The Dress

Thank you! I got it at David's Bridal n NY. I had the back remade into a corset though & that was done in Waco.

I got my dress at a local boutique called Bridals by Lori. I actually went in to purchase a different dress, then I saw another bride wearing the dress I had gone in to purchase when I realized that I really wanted a fuller skirt. So I tried on some additional dresses and found "the one."

It was a Lazaro gown with a fuller skirt and intricately beaded bodice. I loved it and knew it was the right gown for me. It was $3300, plus an additional $1000 for alterations (long story involving me gaining quite a big of weight and having to order additional fabric and beadwork and have the bodice entirely remade). The veil and tiara were an additional $1200 (I had two veils that attached to each other--one was cathedral length and one was below my elbows).

My gown/veil was one of my big wedding splurges, but I'm so happy I chose what I did.

I went to a shop I'd never heard of outside of Raleigh called Weddings To Go. I stumbled on it while going to another shop in the same shopping center. The dress is a Jasmine Bridal, same designer as DIsNeYSweEtHrTs dress. Mine is a different style - strapless with a puffy tule skirt. I feel very Cinderella in this dress!

The cost was $750 and it's custom fit instead of ordering it in a size they took my measurements and it's now being made to fit me exactly, no alterations!!!!! It takes 4 months to get it, so if I manage to lose a few pounds before the wedding, then can take in the bodice a little, but the hem and bustle are done already, so shouldn't be much if I need any.

My veil and tiara are borrowed from a good friend that got married 2 years ago, so no cost there.

This is my second marriage so I chose to go a little more informal; I am actually having a bridesmaid dress made in ivory...I feel in love with it...sort of a 50's style.

The dress is an Alfred Angelo...I love the whole collection...

Good luck and best wishes!

PS: I see that you met each other on the CP...I was on the CP in 1991...what great memories and even greater for the both of you! Building 17, Vista Way!!! :)

Another Alfred Angelo lover here ... I got this dress in ivory and indigo and my bestfriend wore this dress also in indigo.

I *loved* this dress from the moment I saw it online. I found a shop close by in NH that carried it, tried this and one other dress on just to say I did try something else on, and just knew it was the one. A good friend was with me the day I tried on the dress and she said my face just lit up!

ETA: The dress and petticoat cost $688 total. I had to have it custom ordered both because of the color combination and in extra long (dresses are made for women 5'9" and I'm 5'10") and extra wide - which is me making a joke about myself so don't anyone get bent out of shape! I thought the price was VERY reasonable because the material just seemed so much richer on the Alfred Angelo than a very similar Davids dress that didn't have all of the beautiful embroidery and at the time only had one blue to choose from where Alfred Angelo had 8 different shades.

I got mine at David's Bridal. It was being discontinued, and wasn't even in the catalog or website. I happened to see it on the rack and tried it on. I loved it!!! It was listed at $599, but i got it for $349! So I just bought it right then and there! I can't wait to wear it. :cloud9:

I'm still working on getting pictures up but here's one of the dress - we're using it for our thank you notes.

It's now in my signature :-) (and not hosted through yahoo!)

Are any of you wearing a veil or headpice by Toni Federicci - headpieces by Toni? She and her business is located in the same town where I will live - here prices are so expensive - I got my gown at Neiman Marcus an Amsale - I am not going to say how much it was but I tried on the veil and they wanted 800 bucks for it - heck I bought one from the bridal shop that I worked for and put my own rhinestones on it - my tiara I bought at Saks it was outrageous and I am embarrassed to say how much I spent - It was however much less than the viel which was the reason the veil was so ridicluous!

I think that Neiman Marcus and Saks are considered really high end stores...so I can only imagine how expensive their entire bridal departments are! What's your dress look like? :)

Edit: In my town we call Neiman Marcus "Needless Markups!" ...just a joke! :rotfl: Oh, and I bought my bridal purse from there, and I was surprised that the only credit card they except is American Express...and they don't except debit cards....it's cash or American Express...that it.

Actually the my gown was the least expensive one that I tried on there - they had a trunk show this weekend and I am not sure who the gowns were by but one of them looked like that metlasse bedding fabric and it was 6000 - OMG

I just got a Neiman card - they you get points and I got 150 gift certificate for opening the charge and bought an outfit for my tea party - well I planned to wear it to my shower but it was freezing here-

This one carries Amsale, Monique Lullihier (sp) Kenneth Pool ( which is a division of Amsale) I am not sure what else I tried on mostly the above mentioned - Saks carries those plus Vera Wang - when I bought my gown the sales rep was there so that was nice since they were having a trunk show.

