Bonnie, sorry about that. I think it must go both ways. My aunt & uncle has raised a child with a handicap and they did so much wrong with her that she is just practically helpless. All she has is epilepsy (severe yes and she will never be able to drive or do some things because of it) but she has the mentality of a 14 year old and she is almost 26. Her parents blame the epilepsy, but others can't because they saw how it all happened. So that what was on my brain when I said what I did. I do understand also that sometimes it is nothing the parents can help and knowing what I know of you Bonnie, I am sure you've done wonderfully with your kids

I have lots of recipes ( I collect cookbooks after all) but the crockpot mac n cheese was not mine. I make mine in the oven.

Elaine, excellent point! Sometimes though, people are too quick to judge the parents when they don't know what they are talking about. I sat once at my son's ballgame where another parent who didn't know me, sat behind me and criticized me for my son's behavior, not knowing she was sitting behind "the mother from hell". I politely told her that as his adopted mom, I was fully aware of his issues, that it was not me who abused him until age 5, and would she like to help out with the psychiatrist bills? I wanted to ask her if her behavior was a reflection of her parents lessons to her. Without even a word of apology, she just glared at me and went to sit in her car. She didn't even have the good grace to apologize.

You know, y'all are bad for the diet. First it was cookies last night, now I think I'm going to have to make mac n cheese!

I was just on Blondie's thread about Richmond schools closing and I got pretty ANGRY!!! There are people on that thread calling parents here hysterical and overreactive!!!! BobO lives in Milwaukee!!! How the heck would HE know what it feels like to have somebody hunting your kids like a deer?!?! Oh man...I didn't make any friends over there tonight...and I don't care! They were pretty dogone insensitive!!! OOOOOOO....

And with all that I have to deal with already, Bonnie makes an "age crack"!!! Well!!! Sometimes it becomes blatantly obvious who your friends are...or aren't!!! So my space meeting was a huge hit! We got all but 1 activity done. The girls were a riot..at our closing we were talking about what field trips we wanted to plan and I was giving them some suggestions. They were excited about every one of them. I laughed and said... "I think you guys would agree to go to a dump if I suggested it..." They got all excited and yelled CAN WE????

More trouble with the ex-leader Seems now she is calling some of MY parents This has got me down....my reputation is being shred to bits in this community (and it's a VERY small community) by her lies and I just feel like if I address them, I'll be stepping down to her level and putting others in the middle of this craziness. One of my moms asked me today if we would ever camp with this other womans troop. I told her no and she asked what was going on (we are good friends) I told her, but she had no good advice. I guess I'm damed if I do and damed if I don't.

Bonnie, I think you are so right. We shouldn't judge parents until we know the whole situation (or at least a lot of it). I must say I do applaud people like you who take in children who need all the love and attention you have to give after something so terrible like that happens to them. I can't even imagine how hard it is but I am so glad that there are many like you out there doing your best with the kids And that lady was rude! I felt horrible for saying what I had in reference to my cousin around you I couldn't imagine not apologizing for something like that!

Jodie, I have a general rule about BobO... I ignore him. I know from the past that he and I will never see eye to eye so on a thread like that I will just ignore him. Not that he is bad, just I know that reading his replies would make me mad. I think that parents need to do what they feel is best for their children and if the higher ups say no school then so be it! I really feel bad for all those in that area. My prayers are with you Jodie and all affected by this.

OK, I feel a little responsible for the child/parent behavior thing. I guess I should add a little more to my booger story.

The principal called Mike's mom because this was not the first infraction that had happened but the principal was concerned that Mike felt that he could demand someone to do somthing and if they didn't do what he wanted he could manhandle and drag someone to the office.

The mother came in and talked to Mike. I stayed in the hall because I felt that Mike would talk to his mom and lead teacher(she was doing IEPs that day and was in the building) in a more open manner. They called me in and made Mike apologize to me. I sat there with tears coming down my face. Well, mom was asked to stay the rest of the day with Mike. When we were walking to art he kicked his shoe off and demanded that she go get the shoe (now the meeting about all this was just around 15 minutes before this) The mom ran down the hall and got his shoe for him. I was in shock. I felt really used by the mom and the kid. She made him apologize and then turned around and sent him a mixed message. That is why I do not want to sub in that classroom anymore. I was not prepared for what happened that day and because of that I couldn't understand the moms reaction.

Just wanted to clarify that there are many reasons why children react the way they do and if they are special needs children they also need someone who is trained and educated on their situation and I wasn't.
