I remember on last week's email show (or two weeks ago?) someone had suggested maybe doing something for the 2010 marathon weekend and Pete said he would look into it. I also know some of you have mentioned running in it. Who all is planning on running any of the races that weekend (which ones?)? I am planning on running the 1/2 and haven't registered yet. I want to go ahead and register, but if the DIS is planning on something for that weekend (t-shirts, running for GKTW, etc.) do I have to mention that in my registration? Does anyone know when registration for the 1/2 fills up? I know that on the WISH board they talk about the marathon. Is this where all the DisUnplugged listeners are posting or should we start our own "Marathon" thread on the podcast boards? Sorry for all the questions, but all this marathon info is so new to me. This will be my first long distance run of any kind and I want to make sure I'm doing this all right! TIA!:wave2:

I read on the W.I.S.H. board that the 1/2 filled up on March 10th last year...BUT that they were offering a $15 discount to people who registered early last year, and this year they are not offering it, so it may take a little longer this year.

I will also be running my first half next January (actually walking). The WISH boards are a great place to get lots of support and information about running and about walking.
I think it would be great to have a thread here devoted to Dissers who plan on running or support runners. :cheer2:

I signed up for the 2010 half marathon already! I did it this year and loved it, and also did it in 2007. It is an awesome, awesome event. So much excitement, such great fans, such a fun weekend.

Yes, the runners usually post and coordinate events on the WISH board (there is a submenu called Events/Competition), but I don't know if people post elsewhere also.

The 1/2 marathon fills up quickly. Normally on the official Disney site they post warnings when it's 75% full, 85% full, etc., but I have no idea if they'll issue those warnings again this year.

I just listened to the podcast today in which the 2009 Marathon weekend was discussed. (Sadly I missed out on the DIS meets, I haven't had enough time to be active on the boards and be part of the planning.) Thank you for covering it in the podcast! And I encourage everyone to give a Disney race a try!!! I've done the Half twice, the Expedition Everest Challenge, the Tower of Terror 13k, and the Minnie Marathon (now the Princess), and had a blast every time.

Hello kpadalik, I'm looking into getting a charity group together for the 2010 marathon for GKTW. Disney has a lot of charity groups for the race, and I'm hoping we can get one of our own.

Last year (2008) the half marathon sold out in March. However, they did release some additional entries in December. In 2007, the half marathon sold out in May. With the economy the way it is - the half marathon may take a little longer to sell out. :confused3

If we could get an official charity group together, then we would have guaranteed entries to the race. We'll see.

Thanks Dave, I would much rather run for GKTW, so I will wait and see what happens here.

I spoke to my contacts at GKTW, and they are definitely interested in having a charity group. So I'll keep everyone posted.

I just signed up last week for the half marathon. I'm very excited to do this run. I run at least 4 days a week here at home and can't think of a better more beautiful place to run my first 1/2.

I'm trying to get some of my co-workers at the Apple store to fly down with me and take part in this event, we'll just have to see how many take me up on the offer. It's a no brainer right?:thumbsup2

Thanks Dave. I'm very interested in joining any group you put together. :thumbsup2

Thanks Dave for the info. Definitely keep me/us updated because I would love to be part of a "group" in the marathon. Then I won't feel oh so lonesome running it by myself!

I'm registered for the Goofy Challenge in 2010! I ran Goofy in 2008 and hav done the marathon twice before that too.

I love the Disney races -- there really isn't anything more run than running (or walking) up Main Street.

I also signed up for the 2010 Goofy Challenge. I'm not sure what got into me! I guess I'm a glutton for pain. I've run the Disney Marathon the past two years and have met some great people during these races. Disney really does do a great job with the weekend.

I am SOOOOO excited to run (actually walk! fast!) for GKTW!!!! I can't think of a better organization!

But, I am not sure if I should go ahead and sign up or wait?

My "practice" walk/jog will be the Tower of Terror 13K!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Maybe people could hold off a little bit on registering. Usually you know for a day or so once registration for the half marathon reaches 90-95% capacity. It won't close out immediately. The full marathon takes a lot longer to reach capacity.

Do you think we would be able to walk for GKTW for the HALF, too? Or just the full? There is no way I could do the full!

Definitely, I'm hoping we can get entries for the 5k, half-marathon, full marathon, and maybe Goofy too. That way we can include anyone that wants to participate.

I registered once I saw that the Goofy hit 65% capacity (there is no such indicator for the half yet, so those of you on the fence probably still have a little time). I definitely am looking to run for Team DIS/GKTW.

Woo Hoo!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I can't even tell you how excited I am!!!!!!!!
