Walt Disney World restaurants' standard operating procedure is to add an automatic 18% tip to all restaurant bills for all parties of 6 or more. That is your tip, and you don't have to pay extra unless you want to leave a larger tip.

It doesn't matter whether or not your table is made up of two or more separate parties - if you are dining together you are a party of more than six. Everyone, even infants, counts toward the party size.

I'm a little curious how that works with the DDP and if you are paying cash for tips. We plan on using the kids' KTTW cards to pay for the meals, since they will not have charging privileges and then paying cash for the tip. I assume the ticket will just come back with a certain amount for tip and we can then leave that amount at the table? If so, it seems it would be pretty easy for families to get around the automatic 18% tip by just leaving less and then leaving.

I almost always tip 20%, rounded up to the next dollar, so I'm not necessarily concerned - just curious. Its going to take some majorly poor service for me to leave less than 18%, and I'll probably be talking to a manager to explain why. I just got to wondering how it will all work.

I assume it is added right to the bill, so you have to pay the cash portion right along with the rest.

Yes, the tip should be treated like any other part of the bill. If service is particularly poor, guests should speak to a manager and inform him/her that they want to leave a smaller tip - just as you can complain about a subpar food item and ask it to be taken off the bill.

I wouldn't doubt that they could find those families if they paid with a dining card, and charge their room for any unpaid portion of the bill, or send a bill to their home. The automatic tip is considered part of the bill unless one has a manger reduce it.

thanx but am still confused can any one tell me if tips included on ddp at crystal palace b'fast ?

Tips are not included on any meal. If you have a party of 6 or more they charge you an 18% gratuity that you are expected to pay at that time(unless of course you have a complaint and let the manager know but thats another issue all together). If you're part is of 5 or less then you should tp as you would at any restaurant.

Does the 18% apply only to table service restaurants? You aren't charged it at the food courts at Pop, are you? Trying to decide if we want to renew.

Correct. No gratuity is assessed where none is typically expected. So - "just" table service, buffets, bars (including Petal Bar)...

Does anybody know if the 18% gratuity added to the Tables in Wonderland card is calculated on the cost of the meal before tax? Just curious as my wife has always maintained that the tip is supposed to be calculated on the pre-tax total. I always have tipped based on the bottom line total of the bill.

I was wondering if anybody knows how Disney handles this on the TiW since it is automatically calculated for you. Also, I'm assuming the 18% would be included for dining at Beaches N' Cream, right?

Thx!

I think this has been asked and answered several times in the last 10-20 pages. But tips are on the amount pre tax.

What do you mean by "automatic tip"? Are you talking of groups of 6 or more or are you talking any size group?

The 18% automatic gratuity os for tables of 6 or more or ANY size group using hte TiW card

OK, thanks for clearing that up for me, for me just saying card mean my KTTW card, so I was confused. Thanks again!

When tipping do servers prefer to be left cash in place of leaving the tip on credit or room card?

I'll let any servers answer that directly, but I will say that if we pay by credit card we tip that way too. I'm not about to carry "tip cash" just because the servers may prefer it.

Ditto. I'm not providing a service to the servers, but rather the other way around, and so I wouldn't appreciate carrying a wallet around, unnecessarily, worrying about my pocket getting picked or dropping the wallet while riding a roller coaster, etc.

My last question about tipping was yanked, so I'll try it another way: Does anyone know if tips are shared among Disney restaurant workers, ie: buss people, hosts, ect?
