DD5 had her first soccer "game" today. All kids from the same team playing against each other. There are at least 18 kids from 4 to 6 years old on the team. The coach apologized to me the other day at practice about the number of kids on the team and said that there were lots of kids that signed up, but no one signed up to be a head coach.

I think that he was hinting, but everything I know about soccer, I've learned in the past three weeks of watching their practice. It is fun to watch them try to herd cats on the soccer field though.

Go ahead and do it. At this age, they are too young to learn anything strategic about soccer. And, 9 v 9 is way to many on a field. I don't of any U6 leagues that use goalies and national does nit recommend goalies for U8. So, make sure every kid has a ball and let them dribble around cones and shoot on the goal. When it comes to the game, you can move to 2 fields of 4 v 5 and heard 1/2 of them. You have been granted the power from the DisDad's club.

:scared1: 18 kids. Wow. Even with two fields you are looking at 9 per field (if they all show up) and around here the U6 teams play 3v3. With all those players it would be hard to make sure all players get at least 50% game time.

I agree with Norm. At this age most of the players are just interested in snacks :lmao: I first tried coaching this past spring as an assistant coach. I got the chance to take half the kids during practice and learn different techniques from the real coach. Seriously, if you have the time, try it out. Sounds like this coach really needs help.:thumbsup2

Congrats on the win! Sounds like you've got some skilled players there! :thumbsup2 Just finished my "F" certification today and looking forward to our first practice on Monday. Girls under 10 should be fun to coach! :woohoo: i hope :rolleyes1

:lmao: 10 year old girls????? easy to coach????? :lmao: youll see.:lmao: you poor poor man, you have no idea what the next 8 years of your life is going to like.:lmao:

I have my D license (not sure they are called the same in different states) but yes, coaching this group is fun. I really enjoyed coaching U11G a few seasons ago. Most of that group knew the positions and basic footwork, so I was able to teach some strategy. I inherited one this year that is biggest and fastest on the team. Problem is that NO one has tried to coach her and has just let her natural athleticism work. She is still toe kicking the ball. But, she is a good kid and very coach able and my work for the season.

Hello Guys. Things come and things go. People say things one day, then change their outlook another. Life can be so fickle at times can't it? I just wanted to share, and once gain ask for some pixie dust and prayer. I was "invited" on to a conference call yesterday afternoon, and the promises that were made just about 3 or maybe 4 weeks ago now have vanished. I was basically given two options. I could be done effective Monday and receive a severance package, OR, I could continue to work at a reduced salary for 30 days, and then be done and receive no severance package. Hmmm. I selected the severance package option. That'll provide income and health benefits for us through the end of the year whereas the other option, well...yeah.

So, I've now kicked my search into hyper drive. I went in this morning and cleared out my office so that I wouldn't have to deal with that next week. What a great way to start the weekend. But - I'm looking at it as positively as I can, and just pray it will work out decently in the end. It did make my DW feel a little  last night, but it's not like it was totally unexpected. I am now #7 this year. I just wonder how many more will get their notice before the year is finished. :confused3 Oh well, it isn't truly my concern any more. Nearly 11 years came screeching to a halt in one short half hour (and about 3 this morning as I brought everything home).

Sorry to hear that, but things like this always seem to happen for a reason. I am sure you will make a change for the better and look back on it as a good thing. My last layoff, I found out the day before DW was scheduled for her C-Section to bring DD into the world that I would be laid off. Needless to say, I did not tell her until over a week later (I had until the end of the year before the actual layoff occurred.) It ended up working out great because I went from being equipment maintenance in the semiconductor industry into IT in the healthcare industry. Now I do something I love (working with computers) and the company I am with is in a great position with all the new electronic integration of medical records and Medical Home initiatives.

I am sure you will end up in a better 'place' once this is all said and done.

anyone have an iphone?????? if you do, do you like it and or have any problems with it???? we were at the mall tonight, we went into the verizon store and in a few months tammys and i contracts are up. so i thought id get into the 21st century. i was playing around with it and i think i could attempt it. briana has a droid but the key pad is so small i can even see the numbers.:lmao:

We are on Verizon and I have the original Motorola Droid (with a slide-out physical keyboard.) My 2-year renewal will be in November and I was contemplating similar thoughts. The new Droid Bionic just came out and it looks awesome. But after having my iPad 2 for several months, that helped me (easily) make up my mind to wait for the iPhone 5. I was an apple 'hater' until getting my iPad 2 (got it to be familiar with the iOS to assist doctors with their iPads at work.) I am now a proud member of The Dark Side.

Regarding the physical keyboard issue - I rarely use it on my current Droid after getting Swype installed. So that is really not a big deal for me. And the camera in my Droid is horrible! The iPhone camera (at least in the iPhone 4) is 1000 times better.

And I am getting hooked on some iOS only apps, thanks to my iPad (including InstaGram.) When you also factor in that most of the apps I download are Universal (you can use on an iPad, iPhone, and/or iPod without having to purchase it separately for each device), that really puts it over the top.

I would recommend you wait for the iPhone 5 to be released (looks like next month.) Then you can get the new iPhone 5, or the iPhone 4 will be discounted even more so you can get one cheap.

Happy Birthday CHRIS!

For all those affected by the actions in New York, Washington, and Shanksville; thoughts and prayers are with the families, victims, and heroes.

I am very excited about our trip in less than 72hrs, but am surprised how much the events of this day 10 yrs ago are on my mind. I have skirted the specifics of that day for my kids, but I figure they are going to see some images today that I will have to explain.

Getting caught up.

Christopher, sorry to hear the news. Hopefully this will open a better door for you.

Chris, happy birthday. Have a good one.

I am very excited about our trip in less than 72hrs, but am surprised how much the events of this day 10 yrs ago are on my mind. I have skirted the specifics of that day for my kids, but I figure they are going to see some images today that I will have to explain.

Have fun on the trip. I'm jealous.

9-11 is also on my mind. I was living in NY at the time. Less than a month before that tragic day, I took my daughter to the South Tower’s observatory. It was a perfect day, sunny, mild temps and a vista that was almost endless. I pointed to my office and she said, “I feel like I can almost touch it.” She was seven.

She was in school that day and they were showing the events as they unfolded on the classroom TVs. The concern on her face was so noticeable, that the teacher asked her what was wrong. “My daddy works near the Trade Center.” I was in Washington on 9/11 Co-ordinating biggest donor event for the organization I worked for (a story in itself) and she was relieved when we were finally able to talk later that afternoon.

She morned the loss of the people who died but she also morned the loss of the Towers themselves. Her first question to me after finding out I was fine was, Will they rebuild them?” I told her confidently that yes they will. We vowed to go back to the top when it was finished. Unfortunately due to political squabbling, greed and incompetence; construction has yet to be finished. Soon though.

Some picks from the summer just before 9/11..

Sorry to go on but this cathartic.

My wife and I were just talking about the same thing. My DD has always been worried about fires, but has especially worried about things since the tornado came through earlier this summer.

Happy Birthday Doc!!!!

It's not really fair to discount an iPhone because of your experience with other touch screens. I encourage you to spend some time playing with an iPhone in an Apple store or AT&T store. Screen quality is one of the areas where the iPhone really stands out.
Well, DW had the Chocolate Touch for about a month before I got mine. I had played with hers enough that I felt confident enough in the touchscreen that I decided to get one.

That said, I do like the iPhone screen. I'm just a little hesitant to go with something that is "touchscreen only" again. Honestly, I'd probably go for the G'zone Commando before the iPhone just because is it supposed to be more durable. Phones I use definitely need to be able to handle the elements.

 a diesel fuel bath! that would ruin your day real fast. did you have insurance on it?
Actually, that phone was a Samsung Alias and it still worked... somewhat.:lmao: I was eligible for the new every 2 upgrade, but I liked that phone and didn't see the need to replace it yet. After its bath I finally decided to upgrade.:rotfl2:

Sorry to go on but this cathartic.
Thanks for sharing. It's a day that means so much to so many. It really is interesting to hear about it from someone else's experiences.

great pics, I have never seen images from inside the building. I was sitting at home, and my wife was in the garage leaving for work when she started honking the horn, she ran back into the house and we turned on the tv just as the camera panned up to see the plane strike the second tower.

Just got back from working at my mom's house. Was hoping to get it all cleaned out today so we can put it up for sale this week. Didn't quite happen, but one more weekend of hard work ought to do it. I will be so grateful when all this is over with. :crazy2:

On a side note, anybody want an upright piano? Yours free, you just gotta come get it!

Back from soccer. 8-0 shut out. Other team managed 2 shots on goal in the first half and none in the 2nd half. I even sat my stronger players at half time. Next week will be the true test. We play a really talented team that's been together a few seasons with a strong coach.

Then, I look at the NFL scores and think I entered a parallel universe. Bills scored 41. Looks like my pick em league starts week 1 in the crapper.

Just got done booking a quick Kings Dominion , Busch Gardens Trip for Oct 1st & 2nd. Even booked the room in a Comfort Suites (it's almost like staying in The Grand Floridian:banana:)
