Just talked to Cheri on the phone...


The house still stands! She said the pool and fountain look like a black swamp, but other than that all is ok for now. If the winds do not pick up or change direction, she thinks it'll be fine. Smoke is still really bad and making it hard to breathe. Hopefully, the winds will cooperate (for everyone affected) and maybe the firemen will be able to get a handle on the fires.

YAY!! That is really good news.

I have been watching all fire news and checking out the fire maps but nothing too specific to Cheri's area.

Having lived in several parts of San Diego myself, I cannot imagine the scope of the devastation. Makes me very sad. I am pretty sure the Dr. I used to work for lost his house that overlooks Lake Hodges in Escondido. My friend in Santee, as of now, has not evacuated. I heard the entire town of Ramona, population 36,000 or so was a complete loss. The entire town. Kinda puts your life in perspective huh?

I continue to pray for everyone hoping for the best there. My brother in law is no doubt down there with Cal Fire trying to help get a handle on these fires. God watch over all of them...

YAY!! Did they go home or did she just do a drive-by? They say the winds should die down a bit soon.......I sure hope so anyway! Thanks for the update!

That is just the kind of friend I am. Going to get some wine this weekend for my friends Oph and TZM! One apparently I left out of their previous shipment. What was I thinking?

It's so horrible to think about.

Disneyland did have the 4th night free promotion for the fall. I believe its still going on, but avaiblility is very limited at this point.

Beginning next year the packages are coming with the hopper pass promo of 5 days for the price of 3, 6 days for the price of 4, or 7 days for the price of 5.

I know what you mean. I felt like that during Katrina...felt like I needed to do something besides make a donation - so I called the Red Cross & Salvation Army down there. They said they really needed lice shampoo, tylenol, asprin, bandaids & toothbrushes / toothpaste for the shelters! So I got their address & I went out to Walmart & went shopping for big bottles of these things & I mailed off boxes of supplies to them. Then I went thru our closets & mailed towels & clothes etc. The mailing thing was costly but I just felt like I had to send stuff directly to them...I don't know. I just felt this compulsion to DO something besides watch the news on TV....

Hi Ronnie, Hope you and the family are all safe. We have friends leave for LA on Halloween so have seen alot of the footage on the news, hope you aren't anywhere near the fires.

Annie - funny you should mention that. The local news just listed the (800) for the Red Cross donation hotline for items, etc. I hope to get something going today. May talk to the school to get involved but just not sure of the logistics of carrying out a large scale delivery. I need a trucking company. And a forklift. A cargo plane would be really handy.

Hey everybody,
just stopping by to say THANKS for the thoughts and prayers (and especially to Rj and Bets for trying to keep track of me). Nearest I can tell the fires came within a mile, but we of course can't go driving into the area for awhile. Over 500,000 people were evacuated at a cost of about $1,000,000,000 (that's billion with a "b"). New fires are still breaking out but I'm pretty sure we are safe.

If the pictures come thru, you may be able to see our pool and fountain. They are normally clear water and sandy-colored rocks (just in the fountain).

Ash is everywhere but we are advised to stay inside for the next 2 or 3 days as all smoke that blew over the ocean now blows back over us. I gotta tell ya', there is nothing like a 4 am phone call from the police department telling you to prepare to leave your home.

So thanks again for your thoughts. We were lucky. 1,200 other families weren't so fortunate. If anyone wants to help clean up, just bring a big broom. I've got beds and some good recipes from RJ to keep you fed.
