The Disneyland Hotel Superthread

I never thought I'd be able to say this as it has always been a dream that I could never get.
But I have the chance to stay at the Disneyland Hotel in one of the DVC rooms - a duo studio for a couple of nights in early March 2025, I am going to rent some DVC points and the price is around what we would pay off-site.
Tell me everything I need to know about staying here, the perks I can get and the magical feel etc.

It's always been a dream as the price point is so huge for us, I can never justify the price for a room, but I have a chance to come for a few days with just my Husband and not our kids so it is now do-able.

How exciting! You may want to check out the VDH thread on the DVC side of the boards. There are lots of good reviews of duos and some nice photos.

I have only stayed in a 1 bedroom, but from what I understand about duo studios is that some have balconies and some don't. Not sure on the exact proportion. There are also standard views and preferred views. I think the thread above breaks down the categories (and someone made a map) in one of the earlier posts.

The duo studios have real plates, silverware, glasses and utensils (of course all for two!). There is a small fridge, microwave and toaster in the room as well. While the studios don't have a washer and dryer, you have access to the communal washers and dryers in the Discovery Tower (it's a small fee, I've only ever used the ones at VGC and I think it was $3 or so for a wash or dry).

Be sure to check out the Palm Breeze bar...it's located right near the DVC pool (Palette pool). And if your room doesn't have a pool view, be sure to check it out at night. The colors and lighting are amazing.

I hope you and the hubby have a great time!

There isn't a separate line at security or at the gate/turnstiles. Disneyland currently opens at 8, so early entry starts at 7:30. They will open the gates to everyone a few minutes before that. I usually see people recommending that you be there by 7. We usually get there earlier than that, but I like to be one of the first in line at the turnstiles and my family is cooperative.

At Disneyland, once you are past the turnstiles, early entry guests stay to the right on Main Street. There's a separate checkpoint near Plaza Inn, once you pass that, you head into Fantasyland or Tomorrowland. You'll need to show your room key or pull up your resort hotel reservation in the Disneyland app, so be sure you either have your room key in hand or your reservation loaded on your app. Everyone else lines up at a rope inside the Hub.

The process is similar at DCA, although I don't recall where the split off point is. I'm sure someone will chime in.

I’m debating between a two queen regular room or a dvc studio. My question is: how is the murphy bed in the studio? My son is 6’1 and needs a good bed.

In DCA once you are at the central hub there is a EE line just to the right of Carthay Circle towards Avengers Campus/Cars Land. There is also a EE line down Hollywood Boulevard near Award Weiners for access to Avengers Campus. I can’t recall for Soarin’. The area line may be right there at the hub.

If you have your hotel reservation linked to your magicband+ do you still need to pull it up in the app?

To me, one of the biggest perks is the proximity to Trader Sam's
So you can be continuously sad as you walk by it and be reminded that it’s booked your whole trip and you can’t get reservations? ;)

I swear it’s probably my hardest to snag… well, maybe Napa Rose Chefs counter, but Sam’s isn’t far behind, lol

If you're staying on site, you can try to grab a reservation. As long as you're fairly close to TS's, you can put your name in. I am usually able to get in without much of a wait but if there are more than 2 people, it could be harder. Walk ups are also not too hard to score as long as it isn't a capacity crowd that day.

A few years ago when I was staying at DLH they let me call in an order to TS's for Tiki rums and I went and picked them up and brought them back to the room.

We've had good luck doing walk up there. Actually walking up to the host and asking to be put on the list sometimes works even when no availability is shown standby on the app. We were able to get an inside table twice on our last trip either by doing standby from the app or from just walking up and asking.

My wife and I stayed in a duo with a Murphy bed in February. Like your son, I’m 6’1” and found the bed to be very comfortable. Stayed for four nights without any issues.

That’s great to hear! We usually steer clear of anything with a fold out because of the length issue and typically a subpar mattress.

We are looking at a deluxe studio for the three of us. I’m wondering if you can request a particular theme for the room? I think there are two different themes for the deluxe studio rooms.

How is the DL hotel? I've never stayed, but reviews are pointing to boring, out-dated and noisy rooms. The most annoying is the customer service folks are saying. Is any of that true? TIA.

It is somewhat outdated, but it's an older hotel. Some of the outdated aspects are actually part of what makes it cool--larger rooms, big windows, LOTS of memorabilia and interesting concept art all over the hotel. There is a certain charm to DLH's outdated-ness as you can still feel the 1960s vibe. I do wish they'd kept the huge sliding glass doors but I suppose from a safety standpoint it made sense to change them over to fixed windows. But it was so cool to open the giant sliders, pull the couch over and watch the fireworks at night!

I don't find the rooms overly noisy, but I generally request upper level. I'm not sure whether or not that makes a difference--I just prefer the view. Any Disney hotel is likely somewhat noisy in the morning as families are getting ready to go into the parks. If you're not an early riser, that might affect you, but that would probably be true anywhere near DLR.

DLH is wonderful for a number of reasons, but probably mainly the grounds and amenities more than the actual rooms. I do love the cool Disney touches and decor in the guest rooms but the rooms are not what I'd call luxurious.

It never hurts to call and ask. I find the DLH CMs very helpful and I bet if you wanted a certain room they're try to get it for you. Which one do you like? I want Sleeping Beauty but feel like I should let my dd have her Tiana dream room lol.
