The Dixie Chicks Denounce President Bush

I have a Dixie Chicks CD. I like Bush, and I support our troops. I'm still going to play my CD....

I'm ashamed of them! Why did they have to bring politics into it anyway? Even if they disagree with President Bush's policies, as Americans they should have shown a little respect for our leader and our country. As American entertainers, they are unofficial ambassadors of the USA. At a time when so many countries dislike us,this was not the thing to do. Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you have to make everyone aware of it. No matter what our party affiliation,we all need to present a united front.

I agree totally with this statement! Thanks for saying what I was thinking!

Let's hope people don't buy their CDs now! :teeth: They have zero singing abilities as it is.

Thank you! I thought I was the only one who thought they couldn't sing! Everytime I hear them singing Landslide, I can't turn it off fast enough!

Like their music, I support Bush, and I'll still listen to their music.

I have no interest of singers opinions on Bush or politics or the war. The great thing about this country is that we are all able to voice our opinions. I make up my own mind and it will have no bearing on what the Dixie Chicks think.

I know that everybody has a right to voice their opinions. I just wish all actors, actresses, and singers would keep their opinions off the airwaves. I don't want to know where they stand politically because then I feel I dhould "boycott" them if I really disagree. Why can;t they just do their job and talk politics off camera like the rest of us have to do?

Looks like they're taking a little flack over their comments now - radio stations in San Antonio and Kansas have banned playing their songs.

You can read all their comments in the Yahoo Article:

Personally, I support the President's view on Iraq and Natalie Maines' right to voice her opinion. (She did back peddle some saying she did support our troops.) I also support anyone's decision to NOT listen to their music if they wish. So...I think I'll put on a Dixie Chicks CD and vote for Bush in 2004!;)

I think they need to make a stop in Kuwait on their World Tour and perform for our troops. Let's see if she makes her feelings known there. She wouldn't have the nerve because she knows she'd be booed off the stage.

I own every CD the Chicks have made and I've been to three of their concerts. I was a Dixie Chicks fan even before they made it big. Well, that's over with. The CD's are in the trash where they belong and I'll never contribute another dime to their wealth. While my son (a United States Marine) lives in a tent 20 miles from the Iraq border and has sand in his food, his bed, his nose and ears - Natalie Maines relishes in her wealth with the freedom of speech that my son gives her.

Our local country radio station is no longer playing their songs and as far as I'm concerned, the Chicks can stay in France. They'll be in for a RUDE awakening the next time they set foot on a stage in the good old U.S.A.

So what if they said that? It's there right to say anything they want to as Americans. Free speech is one of the fundamental values our country was founded upon, it's what makes our country so great.

The right to speak out without the fear of punishment, IS one of the most sacred things about our country, we should hold it dear and celebrate!

My grandfathers fought in WW2, my DH is a USMC Gulf war vet, they fought to protect our country so we can have these rights.

I say the more opinions the better, everyone should feel that they can speak out without fear because THIS IS America, the land of the free!

If our troops are fighting in part for freedom of speech, why are some US citizens so angry when freedom of speech is used?

My DH served in Desert Storm. He volunteered to go over to SA in August of 1990. He didn't have to go, but wanted to go. That's how we met- he was my Air Force Pen Pal to whom I sent care packages. I'm not anti-American, but I am pro freedom of speech.

I think I'm going to go put on my Dixie Chicks CD... :D

Natalie is entitled to her opinion. And she's entitled to say what she wants to whomever she wants. But I wish she'd kept her mouth shut. Actually I wish all of these "celebs" would shut up. I'm not going to vote for Bush because Arnold tells me to and I'm not going to vote for Clinton because Babs likes him. I'm an adult, I can make up my own mind and get the facts on my own. Just because you are a recording star, movie star, etc. doesn't make you an expert on politics, policies, etc.

On the other hand, Natalie was on Trading Spaces and she's the only homeowner who got to chose who she would work with. Her choices were Vern (who worked on her room) and Hildi (who worked with her on her mother's room). Now what does that say about her tastes and opinions? ;)

Oh my gosh, I didn't know she got to PICK! That's just wrong -- I wouldn't wish Hildi on my worst enemy.

i strongly dislike president bush and i am against war 100% but i still support our troops; i'm even sending care packages.

maybe she feels the same way.

Thank you Brenda for pointing out that the raises giving to the military personal had nothing to do with President Bush and in fact were a result of proposals pushed through by the Clinton administration.

The situation where many of the brave men and women in our military recieve pay near poverty levels is a disgrace and a situation that was the same during the Reagan years, the Bush Sr. years, the Clinton years, and is still happening today. . .

The massive amounts of money going to the "military" are for the most part going to the huge defense contractors, and too much of that goes for $500 toilet seats and defense equipment and systems that don't work or are obsolete upon arrival. . . and then part of the money is kicked back to the politicians in the form of both legal and illegal campaign contributions, trips, etc.

Both Democrats and Republicans are equally guilty of perpetuating the situation because they all benefit, and our military people end up getting the shaft.

As far as the comments by the Dixie Chicks or anyone else celebrity or otherwise; not only do they have a right to voice their opinion, but as Americans they have an obligation to speak out if they disagree with the policy of any President or government official. . . just as anyone who agrees with the President has the right and obligation to voice their support in the same manner.

I have no problem with people being upset with them and burning their CDs, boycotting them, etc. but I would like to point out that as this Iraq situation progesses and Bush continues to lose support and the benefit of the doubt both here and abroad, the list of celebrities, writers, friends, and other countries you'll need too boycott is going to be so extensive your list of what foods you can eat or what kind of entertainment you can enjoy is going to be pretty small. .

I think it's more insulting to Texans....not just Pres. Bush....like someone from Texas isn't fit to be President???

Seems like a dumb comment on her part since I'm guessing that many Texans are country music fans......don't bite the hand that feeds you kind of thing......

WAIT....my brain just wrapped around it another way....I get it now....sorry! Still it's quite a cutdown to those Texans who support him.