My gown is a halter with a Deep V large broach on the waist and a chapel train - very simple!!!

Sounds beautiful! princess: I have been considering wearing a broach on my sash. Mine is a Monique Lhuillier dress. :)

I got mine at Jessica McClintock. It was only $234 including tax and delivery. I don't think I'm going to need any alterations. The dresses at Jessica McClintock are beautiful and very well priced. I got my bridesmaids dresses there as well. I went to David's first and hated that place. The dresses all looked so generic and were itchy and felt cheap. I know a lot of peole get their dresses there, but I would never recommend it.

I live near Chicago and every weekend for the whole month of November, Macy's Bridal Salon is having designer wedding dress trunk shows. The designers being showcased are Vera Wang, Reem Acra, Ines Di Santo, and Justina McCaffrey (I'm really excited about the the last one :woohoo: ). However, I am totally clueless and do not have any idea what a trunk show is like. Can anyone explain to me what one is and what you usually do at one? I figure you go to look at the collection(obviously) but is there a lot of pressure to buy? I hate putting myself in situations where I might make a too quick decision. Any opinions on these ladies?

Hello.

Since I am the groomie, I don't know which Specific dress my DF has picked.

I know that she picked a Maggie Satero(sp?) with a sweep train in white for about 1000.00 (I asked the color and train length).

Then we were able to find a Catholic church to have a home wedding(her mothers wish). So on wards the second dress search continues since now she has a HUGE aisle way to walk down.

The second dress was a choice between an Eve of Milady (3500.00), Reem Acra(6000.00), and Casablanca(1000.00). She is thinking of the Casablanca due to the reason that they Hem the dress for free and you can make custom alterations through them(ie: beading, embelishments, extra length to the train).

Don't worry about finding the dress on your first shop visit. We are in Washington and have visited at least ten bridal shops and a wedding expo. Sometimes you just have to try on the dress a second time.

Remember to have fun!

When I picked out my dress, there was a trunk show going on for Justina McCaffrey! I tried on one of their dresses, and almost bought it....before I saw a different one. It was a strapless ivory dress with drapes, and drapes of beautiful fabric. I actually saw that exact dress in a magazine advertizing their designs. They just had a bunch of McCaffrey dresses displayed, and Justina McCaffrey's brother was there representing the designs. There wasn't very many people there....he saw me try on a McCaffrey dress...and said "you look beautiful in that dress." ...and when he saw that I actually went with a different dress....he looked so sad...and was sitting in a chair looking a bit sulky. I felt bad...but when you find the perfect dress... :confused3 ....what can you do?

I bought mine during the Amsale trunk show - but I had already tried it on twice - once at neimans and once at saks - it just happened they were having a trunk show the day I bought it - Now saying that - the sales rep MONTE had very definite ideas of what type of gown I should be in - there was a gown that was over 5000 that was gorgeous that he had me try on but it was straighter through the body and a lot more than my gown and I liked my gown - A LOT. he was also teasing me b/c I am busty and my gown is a halter w/ a deep V (I thought you saw more in the strapless gowns than in this one personally) and he said that it was a slutty wedding gown - he was gay and I was not offended (you had to be there he was teasing ) but just know that a lot of time the designers and reps will have ideas . My gown appeared on the cover of brides maybe Oct of last year and the model was very skinny and no curves (my gown is a 12 - I wear 8-10 regular clothes right now but am busty and have a small waist) and it did not look like the same dress on me - I did not even notice the gown on her and it was hilarious because it was the mag that was in the car that I was looking at on the 2 hour drive to the store!

Just get what you like----

I went to go buy my dress at the most well known dress boutique in our city, and once I got there, the saleslady told me they had a clearance centre in the basement that I should check out. I went there in early February (very off season and great time to look for deals) and found a $750+tax dress in my size range which had been discontinued and had a long train that could not be detached (unlike most dresses these days). It had been marked down to $99 (from $350) that morning. I loved my dress and wore it all night princess:

I purposly stayed away from bridal magazines and bridal shows as we were on a budget, and it is SO easy to get carried away with things when you are looking at designer items. The bridal industry wants you to buy into everything - its BIG business. Just get something timeless and suited to your shape and style and you can't go wrong :)

Yay! another GA Disney bride!

I got mine at House of Brides and paid somewhere between $1000 and $1500 for it. Like many other girls said, I didn't care about the price b/c it was the perfect dress. HOB was definitely not the perfect store, though. I would not recommend anyone go there for a dress. I also found out the exact same dress was about half the price on the HOB website, but not in the stores. Such a rip-off. But I still love the dress! :bride:
