The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

This morning has been exceptionally quiet outside the house, after a propane tanker rolled over and was leaking. They evacuated the neighborhood for 1/4 mile. We are a 1/2 mile away so were not impacted. The recovery truck went by about 30 mins ago, but road still not open. Glad it was not worse than it was, truck spun on bridge that was iced over.

Incident was already over an hour old when I posted. It is now 4pm and the Fire Department just returned to the house. So they must be getting closer to finishing up. And it looks like they have reopened the road with the volume of traffic now passing in front of the house at 410pm.

A belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of my DisFort friends. The craziness of Covid Christmas, immediately followed by back surgery, had me disconnected for about 2 weeks. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday, and I look forward to hearing all of the stories of our camping adventures in 2021!

How is the recovery going?

Pretty well, all said - thanks. The surgery was just last Tuesday and I was back in the pulpit yesterday and in the office today. Some pain, a fair amount of fatigue, but doing pretty well. As much as anything, really just having to force myself to be patient for fuller healing before I try to tackle too much, too soon!

MAN, I could get used to this retired life. :cool2:

On a whim last night, I decided to look for camping opportunities in Florida for March (not the Fort). Two months out, wasn't that hopeful.

But being only 18 feet long, only needing 30 amp service, and being willing to pass on a sewer hookup requirement, I just scheduled 8 nights at Jetty Park again at Port Canaveral (we camped there in March 2019) and got a 30a/no sewer/concrete pad WITH SHADE for only $44 a night in mid-March at a campground that backs up to the Atlantic Ocean beach.

:cool1::boat::sail::beach:

Might do some more spring training baseball if fans/tickets are allowed, but if not hopefully there will be a rocket launch at Kennedy Space Center again, or do a KSC visit, check out a couple lighthouses on the central Florida coast, and at worst a run over to Disney Springs to eat at Raglan Road. There are good restaurants close by and I'm getting to learn the Canaveral/Cocoa Beach area because of past visits.

Plus I remember what @team bradfield said about retirement - don't push it. Maybe 400 miles a day towing which means an overnight stop each way from Alabama for me. This is the kind of fun in retirement they DON'T TELL you about. :sad2:

There is the Law Enforcement Museum located over that way also. We hoped to visit last trip, but just not enough time.

I'll put that on the list, Chris. I see it's just north in Titusville.

Spring training baseball down in Port St. Lucie and Jupiter (if they permit fans and tix on the primary/secondary market aren't outrageously priced) is on top of the list.

Second is to visit the 4 lighthouses on the Florida coast that we will be within reach of. Yes I will climb ALL the stairs in them that I am permitted to climb.

Sunrise on the beach overlooking the Atlantic is a priority most mornings (followed by some puzzle time and breakfast).

And it's like you say - never enough time to see/do all the things you want to.

Good for you! Enjoy. As much as I dread the days of our kids being away, I do look forward to the option of being able to escape the winter's cold for a bit each year. The retirement wanderings you're enjoying are WAY off for us, but we have just 6 more winters to go before we'd at least be able to grab a week away from work to find a brief respite in some better weather.

Retirement or a job that lets me spend more time on the road in summer when the kids are out would be great right now.

@bama_ed Sounds like you got a good plan going there. Take it easy, plus with a smaller trailer have some fun and get off the interstate and take the scenic routes.

started talking to the contractor again. One year after our first meeting on the bathroom remodel, we went to talk about the kitchen. Unfortunately I am expecting the kitchen to take longer. Still working through design changes then get the estimate. I am scared but am ready for phase II.

today we went for a short hike.

pretty quarry. Hike at least had some elevation gain. Serious training for the dismeet will start mid March.

I am very lucky Mallory likes to cuddle. She has always cuddled with me. It was great today because I was cold so she kept me warm.

and yes seeing Reba like that I want to cuddle her too.
