Hey everybody,
just stopping by to say THANKS for the thoughts and prayers (and especially to Rj and Bets for trying to keep track of me). Nearest I can tell the fires came within a mile, but we of course can't go driving into the area for awhile. Over 500,000 people were evacuated at a cost of about $1,000,000,000 (that's billion with a "b"). New fires are still breaking out but I'm pretty sure we are safe.

If the pictures come thru, you may be able to see our pool and fountain. They are normally clear water and sandy-colored rocks (just in the fountain).

Ash is everywhere but we are advised to stay inside for the next 2 or 3 days as all smoke that blew over the ocean now blows back over us. I gotta tell ya', there is nothing like a 4 am phone call from the police department telling you to prepare to leave your home.

So thanks again for your thoughts. We were lucky. 1,200 other families weren't so fortunate. If anyone wants to help clean up, just bring a big broom. I've got beds and some good recipes from RJ to keep you fed.

Yay! You are VERY lucky & we're so glad you're back safe & sound! Been sneaking peeks at the internet at work trying to see what's going on out there! So you've got extra beds & all I'd need to bring is a big broom 'eh? I got one of them somewhere...Hummm.... (I can wash windows! But I think I would skip a dip in the pool! LOL!) Seriously, I'm glad you're OK & if we were a tad closer I'd be right over to help clean up! I had a roommate once that almost burned the house down - she left something on the stove while she took a shower & nobody else was home! The whole house filled up with smoke & she opened the windows to let the smoke out - neighbors from 2 blocks away called the fire dept.! It was then that I learned what "smoke damage" was! I'm really sorry you have so much ahead of you - I hope the smoke didn't get INSIDE the house too! I am thankful you're OK - I hope you don't find too many people you know who were affected any worse...that would be hard too.

I finally got into the website tonite....it wouldn't let me in the other day. Anyway, I am clueless so I guess I haven't been paying attention! Best guess I have is that you are E. Beyond that...I got nuthin' - well, unless I'm A?! Can't wait to see the answers!

Thanks for the good wishes all. Maybe this is a better way to see how much soot came our way. I'll get Timmy right on the clean-up, Beano. I'm sure he'll be happy to get out there and scrub away.

I am so very glad that you all are okay. As a fellow pool owner I know how difficult that can be to clean. Shock the heck out of that pool and vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. GOOD LUCK!

I hope that you are able to get everything back in order soon, and hope the fires stay away and that they get them contained.

We will be in Disney 2/20-2/24. On the 25th we will be going to San Diego and flying home. One day, I think Saturday(23rd), we are going to visit Hollywood around midday though.

OK, I actually pulled a real LOL on this one today:

Two blonds were working for the city public works department. One would dig a hole and the other would follow behind her and fill the hole in. They worked up one side of the street, then down the other, then moved on to the next street, working furiously all day without rest, one girl digging a hole, the other girl filling it in again.

An onlooker was amazed at their hard work, but couldn't understand what they were doing. So he asked the hole digger, "I'm impressed by the effort you two are putting in to your work, but I don't get it -- why do you do that; you dig a hole, only to have your partner follow behind and fill it up again?"

The hole digger wiped her brow and sighed, "Well, I suppose it probably looks odd because we're normally a three-person team. But today the girl who plants the trees called in sick."
