The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

T-9 days to departure. We are slowly locating everything we need for the trip and putting them in a pile. DW and I found we need to do some shopping as our summer wear is looking rather worn after not really shopping for 3 years, ok well mostly me. Amazon, Target and Kohls boxes arriving daily as we work through gifts for teachers, gifts from Melissa to her class, and last vacation needs.

School is done for all in 4 days, though tomorrow for Lauren our HS sophomore. I just have to go with her next Wednesday to pick up her VA 180 Day temp license that is effective August 1 because she successfully got her 45 hours of driving time in.

When our youngest asked why I am already starting to pack, I explained that with everyone focused on the last days of school, I really don't want to spent Thursday packing and Friday frantically trying to pick up everything we couldn't find. Her response was classic Jessica "Oh that makes sense, I would have done it the other way." LOL, and we know she will.

I here you, I pack and get stuff done early also, you never know whats going to pop up and make you forget stuff last minute! We are stopping at 2 other places before Gettysburg. And I took out the inflatable kyacks, this time making sure to pull out the life vests. Yea, I forgot them last year on this trip, lol. Blew up the boats and couldn't use them. The kyack paddles needed repairs this year. Those button things that secures the paddle rusted out. If I waited untill the last minute we wouldn't get to use them again this trip. So, sometimes its good to pack early. Also, I will have time to check the kids clothing, she packs for herself, but forgets stuff like bathing suits, shorts, socks. If i am rushing, we end up at wallmart looking for clothing. Not how I want to spend my camp time.

Yeah, if we where taking the RV she actually helps with the pre trip and knows I start early since its more work. The fact that we are saying DVC this round she is like why start so early its just packing. Well we need find things that are split between the house and the RV.

I might just be a gluten for punishment but I did the Hotlanta Half marathon this morning and it lived up to its name. I was hoping to get proof of time for marathon weekend to get an early coral. I needed a 2:07 which was probably doable except for the fact that it was truly hotter than the blue blazes of the sun. I bonked at mile 10 and managed to finish. It was nit 2:07. However after all I have been through i was going to try. Though I still thought I could do it until I stepped on the balcony at 6 am and was like uff. This is not good. i took a nap after a shower. Now at mom’s for dinner. Will be at mom’s most of the week. Tomorrow we have a lot of things to do.

Wow Kris, that is impressive to run in such heat even if you did not get the time you where after. You finished and that alone sounded like a huge accomplishment.

T-Minus 5 days to departure. The excitement is building for the trip as all the check lists for end of school are marked done. The gathering and pre-packing has begun for me at least. Melissa has been collecting yet also has two full days without work to do all her packing. I have a 4 hour per day maintenance to run Tuesday through Thursday plus prep work each day. So it will take up most of my day focused on that. It will be good though since that means its done and not something I need to refocus on when I get back.

Over the weekend I had my sister over with my mother and met my nephew Bailey for the first time. He was born April 22nd premie at just over 5lbs and now up to 9lbs. It was great to see them and spend some time (or as much as you can with a newborn.) Now to get into the work week grove during the day and take care of the house chores and packing in the evenings. Not a lot to do thankfully, though enough to make it feel daunting.

Our deepest condolences Kris. No words can help the pain of loosing a parent. We are here when you need to vent. Hugs and healing.

Its not an easy time, just know that people are supportive. We are here, even if far away from you. Blessing and prayers. Stay strong.

Teresa and I offer our condolences for your family's loss Kris. Prayers for you and your family.

No adulting today unless you count getting groceries. We went to a close state park to go hiking. It was HOT! We did start late but it was 86 at 11 am. When we finished it was 94, or something like that. Does not have the elevation like North GA but 750 ft of gain and 5 miles. Did I mention it was HOT. Now Bert is adulting because he is making dinner. Asparagus pesto, with grilled asparagus and steaks on the grill. Yep asparagus on sale so eating lots of it.
