The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

@bama_ed It has been a bit of a logistics problem because the camp had not send out the full schedule yet. Only a tentative "what will your week may look like", so we had to take a guess on the timing of their flights. Thankfully we got a good price for both of them through American out of DCA.

J and I will have a good time and we have plans for the pool on our southbound stop at KOA Savanna. She is less of a rides kid yet loves the how its built stuff. So I am looking at what we can do the first day together to enjoy a park.

@team bradfield Arcadia NP is gorgeous! Hope you have a great time!

While that plate looks delicious, PtP .....

I guess he/you took the picture before he put all those leafy green healthy vegetables on that empty portion of the plate? :rolleyes1

Haha! ED

Both kiddos actually helped me. DD peeled potatoes and helped tend pots/pans on the stove. DS prepped the egg wash and mashed the potatoes. DS, three years younger than sister, actually cooks quite a bit more than her. He's the only 11 year old I know that usually meal preps all of his breakfasts for the week. Often DW and I wake up to the smell of his breakfast already cooked and consumed before anyone else is out of their rooms.

Scouts caught his interest with cooking and he only gets better the older he's getting.

That's great they are interested in cooking. Always a good skill to have for life.

I got home yesterday from the track in time to pick up DD from her trip to Boston. But I was out cold early last night and thankful I spent some of my Friday pre-packing for PR. So this evening is final packing day, we leave at 0400 for an 0600 flight through JFK to SJU. Everyone is getting pumped and excited!

I was listening to the start of the game against the Braves tonight on the Atlanta radio network. Some Bravo hit a solo HR in the 1st or 2nd inning.

You could snag a home run ball in your new seats, Jim.

The home run possibility is a plus with these seats. The big reasons I picked these are: closer to field, in the shade and under cover if it rains. Last years seats were in the sun ALL THE TIME and no cover at all. It was worse when it rained because the water would run off the scoreboard behind us and drench our backs. These seats weren't much more than the seats we had last year.

Our starting pitcher looked good in the first inning. He just had 2 bad pitches that resulted in home runs. After that, he lost his stride and it was all down hill. ATL is a good team, but none of our pitching was on the mark last night. Ended up 8:4 in favor of ATL.

Hey all. Just figured I would post this here, if you are near the total eclipse path for 2024 book now. Stuff is sold out. Hotels included. I got something putside the area I wanted. Unfortunately, Niagara falls is sold out. And the campgrounds dont open up early enough. So, book something if you want to see it. That is all. Public service announcement brought to you by: you snooze you loose.

Rolled the Aliner out into the driveway yesterday for start-of-the-season repairs and prep. We last used it back around Thanksgiving at the Fort.

It was covered in pollen so I had to give it a wash first. Two repair things to do was first a piece of wood fell from behind the sink down into the cabinet underneath and I had to get some longer screws to reattach it. Being under the sink, I had to empty the cabinet, get my head and shoulders inside, hold the board over my head in place with one hand, hold the screw in position with my other hand, and then of course turn the screwdriver with my third hand (no magnetic tip). Obviously I'm not THAT handy so I found something long to wedge up against the board to hold it in place and then I could get it done. It was awkward and tight but it's done.

Second repair was the old cheap original parts cabinet latches (to hold the doors shut) that had worked loose and got lost around the floor so the door has nothing to hold it shut. So a trip to Home Depot this morning had me getting a magnetic latch rather than a cheap plastic clasp like the OE ones.

Then it was give all the plates, pots, pans, silverware, and cups a good washing. Air up the tires and made up the bed then roll it back into the garage and then start stalking the weather forecast. We head out in a little over a week for the beach.

I considering pulling the cover off and de-winterizing this weekend. It is a little gutsy since the average last freeze around here is April 15th, but the long term forecast looks good well beyond the 15th. It did snow 2 years ago on April 20th.

I've been starting it and letting it (and the generator) run every few weeks, but I need to check house batteries, air up the tires, replace the batteries in the TPM sensors and check everything else out. Our first camping trip is in a couple of weeks. Heading to Indiana to meet up with Mrs. PA Hunter.

Hi all… I am currently “making the donuts” on a two week trip from CT back to CT via eastbound circumnavigation of the ole planet Earth. Position flight to CLT, N.C. To pick up passengers and then 9h30m flight from there to Athens, Greece where we rested for 24h. Yesterday was 5h30m flight from Athens to Pune, India (just a bit East/Southeast of Mumbai) where I currently am until Friday. From now until Saturday the 15th we will have 2 nights in Bangkok, 1 night in Ho Chi Minh City, 1 night in Taiwan, 3 nights in Shanghai, and one night in Chicago before arriving back in CT. Will post a few pictures. Here in Pune today it is 99 degrees, but not too bad humidity (compared to rainy season).

Notice the family of 3 on the moped/motor bike… wife in dress sidesaddle at the back… tons of mopeds and families of 3-4 on them very common… with the 4 member families you have one kid sitting in front of the driver additionally…

One thing about television in India… no shortage of soap operas… now, I really need to learn the rules of cricket so I can enjoy the sports channels here 🤔

From my hotel balcony in Greece I could “see” the Parthenon/Athens Acropolis (not the detail or really the structure, but that hill at back of photo is it…1FD25843-C9C6-4D30-9E0C-02F0F321FA0F.jpeg

Yeah… it’s just water, grass, trees… a lot like water, grass, and trees in the states. BUT, it’s AEGEAN SEA water and GREEK grass and trees…

I never realized, @4077, that the Acropolis in Athens was THAT MUCH HIGHER then the rest of the surrounding city. Yes, up on a plateau, sure, but that elevation is really dramatically different. ED

I admit I didn’t really know either, Unfortunately we don’t stay long in places to really explore… and that stop in Greece was literally a rest stop for us after the long flight… so was lucky to have that view to get a picture… as the flight crew on this kind of trip, we mostly we spend our time trying to get rested for the next flight while struggling with sleeping as the body gets flipped around by 12 hours over a few days before reversing just as we start to acclimate…
