Figures....now that the kids are hard asleep, people have decided to do fireworks tonight...Living in an apartment building has a lot of downsides, but one of the perks is during the two major firework events up here, Victoria Day Weekend and Canada Day, you can sit on the balcony, or just look out the windows and see a few miles of residential neighborhoods, all doing fireworks, free shows for the kids! Canada Day is better, as the city holds a major display in the park facing the building, so you get a quality (no Disney mind you), display, AND the after show of people trying to get out of the parking lots/small roads!
:thumbsup2

Pirates of Carribean 4 rocks. It was over 2 hours long, but worth it. There were some really intense scenes in this one that my children were scared. We saw the others on DVD, so it may have just been in the cinema. My only complaint would be there is not as much action on the pirate ships as there was in the other movies. Music still rocks. Storyline is still excellent. Captain Jack Sparrow is still Captain Jack Sparrow. Angelica is hot. And, there are 3 story lines for #5. Enjoy the music and wait until the end of the credits for a scene.

Very cool....

and the 3D effects were.........? :3dglasses

Hi guys,

After many years on the boards i have discovered this club!
Better late than never right?

I found you actually via your podcast.

I will start by declaring my total fascination with all things Disney.

In our family I am chief planner, DW is the grounded one!

DD5 is my little princess and is a tink and general princesses superfan.

We are based in London, UK

We are DVC members and spend a minimum of three weeks per year at WDW and have been going every year for many years as a couple and then as a family.

We are heading to the boardwalk for three weeks at the beginning of august and we are buzzing with excitement.

I caution all readers that DW and I share this ID so I do not have gender issues sometimes on other threads it may be DW!!!!

Well that's me!

Great advertising!

36?? Hwy 341......McDonalds is East toward Brunswick across the street from Pizza Hut:lmao::lmao:

Yeah, it's OK...the one at 29 is Ok too..:lmao::lmao:

Depending on what time you came through Jacksonville, I may have passed you at 900 mph....loong day today.

Sorry you had a long day. Then again, we drove from WDW to Northern VA, although at considerably less than 900mph. Even in a minivan.

I did! Like any good Disdad I would expect nothing less.

DW: Do you know what he looks like?
Me: He's wearing a DisDads shirt.
DW: You have SHIRTS?!?!
Me: Yeah, missed my window of opportunity on that one...

Except, of course, as there were not pictures, this meeting did not happen. Even if David and his family are wonderful people, and my daughters were bad influences for his. :sad2:

Here’s how that same situation came to pass in our state.

1 – State Legislature passes mandate that school year had to be 180 days (no exceptions)

2 - State Legislature later passes law mandating standardized testing and then farther determined within that law the exact time frame in which said testing must be administered (no exceptions)

3 – Local School Districts adapted their calendars to best meet both mandates while still beginning testing on the last week of school. The result was that school year started in early August and ended in mid May (which was useful from a traveling perspective)

4 – Wealthy business people in the three richest counties who use teenage labor to service the tourist trade demanded that the Legislature force the all schools to alter their calendars comply with business requirements.

5 - State Legislature begins a campaign to “Save Our Family Summer” and ultimately passes mandate that school years could not start prior to a specific date in late August (no exceptions). This is hailed as a victory of “Family Values” (which is a bold faced, unforgivable lie; it was done for money and in appeasement of power; period).

6 – Local Schools are now hemmed in by the three laws and are forced to continue classes for nearly three weeks after the testing has been completed. The laws effectively shorten the school year (from a stand point of the time the teachers are allowed to actually teach prior to testing, while still compelling the schools to continue classes for some time beyond that point).

In NC there are a certain number of hours attached to the 180 days as well, so our law reads 180 days AND 1000 hours, or something of the like. And we're on the mandatory August 25 start day and June 10 end day too. That is because former rep Marc Basnight down in Dare county wasn't making enough money at his restaurant so he changed the school calendar to get more "tourism dollars" (read: money for his business) for his part of the state. I guess that you can do things like that if you are the Pro Tem.

Big day at the home today... DD 3 got potty trained; my DW had a "potty party" for her. Long story short; I don't expect to get as excited for a bowel movement again until I'm at least 85 years old...

:lmao:

What a day. Work 4 hours... then go play in a Florida best ball golf tournament! :cool1: Best of all... it's free :banana::banana:

:thumbsup2 <---------- Thumb

When we were married almost 11 years ago and went for marriage license, the clerk asked us if were cousins. I don't know if that's KY law or if the clerk was having some fun with us.

Just spit my grapefruit juice on that one. :lmao:

I'm thinking about trading one of my trucks in for a car that gets good mileage for driving to work and just driving around. In the past, I've always been one that thinks anything smaller than a V8 is more of a wind up toy than an actual vehicle:rolleyes1. I want something with 4 doors that can get 30+. Really like the Jetta, but want to explore all options. Anybody drive anything that they really like that I might want to look at?

When DW and I first got married, we bought a Honda Civic. We kept that car for 11 years. Great vehicle, but didn't have quite the pop that I would have liked. However, the gas mileage was great and it was very reliable. We have a Honda Accord now, and we get between 25 and 33 MPG, depending on highway or city.

Anyone going to see the new Pirates movie tonight? I'd love to, but I have a poorly timed Scout movie night tonight.

Tomorrow, spending the day at Baloo and OLWSL Training for scouts, may have to let the DW take the kids without me :sad2:

We went!!! Pretty good movie. Depp is just great as CJS.

Someone sent this to me from Facebook.

A good way to mess with people on the supposed "Judgement Day" tomorrow;

Leave shoes with dry ice in them around town;

Been away for the past couple of days. Glad things have slowed down a little as I only have about 23 pages to go through instead of 50. Saw Pirates last night, and I agree with a couple of previous folks in that there are several story lines for another movie. Depp is great; to me, his sarcastic one liners are the highlight of the movie. Gonna try to get some things done at work this weekend as the end of the school year is rapidly approaching and I need to make sure that I keep in line with all of the deadlines that we seem to have. Hope that everyone has a great weekend.
