B and C.

I have lot of problems with ATI and gender roles, but I also have a lot of respect for people who truly live what they believe.

Also, FWIW, my sister's oldest daughter just graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in journalism, is interning this summer with the Wall Street Journal, and just married the guy she fell in love with.

She REALLY hands off responsibility of the younger children to the older children, as well as the housework, cooking, laundry, dishes, etc.

The only thing I have seen her do is teach their lessons and make babies.

OK, well homeschooling involves a lot of time interacting with each child. I wonder how much time she spends interacting with the kids while schooling them? (Again, I haven't seen the specials. This is an honest question. I did go and watch the Today video, and saw a clip of her working with one of the kids at the table.)

I've been sick for the last 9 months, and my 14yo has done far more than her share of helping out with her 8yo sister (and the housework, too). I asked her today if she resented it, and she assured me that she doesn't. (She also knows that I don't take her for granted!)

The older children have a certain time of the day where they work with the younger children, while mom does who knows what.

One of the older girls has to do all the laundry, one had to fix lunch, and yet another one has to cook dinner. There is nothing wrong with helping out/having chores, but Michelle Duggar lets her girls do most if not all of the house work and the boys do the yard work.

Here is a run down of their day, from their website
